    I love this video, but I wanted to say something that perhaps no one else has ever said. Because when I watch quilting videos, my eyes get fixated on the nails of the demonstrator, I would like to say that your nails are lovely. I know that sounds crazy but it is just something I notice. Probably because I admire nice nails. Thank you for this wonderful video. I can't wait to make one.

      Thank you Betty! I made it awhile ago and the info of technique is accurate. Now I try to be more neutral in color for demos - it was a tip that I learned by doing professional recordings in studios a few years later. Thank you for the kind words. Good luck with your first one!

    I work for sewing stores and I stitch mostly on a Brother Quattro but sometimes I stitch them up on the Babylock Ellisimo. For "our" purposes they are the same machine. But honestly, Crazy Quilting can be done successively on the simplest of sewing machines. I do a lot of embroidery and border stitching which is why those two machines are my personal favorites.

    Hi Rhealene, excellent question. I love to stitch in the ditch to attach the front to the back (with right sides facing out on the top and bottom). You can simply stitch along the squares or follow the crazy quilt seam lines which will make the back of the quilt look crazy, too! And then I add a nice binding. Let me know how you make out and if you need further guidance!

    Hi... love your tutorial! I am wondering tho, as I am new to quilting, in making a crazy quilt top, I saw on another comment that you use a foundation fabric with a layer of thin batting underneath. How then do you attach the backing after the top is all put together?? With all the decorative stitching already done on top...do you do more stitching to attach your top to backing? Not sure what to do at that point...??? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

  • @CookieGaynor
    @CookieGaynor  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have options. If I am creating a quilt top or pillow, then my layers are: foundation fabric with thin batting underneath. If adding machine embroidery, add tear away in areas as needed when you get to the embroidery stage, and remove excess. If creating clothing, then I do not add batting for items not requiring "warmth".

    I've been reading through the questions and here are some things addressed:
    1) Template for a five starter patch - I added a link to the video description
    2) Clover iron used on the video, there are layers of batting underneath my foundation and I use it briefly each time however, I would recommend using a small ironing pad for pressing.
    3) You can add any size starter template but when making it smaller, you need to adjust the strips to be narrower otherwise you will encounter a "fabric jam".

    I really liked your video, but as a new quilter, I have some questions. Could you number the order you make your crazy quilt. What about how many layers are there? How do you join the squares and when do you add the buttons, beads, etc and do you show the stitches on the back.

    • @CookieGaynor
      @CookieGaynor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nancy, everything is done by machine. I add a strip of lace to the fabric as I am stitching the block together. If you go to my Facebook page "cookiescreationswebsite" you will have more instructions on assembly on the project freebie page. I don't number the order, it is all random and easy.

    • @CookieGaynor
      @CookieGaynor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gail Waisanen I would lay it out on a large cutting table and use quilting pins beginning in the center working your way outward. Paula Reid Has an excellent Craftsy class and using a domestic machine for quilting.It is exactly how I do it. I use all the same tools with the exception of my preference for quilting gloves because they don’t shift.

    • @gailwaisanen2752
      @gailwaisanen2752 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cookie Gaynor, sorry, I didn't communicate as clearly as I should have. What quilting pattern or design would you suggest, using a domestic machine - quilt in the ditch, channel quilting, diagonally across the crazy squares, something else? What would look good over a crazy quilt?
