I have that same 2014 Charger (minus the wheels). I bought it off eBay for $2500 with a bent pushrod and the valve cover off. Dealer quoted needing a new engine and rear axle seals for $11k. It was the police chiefs car out of a small town. Guy babied the car, even installed carpet in it paying out of his own pocket. I though he was going to cry when I hauled it away. Anywhooo, I went through it. New cam/lifters, axle seals, a couple front end parts and brake pads. $1k in parts and its perfect now. $8k for that car with a bad cam 🤣
BW they did. Nobody wanted to do just cam and lifters. Plus it’s a terrible market right now to have any repairs done. Prices are super inflated compared to a few years ago.

We just had a local auction today and the pricing was unreal, CVPI's are selling for $4,000 at the auction... right now the auction is like another car dealership but with no warranty, and no one to complain to if the car is broken. We just helped a family friend get a low mileage gov't owned Ford Escape from auction... it was a 2008 with like 86K miles... it was won for the market price of $5,750... right now is just a hard time with inflation, crazy pricing on everything, and somehow everyone just keeps buying. When the market corrects, that's going to be messy. Great job on the video as always!

Not only is there massive inflation, coronavirus pricing, but there's ALSO this weird 80s-90s fad craze going on right now, with these "Radwood" shows and what not. Cars that were once common for $1000 are now selling for 10x or 20x that amount. It's absolutely bonkers.
Its shocking how these "modern" government vehicles have SO MANY common issues with engines and transmissions. Crown Vics didn't have it NEARLY as bad!
Crown Vics never had AFM. Plus that platform was around FOREVER. The earlier ones were not that great. I remember the 2002 and down popping transmissions like crazy.

Those PPV Caprices are truly a rare find. I am surprised that more agencies did not buy them during the 6 model years they were built. I like the 2015 to 2019 Tahoe police vehicles, but that AFM crap is a pain to deal with.
GM had a contract with Holden to only sell ~16k Caprices and 12k SSs. It also coincided with agencies going to the Tahoe and Explorer for more space. Then GM killed Holden in 2017 so that was the end of that. My town in Delaware bought some Caprices early on but then as they aged out they replaced them with Tahoes and a few Explorers.
Cool stuff there. I'm in California so 5 bucks a gallon is a deal here. LOL It's 6.50 plus. I have an 06 Crown Vic PI w/ 231k on it. They're not nearly as good as the Charger's and Caprice's but that little 4.6 goes forever. Sadly it's gonna sit for a while as I'm driving my 2015 Golf TDI. 50 MPG baby!

Always nice when you take us along on your auction trips. I agree that DE State Police blue is a fantastic color. That Caprice was probably run hard as a highway car. I've never seen a DSP Caprice not on or near a highway. It would explain why the lights are so hazed. On the Expedition, cloth front/vinyl rear/console delete was a fleet option. This was probably a police special use vehicle. Dark gray is a low-profile police color, not so much fire service. It looked pretty clean though, would make a good family hauler if gas wasn't crazy expensive. The rest of the cars looked reasonable but I get not wanting to take a chance on them.

Yeah, I still have the Lincoln. I've gotten a few good offers for it too but I can't seem to let it go. It's literally the nicest driving and riding car I've even had and I love it.
Crazy cars in Aus too. My dad wrote off his 17 camry that he bought 3 or so years ago for 17k with 70 something thousand ks on the clock. When he was paid out the car had over 300 000 ks and all beat up. They paid him out 27k. Crazy! Problem is you now have to buy into this crazy market, and it's just not worth it. He's taken mum's car and she is driving one of mine.
Good greif.. Those prices are INSANE... I bought my 14 Explorer PPV from a used car dealer last year.. The trans was rebuilt prior to me buying it, yet it still seemed off.. I had a 30 day warranty on it and a 2 year warranty on the transmission through the company that rebuilt it.. So back to them it went.. Turned out to be the torque converter, my guess is they didn't replace it during the rebuild.. It's been going strong ever since.. I took a loan out from my bank and it was 14.000.. The original price the dealer wanted was 15.000

It's a requirement to swap out the stock oil pump for a hellcat oil pump on the 5.7 as you'll gain an extra 20ish psi. Your cams and lifters will greatly thank you for it. In most cases, a newer used engine would cost just as much vs a cam and lifter job. A lot of people don't understand the pursuit market value right now. They want the price to be on the crown vic level. 🤣🤣🤣

Accoring to BABVVO and TEBBVO laws, soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!
Problem with police cars are a lot of idle time that puts a lot of wear on the engine and oil changes not done frequently enough. Thankfully you didn't touch the Focus, they are totally worthless and dangerous with their garbage DCT's. I suspect that as a 'public' auction, most of these vehicles were bought by individuals to fix up for their use, not for resale.

Prices are still kinda high, but they say July car sales stall because everyone spends money on vacations….
Best low price is in January because people are broke from Christmas and rent in my opinion but in reality, cold weather does Not keep people away...

When did transmission solenoids get to be so expensive?
Our states Police department are using hybrid Camry's in Brisbane Australia. They sell with about 100,000klm on them.

Na, you just turn it off with software. Transmissions are toilets and are VERY expensive to rebuild.

They aren’t worth it. Have a lot of engine problems due to the displacement system. Also a lot of suspension issues and issues with the AC

The auctioneer is doing everyone dirty by not disclosing the obvious "mechanical issues" that are sometimes even noted on the windshield.

I don't know why anyone thinks used car prices are dropping? Even beaters are expensive now. That wasn't the case a year ago.
