Dan, i went to your elk shape camp in Arizona. I'm the dude that shot Couse Deer at 75 yards with a Sevr titanium 2.0. The arrow is flying at 306 fps and got a double lung pass through. Further more i could not find my arrow afterwards. They are well made sharp broadheads. Probably the only mechanical i would trust to have a pass through at that distance. They fly very true out to 100 with fieldpoints on a fixed broadhead tuned bow. I keep 3 iron will single bevels left and 2 sevr 2.0 on my hunting quiver. 50 and in single bevel. 60 and out the sevr because i feel they are more forgiving if i don't execute a perfect release. Thanks for the content.
Great grouping with one flyer!! Not many people can shoot a 100 yd group like that!! I dare say 1% of archers.. So all your tinkering has paid off and you figured out what works. I like that you had a theory and ran a test . So no one can refute your results it's " Evidence Based " That's what it's called in the field of Medicine Nice Job ! Thanks for sharing
That group at a 100 yards was absolutely ridiculous! Great shooting! Shout out from Alberta, Canada. I hope you guys have an amazing bear hunt here in Canada.
A couple Tinkering Tips Dan on your arrow build. 1) On the RIP TKO's I have found that the "spine alignment" is not necessarily dead on so I either have to nock tune to confirm or what I find is 99% accurate is locating the "first dynamic bend of your arrow" with the Firenock PAPS. 2) Dry fit that insert, spin your fixed head to confirm squareness, then mark the shaft and insert. I prefer to hot melt with Iron Will HM glue so I can reheat and realign a broadhead if necessary.
Yeah I ignored the spine line and if they grouped any better I couldn’t shoot groups. Only two of the dozen could be better but it’s probably my fletches as much as the spine. When I rolled them I did find about 1/4 were misaligned.
Sweet arrow setups. After watching you all for a couple years and talking to others, I switched to the RIP TKO Gamer 300s from a Carbon Xpress DStroyer. Went from 11.25 gpi to 8.8 gpi. I definitely like them a lot. I want to tinker around with the other 6 that I have right now. Looking forward to the Canada 🇨🇦 bear 🐻 action and some spring turkey 🦃 as well. I’m interested in seeing how it turns out. Aron Snyder loves his Sevr heads as well. Another one to try would be the Evolution Outdoors Jekyl or Hyde series. The 125s of course. Only $59 for 3. Ones a hybrid and the other a small 4 blade fixed. You can actually interchange the blades. My middle name is Andrew so I’m interested to see him go full RF on a bear 🐻. I would try that setup on practically anything outside of a pronghorn, coues deer 🦌 or turkey 🦃.
Have you tested that spine align on the shaft how accurate it is? I only had 3 arrows out my dozen that shot Consistently straight at that label. The rest I had to knock tune to get them to shoot straight and group well.
Dan, just wanted to say thank you for addressing the left helical and points/broadheads coming loose (or not coming loose) issue. You guys are producing great videos. Thanks and keep up the awesome work.
Great content guys! Always informative and fun. Great budget arrow for me has been the easton 6.5 hunter classic. They Fly straight, their inexpensive and you won't cry so much if you lose or break one. Keep up the great work fellas💪
Like the budget arrow testing idea. I shoot RIP TKOs for hunting but shoot the standard RIPs for target practice. The 300 spines are both 8.8 GPI and fly the same for me. No point in shooting the expensive TKOs at targets. Thanks for all the videos!
When you guys briefly talked about 4mm arrows and started talking about their terrible outserts. I had victory outserts on my arrows last year and they bent slowly all the time And the in/outsert you mentioned is the one I got. Which tells me I’m at least on the right track.
I am glad I found your channel. Y’all have given me a new perspective on my setup. I’m from Oklahoma so we really don’t have a need for long range shots on whitetail. However if I can lighten my arrow a bit and still keep it quiet I’m all about it. Thanks
obviously I don't hear it eh being from Canada but I love hearing the perception everyone has on us! I dig the SEVR's, wicked damage! always enjoy watching your guys stuff!
I’ve used a gun barrel brush for years. Nothing new. Will remove hot melt if you do loose a point or insert. I use the low temp blue Bohning hot melt and very seldom loose a point.
So I might have missed a video where you talked about it so I apologize if that’s the case. But just wondering if you gave up on the index release? And if so can you tell us why? I have been going back and forth on which release to use and would love your input. Thanks!
