With rent food and groceries so high. SSI maximum should be at least $1200 $1300 these days. It's hard living off off $900. It's just not enough.

s\Sad to hear I know the pain was literally living off of $1100 for the past c ouple years only because of child support $200/mo and $903 SSD dependant benefit for my daughter form her father sadly broke his back falling off a high ladder @ work many years ago. Just saying it is very frustrating. Judeth I will pray God blesses you with more. As I mentioned earlier a diff comment check out Bob Diamond Overages can do that pretty simple w/ his help I will be getting on it soon plus other business ventures been wanting to do over the years just been hard to start due to my income. But you could do away with the SSI & get more after just one deal than most people get in a year's salary. Pray you check it out, GOD Bless can literally change your life. :)

The $2000 asset limit for single/$3200 married needs to be raised to count for inflation!!! HUD needs to change the rule that the whole distribution from Special Needs Trust counts as income to calculate monthly rent payments from the tenant . Since I work not receiving Social Security or Medicaid I decided not to create a Special Needs Trust to receive my $325,000 inheritance. I been in HUD Permanent Supportive Housing program before receiving my inheritance. I chose to received the inherited assets in my name since the assets do not count against being in HUD housing. I am am lucky to have a disability and not be shackled with stupid government asset and income limit rules!!!

Thank you for this information. I just had to do a review for SSI for my daughter in May. The interviewer asked me about how much she paid the household for rent. I told him It was average $750 a month depending on how much utilities were because we split it 4 ways. He did not mention anything about the $334/month Federal rule and also did not restore any of the deduction from her SSI. Maybe it will change in September.

I helped her to appeal the case twice but they rejected her request twice. She has to deal with credit card debt now because of not receiving $300 monthly 😱
I think Ssi should check some of the branches and help some of the very vulnerable people in the area.

I paid my taxes and they said I owe X amount of dollars and it’s not true and I wrote them letters after letters and showed them the receipts that I paid it off, so they’re saying I owe back taxes but I can’t work. Of course I’m confined to a wheelchair and I’m going in for surgery December 15 but three payments behind my house payments so I need to get caught up and I need at least 2500 a month to survive when going to be released automatically in my Wells Fargo bank.

As a new person that's making a decision on everything please I say again stop worrying about them only and help us as we need the help too I really can't say have a truly blessed day because I'll be lying to myself I was taught that God says he makes a decision on everything so I trust in him that you will make the right decision as he taught you!!!

What about the fact that if your disabled and get food stamps when they increase the yearly cost of living for ssi (which for many years it was under 5 dollars or 0$ )they take a big chunk of you food stamps so in reality you got no increase and now they take a larger % out of food stamps so now you loose more food $ than the increase ssi total (so you basically got no cost of living increase and your food help also decreased when you add it all up,smh )can we talk about not decreasing our food stamps everytime there's a cost of living increase please

Agree. And all ssi recipients, ss, ssdi should get the max snap benefit. Maybe those getting ssdi of 3800 can not, lol. Say anything over 2500 doesnt get snap. Why have snap if youre gonna constantly be taking it away, its supposed to help. Snap needs to be $500-600 per person a month. Its not cash so you would think they cohld feel less judgemental about that, considering its less likely to be used for drugs.

Is the $2,000.00 in bank account max includes the $943.00 monthly payment so you really only have $1,057.00 in your saving to not go over the max.

When I got my first SSI back in 1988 all I received was $243.00 a month now they're give more than when I received mine. I the presidents should give us what's owed back all those years .. so.$700 x so is $25,200 per year they owe us.. it took 36 yrs to get not even close to $1,320 a month. Doesn't sound right, all congress and us Treasury needs go back to school!

The problem is, he’s also trying to steal my house- and if he’s the landlord, I guarantee he won’t allow anyone but me to live there ☹️ But even if I owned it, I’ve heard creepy stories of renters who refuse to leave. The renters laws are so strong, some people have been unable to kick a person out of their own home!!! So I don’t want to risk that 😱

As soon as you're approved for an SSDI claim your monthly payment amount is calculated as if you were FRA. If you're only receiving SSI, say if your work credits were expired when you applied, then you would be forced to retire at the earliest possible age which would be 62 and you will be stuck at that amount for life.

$1100 a month, what can that do but over the course of time that can really add up. That was the last thing she said and she is wrong, it can't add up that much seeing as you can only have $2000 worth of assets, you have more than that and you lose your benefits. The way I see it is the program is designed to help those who have nothing and that is good but because of that limitation you will always have nothing. It should be a qualifying factor but once you qualify being able to save, in and of itself, should not be a reason to cut you off, I don't mean that you can go get a full time job and keep the benefits but if someone were able to reduce the bills that have to be paid leaving something left to save should be okay if it's more than $2000 as long as the money being saved is to eventually get you off SSI, like starting a business.

  • @DonnaCooper-wl7wu

If she thinks anyone can save a dime at the end of a week living on SSI then she should try it. She would be singing a different tune in no time.
I think it would be a real eye opener if all politicians had to try living on the 943 that we get for a month. I'm pretty sure they would change the way they think about the SSI program.
