Thanks! I think the secret is in getting the colors to match the backdrop. I try to do a little every day, that way I keep some momentum going. I appreciate you watching!
@SPSteve absolutely, been following since day one. Scenery is my favorite part of the hobby besides the trains themselves. I suggest Scenic Express products/Martin Welberg makes some really cool stuff. Wish that was around b4 I did my Cajon section. Cheers..
@@NoFear2473651 I appreciate you coming along on the journey! My layout is a railfan/diorama layout, so scenery is very important. I've purchased things from Scenic Express but I'm not familiar with Martin Welberg. Thanks again for watching!
Just incredible. You have captured all of the colors of the backdrop and tied it all together so it looks completely natural and realistic. Great job, Steve.
Thanks Derek! I think matching the colors to the backdrop is the key. And like you mention, tying the colors together is what makes it work. I still have work to do in this area, but each day I get a little further along. I appreciate you watching!
Really easy to follow and the results are great. The rock work blends in very nicely with the backdrop, which shows you really played around with getting those colors right. Thanks for sharing this transformation.
Thanks! I hope to get the groundwork finished up in the North Canyon in a few days. Right now, I'm thinking I want to do all of the rock work and groundwork on the layout before I do grass and trees. So, it will be a while before the canyon scene is completed, but I would like to get everything except grass and trees completed in the canyon soon. I appreciate you watching!
Thanks, I appreciate it! I try to use my backdrops as a guide for painting. I'm eager to get some work done in the canyon bottom to see if it pulls the scene together. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, man! I'm trying to work on it a little every day. Try to keep the momentum. Even if just for 1/2 hour it is moving the project forward. I try to have that mindset for whatever I'm doing, model railroad, house project, classic car project. It all adds up. Thanks for watching!
You do an excellent job describing your procedures! It all looks so realistic! Only one tip that I do, which is when applying the black wash, to drag a wet paper towel over the rocks from the top down to simulate rain water flows. After that's dry, a final tiny bit of white drybrushing on the rocks will create an "impressionistic 3D" aspect to help the viewer see the detail. Thanks for all that you do. Great work!!
Good tips. I may do a bit of oil paint streaking when I get to the point of adding greenery. I'll want to wait until the acrylics are well cured before using enamel thinner over the rocks since I'm not going to clearcoat them. But there's certainly more that could be done. I appreciate the input and thanks for watching!
Thanks! I'm trying to be patient and take it as it comes. As you know, there's a process and it can't be rushed. I took a little break and worked on the track in this area for a week, but I'm back on the canyon now. I appreciate you watching!
Thanks David! I'm happy with how it's coming together. I'm eager to get some work done in the canyon bottom to see how it comes together. Thanks for watching!
Hi Steve. Apologies, I put a post on your meng t 72 video but its an old one so you might not see it. Just wondered if you want to sell an un used sprue from that kit. Many thanks. cheers

The vista view from the lift out section towards the canyon looks great! Can't wait to it when you get more in there

That canyon scene will be an amazing railfanning location
Thanks! I'm hoping to create a couple signature scenes on my layout, maybe this will be one? Thanks for watching!
Amazing work Steve. We’ve been vacationing in Colorado all week and man you sure are spot on with those rocks.

Thanks, Eric, it's coming along. I'm working on the river bottom now; I'll need to decide soon if I want to do a resin pour or not.
Looking really nice. Making great progress

I saw it, I replied. I didn't save any of the sprues from the kit. I never keep any of the extra parts.