Wow - impressive shooting. It's hard to believe that more people aren't involved in archery; it has something for everyone. A vast number of elements within the bow and arrow to satisfy the detail-oriented; a physical component for those inclined toward physical pursuits; a challenging sport for those who want to travel a harder road. Half of the country should be shooting a bow. You gentlemen are good ambassadors for the sport. Thanks for the great content.
all I can say is out here in Colorado archery is exploding in our area. the amount of kids and adults alike that have bought a bow in the last year is insane.
@@coltonoutdoors358 That's awesome. Here in Wisconsin, the trend is away from conventional archery and toward the crossbow. I don't begrudge the choice of other persons - but shooting a crossbow is a vastly different experience than shooting a conventional bow. Best of luck to you in Colorado.
Victory RIPs (not TKOs). Almost identical diameter and weight to the TKOs but very budget friendly and spine align markings. Only difference is, it’s not woven carbon like the TKOs. Also comes in three straightness levels (0.006, 0.003, 0.001)
You guys should try the XL annihilator broadheads! Shot both my bull and buck last year with them and had a full pass through on both. 515gr total arrow weight. 15% foc
How fast does that AAE max bond set up? Can you put the insert in and give it a quarter turn to spread the glue before it sets? Ethics makes the best insert/outsert for these kind of shafts. No giant baseball bat sticking out of the front of your arrow.
I've been running the sportsman's warehouse vital impact arrows and it would be cool to see a video of what I'm missing out on in terms of accuracy and consistency compared to a rip tko(same gpi on a 300 spine)
That's a great idea. Budget equipment vs. Elk Shape preferred equipment! Top 3 picks of complete rth budget setup vs. the Elk Shape crew setups. Then, do 3 giveaways of the complete rth budget setups.
Have you guys tried the annihilator broadhead....either 100 grain or 125 grain.....any of them?. I've been using them...im using 100 grain with added 30 grains insert weights....so far killed my 2023 coues deer, javalina and Coatimundi, all with one brodhead....and still ready for the next hunt.
Hey guys I was wondering how come you don’t try out the iron will insert system for 4mm or 5mm? I believe there is a Snyder core system that can be glued in for the 4mm.
I'll be using SEVR broadheads as well for bear and turkey this year. Used them for blacktail last December but never had the chance to take an arrow out of the quiver.
My setup for this year is victory rip xv elites 300 spine 7.1 grains $180, ethics archery outserts cut to 140 grain $65 nocturnal nocks $112, tooth of the arrow 125 xl solids $200. 28.5” total weight 509 20% foc.
I've been running RIP TKOS since the 2020 season. I have arrows with both the 75 and 50 Shok TL inserts. I can run 125 or 150 grain broadhead, and they shoot identical. The 75 inserts only get broadheads, as they cost extra. I've had no problem with the 50 grain inserts for targets. I've buried them into trees, and they come out just fine.
Video idea that could become a 3 part series ending in a 4th giveaway video. Budget-friendly equipment vs. Elk Shape preferred equipment! Top 3 picks of complete rth budget-friendly setup vs. the Elk Shape crew setups. Then, do 3 giveaways of the complete rth budget setups. Each of you could pick your complete budget-friendly setup to go against your specific setup. This would be awesome!!
I was trying to buy some of those inserts last night and they were sold out… guess we see where they all went. Haha casually throws a bag of 50 on the table
BEST BUDGET ARROW for me and the one I continue to shoot is the Gold Tip Kinetic 300 with the factory insert and collars, My arrow is cut with knock at 28-1/4", My total arrow weight is 479.5 gr. I know that the aluminum inserts sucks but they have been great for me. I like that the GPI is 10.4 and I still get the .204 ID. If you hit something hard with your arrow it will tend to not spin correctly again unless you re glue the insert. I have had good luck with getting consistent arrows from a dozen with one occasionally not tuning. Id like to see you guys try these out and let me and others know what you think about them. Maybe you could take this arrow and add the good inserts and collars to them to see how that would work out, or other options you may think of. Only thing I can see would be the arrow would be super heavy and I am not into that. I do however like that they are 10.4GPI so you get a little punch when you connect with your target. Any who I just wanted to put my opinion out there for a budget arrow build. #A.B.T. guys.
Dude, I love the video, but one suggestion I had horrible results using acetone on cleaning up the excess carbon on the inside, I was having issues with inserts slipping or pulling out, instead I ran straight alcohol for no residue left on the inside.
