At 19 I applied for social security because I'm disabled so I received SSI and later when my mother retired I received some of that as well. Unfortunately 2017 I lost my mom and then began to receive a bit more. So watching this has made things clear to me.

The mantra is patience when you start the CDB process! My daughter's dad and I are divorced, and she is my dependent, which added another wrinkle.
I feel fortunate that an SSA agent volunteered the information about CDB when I called to set up my own Medicare account and mentioned that my daughter was on SSI and her dad was already on SS. It took over a year for the SSA to finally process and approve my daughter's application for CDB under her dad's work record, mainly because we didn't fill something out accurately on the first pass. However, once it was approved, they went back 3 years to when my daughter would have qualified since her dad had been collecting for all that time, and because it was more than 2.5 years, she got Medicare at the same time. It's worth exploring even if the qualifying event was in the past.
And, I"m really glad to see the Medi-Medi video so I can sort that out!

HI Connie! I would really be interested in more detail in what you didn't fill out accurately! Nether of my points of contact ever mentioned anything about this program when we applied! I am retired and get SS retirement benefits and my son has Autism since birth and is now an adult so I believe we qualify. Thanks!

Don’t call the 800 number for SS, because yes, you will wait on hold. You need to call your local office and depending on where you live, you’ll get through much quicker.
If you’re appealing, typically your lawyer will contact them via email.
I’m 59 and on SSDI. The question that perplexes me is about applying for so called state disability insurance to supplement my income. I’m not sure if that’s just another name for The Department of Social Service. If it is, they have a cap on what you can receive.
It’s really a joke that all these low ball financial limitations are put on people. They’ve convinced people that even 4000 dollars sounds like a lot of money.

@@Earthtime3978 There is a monthly limit as to how much you can work and earn while receiving SSDI. But there’s a proposal in Congress to get rid of that limit - I hope it passes with flying colors!

@@ellencookman-EstatePlanningSNT What people don’t realize, even many attorneys I’ve spoken to at firms, is that it’s not one dollar amount that you can make while working and still collect SSDI.
If you want the “ticket to work” program, which means you’re going back to work permanently, you can make 1,450 a month .
But if you just need to supplement your SSDI income and have no desire to go back to work full time, you can make 1,050 a month. Most attorneys just quote 1 450 as the money you can make on SSDI. Not true.
My problem is that I don’t want any work to jeopardize my benefits and therefore live in a terrible financial state . And yes I hope that bill passes in congress like you wouldn’t believe.

THIS WILL BE LONG BUT PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THS MIGHT HELP YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW.I get it it’s so sad how the system or should I say the government will help other people who crossed the border but we the citizens get the end of the stick. I started filling out a medical application and on there the I
Migrants qualify for everything we are supposed too it also has a question for them that ask them if they get ssi benefits ARE YOU KIDDING ME🤬and here I am scared out of my pants crying every night cuz I had to re apply for ssi and I qualified because my husband got injured at work so his income decreased. Then I ended getting told that I didn’t qualify because I had a universal life insurance and that did it. I was being honest cuz you don’t mess with ssi. Well from there on I’ve been crying because they can or will investigate me for not reporting it. my husband took that insurance out for me 20 yrs ago. He the one that😅told ok take over it’s in case you pass away our kids have money to bury have to be asking strangers for money to bury As time went on they collect from my bank . I never ever followed up because I thought it was enough money to bury me. Well it comes out that it was a LIFE INSURANCE😫😢So that what put me over they said after I spend that money that build up in 20 yrs I can re apply. But I’m not sure about that cuz I’ve been thinking it can be considered fraud cuz I didn’t report it.😢if I would’ve known I had that money there believe me I would’ve used it. I told the truth as soon as I found out. INo reported me.I told them I had 1,500 and I told them I borrowed from the insurance cuz we do have to pay that money back! It not ours ITS A LOAN. So please pray for me that they won’t turn around and try to say I defrauded them!

NO, I GET $1200/MO ON SSDI AND I'M FORCED TO LIVE IN TIJUANA MEXICO WHERE I CAN AFFORD TO LIVE AND THERE'S A 10 TO 12 YEAR WAIT ON SECTION 8 HOUSING VOUCHERS FOR SAN DIEGO AND SAN DIEGO COUNTY. MORE THAN 1/3 OF MY INCOME GOES TO RENT $450. I CANNOT AFFORD TO LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE USA ON MY LOW INCOME. THEY MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING. RENT ANYWHERE IN THE USA FAR EXCEEDS MY MONTHLY INCOME. I'M JUST GLAD THAT I'M ABLE TO CROSS FREELY ACROSS THE BORDER AND DO NOT HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD. YOU'RE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE 2 INCOMES AND A LOW MORTGAGE PAYMENT. THAT'S NOT THE CASE FOR MANY RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND I WOULD THINK THAT THEY PROBABLY MAKE UP A CONSIDERABLE PORTION OF THE HOMELESS IN THE USA. IT'S NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD RENT, FOOD AND ALL OF THE OTHER EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH IT.

