Family Drama: Do I Have to Give My Deadbeat Uncle a Copy of Mom's Trust?
When your loved one’s trust becomes irrevocable in California, who’s entitled to notice-and more importantly, who gets a copy of the trust?
In this video, we explore what the Probate Code says about providing trust documents, why heirs and beneficiaries matter, and how leaving someone just one dollar might actually invite them into your trust administration process.
Plus, we’ll discuss:
• Notices and timing: The 60-day requirement and what “notice” really means
• Heirs vs. beneficiaries: Understanding the difference to avoid confusion
• How to protect the trust’s integrity: Shortening the window for legal objections
• Why some relatives have no legal right to see the trust
If you’re dealing with a recently deceased family member’s trust in California, it’s crucial to follow all the probate court rules to protect yourself and the estate.