I use the Victory RIP with Easton brass hit inserts. Not a fan of the outserts ,have bent a few on foam targets. The 5mm titanium Easton outserts are really good from what I have heard. Great video and good luck on your bear hunt!
The best budget arrow I've come across so far is the Black eagle outlaw. Their consistency is WAY out of their price range. Took them to TAC SD and only lost 2 arrows over 4 courses. Right now I'm playing with the victory vf tko sport.
Hey guys, been looking to switch from fixed pin to a 3 or 4 pin slider for the first time. Would love to see a detailed video on how to set pins and pick sight tapes. Trying to figure out the best yardages for each of the pins.
Budget arrow - I've been a big fan of Black Eagle Carnivores for TAC. I don't bother with expensive outserts or anything, just factory insert and 100gr bohning points. Light and fairly durable for the price.
Been trying to decide if I want to go down the rabbit hole of getting bare shafts and putting my own fletchings on or going with a set of Black Eagle premade arrows. I’m brand new to archery and while I shot the old school leftover gold tips hunters my dad bought from Walmart, I want to pick out and shoot my own arrows that I choose. Does anyone have a preference between Black Eagle, buying shafts and putting fletchings, or just getting vector arrows? Currently 56lb 28.5 inch draw.
The set up I shoot is very budget. I do shoot heavier then you guys but I also shoot tight quarters in eastern nc and I can still get 100 yards out of my sight tape if needed. I shoot 250 spine black eagle rampage with there stainless 50 grain insert and 50 grain brass screw in add a weight with 125 grain iron broad heads. All together about 560 grains and around 18% foc
Best budget arrow. Victory VForce Gamer with the stock 23 grain aluminum insert or the regular RIP with the stock 60 grain stainless halfouts. Please test the AAE Pro Max against the HPs!
I'm shotting the vap tko 300 431 grains total. 150 total up front, just under 15% foc. 27.5 draw 26 carbon to carbon 70 lbs. Feel like I'm overspined or hand torquing. Always shoot left no matter the distance even after pro shop tune
You guys are CRAZY!! I would be nervous to shoot at anything cuz I'd be so worried about losing an arrow that's almost 100.00 bills with the broadhead. 😳
While you guys are trying different products, how about trying the Muzzy Shanks. I haven't seen any try them. I love them and have three white tail kills, that only went 30 yards.
GoldTip kinetic hunters are a budget .204 dia. They are a little heavier gpi and .006 tolerance but for only 7.50$ an arrow, I figured I would give them a try. So far I like them
Use the HILL METHOD for testing arrows .....grab 3 arrows of all the different arrows you have, then shoot grps at distance, shooting rds of 12 to 20 arrows... DON'T pick which arrow to shoot, just shoot them all and it will give you a very good idea of what your bow likes to shoot and get best results .... cheers guys :)
Hello guys, I was a fan of beman ics carbons went to Lancaster suppy in Pa. With the mind set of switching to gold tip. When I bought my new bow Mattew Atlas 75 lbs. 33"DL they recommended easton 6.5 because of the spine I needed. And I'm happy with the product, I practice long range over 110 for tac and shot 3D and dots with the same arrow. Give them a try EASTON 6.5
The Easton 6.5's are the exact same shaft as the Beman ICS. Easton killed the Beman brand and slapped their name on the ICS. The new inserts they offer with the 6.5/ICS are an upgrade but it's still the same ol shaft.
Budget arrow recommendation: Easton Sonic 6.0. I’ve had really good luck with this arrow, crazy strong, low gpi capable of high FOC and high speeds, very straight for the price. Try it out in the video idea you mentioned! I run it 340 spine Easton brass upfront with a wrap and 3 fletch blazer heat. Somewhere around 15.5% FOC.
Thqy just cam out with match grade sonics as well, I just switched from my sonics (not match grade), got an arrow inspector and every single nock end was wobbly. I went with 5mm axis match grade 340spine with a SS halfout and a 125 grain point 26", weights 473grains with a 19.37% foc 🤣
My experience and YMMV, but a budget arrow that is a really good arrow is the Victory Rip (not TKO). They are 5mm, and come with 60 grain stainless steel outserts. Slightly more GPI than the Rip TKO, but still light, they are high quality, and because they come with the stainless outserts, you don't have to spend money on components. I've shot them quite a bit and are pretty durable. I am also building some Rip TKO because with the slightly lighter gpi, I can put a little more insert weight for a bit more FOC.