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT IF YOU DO A SEARCH ON CRAIGSLIST APARTMENTS THERE IS ALSO A HUGE LACK OF SECTION 8 OK RENTALS ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY, SO EVEN IF THE VOUCHERS AND FUNDS WERE AVAILABLE THERE WOULD STILL NOT BE ENOUGH HOUSING TO HOUSE ALL OF THE PEOPLE LIVING ON SOCIAL SECURITY. MEANWHILE GOVERNOR NEWSOM HAS NOW ALLOWED THE CRIMINALIZATION OF HOMELESSNESS IN CALIFORNIA JUST LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE, BUT THE FACT IS THERE IS NOT EVEN ENOUGH HOUSING IN THE FIRST PLACE DUE TO A HUGE LACK OF HOUSING AND A HOUSING SHORTAGE FOR THOSE PEOPLE AND THEY DO NOTHING TO ACTUALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY BUILDING MORE AFFORDABLE LOW INCOME HOUSING.

JIMMY DORE MADE A VIDEO ON TH-cam ABOUT IT AFTER I MENTIONED THE FACT THAT ALL OF THE MONEY THEY SAID THEY USED TOWARDS HOUSING 10'S OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WOULD EASILY HAVE HOUSED ALL OF THE HOMELESS IN CALIFORNIA AND PAID THEIR RENT AND EVEN A SECURITY DEPOSIT, BUT THE MONEY HAS ALL VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE, SO SOMEONE IS LYING AND IT'S NOT THE HOMELESS AND HOMELESSNESS IS THE ONLY RESULT FROM IT. THEY HAVEN'T EVEN PUT A DENT INTO ALL OF THE HOMELESSNESS WITH THAT MONEY AND WITH NO EXPLANATION WHY AND ALL OF THE TINY HOMES THAT GOVERNOR NEWSOM BRAGGED ABOUT HOUSING THE HOMELESS ALL STILL SIT COMPLETELY EMPTY AND NEVER USED OR RENTED BY ANYONE. I DON'T KNOW WHO THEY THINK THEY'RE FOOLING, THE IGNORANT PUBLIC MAYBE, BUT IT'S NOT ME. THEY'VE DONE NEXT TO NOTHING TO ACTUALLY SOLVE THE HOMELESS PROBLEM AND SHELTERS SHOULD NOT BE PERMANENT HOUSING FOR ANYONE.

    • @ACHOSENONE22
      @ACHOSENONE22 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hello Ellen. I am a California resident with a progressive disability and I have been surviving on SSDI solely because of my work history and make $2,000 + a month before deductions. That is my only sort of income and I have been unable to work for 30 years. Anyway I've been surviving on SSDI using it to pay rent and buy food, etc. Now because my disability is progressive I need a caregiver through IHSS and medical. Well in order for me to receive medical I need to provide a monthly share of cost which is over $1,000 a month and I cannot do that. I had no idea about this program until about a month ago. I was contacted out of nowhere by my local social security office where are they informed me that I have to apply for this program. And that it was the law that I have to apply for this program. I have been receiving SSI since the age of 13 because I am legally blind and my parents were very poor and had no substantial assets of any kind. I live in the state of Georgia and receive $943 a month. I am not sure how much I will receive because my father passed away before retirement age back in 2014. He always worked in construction and never made any substantial amount of money. I did not even know he was paying into Social Security because he never paid taxes. The only thing I can figure is that the people he worked for were paying into social security for him. I was wondering is there a minimum amount someone will be paid from Social security? Also will I be entitled to any sort of back payment dating back to his original retirement age?

I’m so sorry to hear of your situation. I suggest you consult with an SSDI attorney in your state. All my best.

I don’t qualify for SSDI even though I earned my 40 quarters and much more. Apparently it’s because I haven’t worked for a long time. If I’d been a playboy in my 20s and then worked less but more recently, the governmentvwould give me money. Nice.

They make it so u can’t afford to live they give me lousy 300 on ssi part when I worked I barely made the same as my ssd only 600 plus they deducted my food stamp by half leaving me to pay more of my Ssdi for food so only 900 month to pay all my tax’s which are double or triple to keep my house

$85 is NOT encouraging! Its an amount from 1962s social security. If lose ssi from earning too much, those of us out here on our own lose snap, section8, and medicaid. Its earn a layghable 85 or even 1600, or roll the dice as a disabled person and attempt a high pay ft job. It makes zero sense.

Not only do you lie to us about income. The government doesn't care about SSI or SSDi because we draw Medicaid. Medicaid is the worst doctors. Also have to pay for it

No asset limit or minimum 100k able account is that. Should be 500k-1million, prefer none. Let us earn interest in the stock market. Totally ablist and discriminative. Why should i have to go through another human to get my money? It just adds another mental toil on top of the disability. Who goes to the movies?
