The fun thing about Qrow's bad luck is that it happened in the fight with Tyrian too. Tyrian fell through the bad beam and right after Qrow told ruby to stay back, that plank nearly fell on her. Back in volume 3 too. As he left the bar and the bartender knocked the glass over.

That's very cool that they had little details like that throughout the series. 😊

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

You also see examples of his bad luck during that talk by the campfire with RNJR. After he left, a log fell off the fire. He had been indirectly making contact with the wood just prior.
Also, his bad luck might have been why Ruby was not able to shoot and hit a stationary Tyrian during the fight with Qrow. He was too close to Qrow's influence.
Also, Qrow trailing RJRN for protection = bad luck for Grimm.
Then there is Tyrian being able to block or dodge all strikes from Qrow's (and anyone else's) weapon. But he could not block a direct punch or kick from Qrow.
Hmm, bad luck on Qrow that Ruby didn't listen to him and stay out of the fight? (That's why we tried twice to tell her to stay back.)
Another possible occurrence. Raven buying Qrow a bottom shelf drink. Only to have the waitress up him to a top shelf Drink.
Bad luck on Raven if she got charged for the upgrade. Or bad luck on the establishment if Raven skipped out on the tab.
In that fight with Winter, Bad timing (luck) that Ironwood showed up when he did to stop a charge by Winter.
Qrow may not be able to control his semblance, but he knows how to leverage it. Making him very formidable opponent to enemies. Only family and friends would tend to screw him up.

On Schnee summons: They can only summon foes that pushed their limits.

17:45 remember in Volume 3 when Winter told her to remember her greatest foes when summoning. Then remember her fight in her trailer when she got her scar. The tiny sword in front of the snail, the arm in the fight against the Paladin when she saved Velvet, the misdirect when she accidentally summoned a boarbatusk at the gala, and the final reveal when the knight kneels before her. Love the set-up.

Shoulder wounds aren't necessarily non-fatal. There's the subclavian arteries and the brachial plexus nerve clusters. The majority of people who take penetrating injuries to their shoulders need multiple surgeries to repair their blood vessels and there can be nerve damage leading to loss of movement in their arms. And a small percentage of people who were shot in the shoulder have even lost their lives to the injury.

I can understand Blake's moment of hesitation when versing Illia. For Blake this is a different yet somewhat familiar situation, she pursuing a member of the white fang and engaging in combat and a friend is there to help her. Its very similar in dynamic to her fight with Adam at the fall of beacon. So her hesitation stems from needing to make sure her friend is ok because of that memory, because the last time she went against a member of the white fang and a friend got involved it didn’t end well

I always wonder what Qrow is remembering in his delirium. "Tai...she's not coming." Is he talking about Raven, or Summer?
Someone already pointed out that the Schnees can only summon foes that especially challenged them. But the eagle is a good idea, maybe one of Weiss and Winter's ancestors was able to swoop around on a Nevermore. (What about if your special foe was a person? Oof, that's a painful image, summoning the simulacrum of someone you loved for battle while the real person ages and dies. )

Weiss (and well, any Schnee really, since their semblance is genetic) can only summon foes they've defeated. So far, we've seen Wiess personally beat a Boarbatusk, the knight from her trailer (which was the same kind of possession grimm we saw in the first episode of this volume), dozens of beowolves and presumably others as well. I say presumably, because there's things later on that muddy the waters a bit with regards to how and what she can summon, whether she personally needs to be the one who kills it, or if it just needs to be an important step that pushes her past her limits.
But she can't just summon anything she knows or has seen, generally it has to be something she's defeated, and maybe also something that was hard to beat.

Weiss is amazing isnt she?!!! The reason she doesn't summon an eagle is because she can't, her summoning is like a muscle. It gets stronger the more you work it, and only recently has she be able to use it. That knight is the first "full" summon she's been able to do under her control, its linked to her concentration. So making an eagle will require more practice, you don't want it disappearing mid-flight 😧

*Rises up again in Whitley protection squad*
He may have been rude in it, but he DID offer to smuggle in something for Weiss, since she's stuck in her room and can't get anything for herself like this. And AGAIN he was raised by that snake with a clip-on tie under constant surveillance, esp after Weiss left for Beacon.
On summons: Schnees can only summon grimm that they have fought and that have pushed their limits, like Weiss' trailer fight with the Arma Gigas. They will last for as long as needed, but drain aura quickly, so overreliance on them can be a crutch.
To jump on the future potential question- Jacques doesn't have any fighting abilities, he's just a businessman. The schneeblings got their semblance from their mom. And no, it's not exclusive to women, since they would've gotten it from their grandfather. It's just a matter of unlocking it, which Whit is yet to do

Yang never relied on her semblance. It wasn't a semblance to be relied upon. It wasn't anything like a 'temper tantrum' either. Yang's semblance is an augmentation type: she gets hit, she gets stronger. That's all. It's a passive semblance, like Qrows, not an activateable one like Ruby's. Yang was a highly trained, highly talented, martial artist. Her semblance augments her fighting style naturally, she's not using her semblance to fight like Ruby, Blake or Weiss. So Tai's 'lesson' was completely pointless and should have been given to Ruby.

The way the summoning works as explained by Weiss' sister Winter in volume 3 is that they can summon the enemies they've defeated that pushed them to become stronger. The Boar she summoned at the party was the one from Professor Port's class in volume 1 when she accepted Ruby as the team leader, and the knight is the one from her trailer. She's limited to these two at this time.