I shot a 200 lb bear at 12 yards with my sevr 2.0 and it worked great. Shot a buck with it and it took forever to find but my shot was farther back than I thought it was
I was reading guys talking about bare shaft tuning and then they all disappeared. Like they were culled like a 5 year old buck with a dinky rack. WTHeck ? Good banter . I’m pretty much with the bare shaft tuning guys even though I’ve only done it a few times o er the years. I usually just start tuning with a longer arrow and my broadhead of choice. I’ll cut it down until it starts shooting without planning. Then I fine tune even more with micro trimming and shooting groups at 60-80 yards. Call er done when I get good 80 yard groups . Bare shaft tuning probably would save me a ton of time .
Best budget arrows for me are the Black Eagle Spartans. Great components, but the diameter is a little larger than most people like. For me, they are amazing.
G5 dead meat is a great alternative to SEVR on black bears. (Turkeys too 🦃)Fly great, unbelievable blood trails but hate that can-rattle while they’re in the quiver
Dan, i went to your elk shape camp in Arizona. I'm the dude that shot Couse Deer at 75 yards with a Sevr titanium 2.0. The arrow is flying at 306 fps and got a double lung pass through. Yes Dan! I’m running annihilator 100 grains in Canada. Stoked to do a broadhead comparison.

A little string wax on the tip threads solves it as well

My favorite cheap arrow is the Blackout sx3. They are readily available at bass pro and fairly affordable
Loved this video format. Nice group, Dan!
Glad you enjoyed it!
phenomenal shooting on that 100yd group

Nexxus bowhunting all titanium outsert/collar. It allows you to use a standard broadhead in a 4mm arrow and they are solid gear.

Easton 6mm Sonic Arrows for me for sure. Good price I shot 3 in groupings at 100 yards. 3 times out of 5 I will hit 3 in groupings with Mathews V3 31.
Nice 100yds group!
Thank you 🙏

Best budget arrow Easton 6.5 match grade the GPI is great plus Easton offers brass inserts for them.
You guys are CRAZY!! I would be nervous to shoot at anything cuz I'd be so worried about losing an arrow that's almost 100.00 bills with the broadhead. 😳
How are the phase 4 limbs holding up man? Keen to get mine
Where can i buy bare shaft arrows? i want to build my own arrows but cant find anywhere to buy em.
So do your broadheads come loose since they are threaded the opposite way from your arrow rotation?? Lmaoo. Much love man. Great vid
They actually fall off in flight 🤣
While you guys are trying different products, how about trying the Muzzy Shanks. I haven't seen any try them. I love them and have three white tail kills, that only went 30 yards.
GoldTip kinetic hunters are a budget .204 dia. They are a little heavier gpi and .006 tolerance but for only 7.50$ an arrow, I figured I would give them a try. So far I like them
im trying black eagle x impacts with aluminum ousert SS insert FOCOS system and TAC topos and 2.75 drivers this year. 250 spine I shoot 82 lb pull
You guys should check out the single bevel Crafted Archery Aero broadheads.. affordable and supposed to be well constructed..
Best budget arrows: Scheels vendetta arrows. They’re made by victory and great for the price.
You guys really need to try out trifecta broadheads, especially their mechanicals!
When levi Morgan releases his new arrow setup/ whole build I forget the name, but would love to see some ABT!
Just a inquiry. Are the side plates still available to buy from elkshape
Shot a buck with it and it took forever to find but my shot was farther back than I thought it was
Glad to see yal try the SEVRs, they seem like an great design.
Hey hoser, beauty group!
I've got a discharge bag I shoot at 100 , its roughly the same size as whitetail vitals
if you run a 5mm arrow at tac you should run either easton axis .006 arrows or victory rip .006 arrows. low cost high value
First arrows I have built I did black eagle carnivores I would like to see your guys opinion on them.
Been running the x impacts in 250 spine from black eagle. Would love to see you guys test a few!
G5 dead meat is a great alternative to SEVR on black bears. (Turkeys too 🦃)Fly great, unbelievable blood trails but hate that can-rattle while they’re in the quiver
Try Black Eagle Arrows. Black eagle Rampage is a great 204 arrow. Straight, consistent weight with good gpi
