BGG Review list - boardgamegeek....
If you are a horse and not into board games, you can directly skip to 1:16
Really love when you review two very similar games like this. People are naturally going to be interested in both. More comparisons please!
I agree. I have Longshot, like it a lot and disagree with the review of it, but now I want to try Winner's Circle. A lot.
I have the Alea’s Royal Turf, Face to Face’s Winner’s Circle, and have Long Shot on order :)
Can’t wait to try it out!
Those playing pieces on your copy of Winner’s circle are amazing!
A most helpful (and entertaining) comparison. Thanks!
I’m not sure how you came to the conclusion that long shot the dice game is a solitary experience. When I show it to people, it becomes a very loud game. People start betting on the same horses and alliances form, there’s power ups that allow you to push horses forward and backward, alliances fight each other, but you’re all betting on so many horses that you’re actually a member of a few alliances. You wait till the right moment to sneakily knock a horse back, people “bribe” each other not to knock back horses. Honestly, long shot the dice game has some of my most loud gameplay, only being surpassed by Sidereal Confluence. It sounds like winners circle is just everyone trying to bribe the dice roller, but long shot actually gives the ability for team work
That's how Long Shot plays for us, too. Everyone is members of overlapping alliances, and sometimes they just fall in love with an underdog or a silly name, so every die roll is absolute cheering and groaning madness.
That's all of our plays. If I didn't know the channel, I would assume he didn't actually play the game. Bizarre.
To give an opposing example, this is not at all how it worked in our game of 5. And we're a usually chatty and cajoling bunch. But nobody really had any firm grasp on what everyone else was doing.
Great review. I really like Winners Circle because it’s a LOT easier to play but still affords the excitement of a race. Classic Knizia design. Glad I bought it, just need the right player count as you suggested…
Thanks for pointing to that old gem!
Sorry that I got rid of my "Win, Place, & Show" game, all those years ago. Glad to see "Pet Sounds" in the background.
This is wonderful to hear, I found an extremely cheap used copy of Circle a couple months ago and have been hoping to convince people to try it. And for some reason it had extra content in it
I do like the (always thoughtful) NPI 'omnibus' presentations; comparing & contrasting games.
I love Winner's Circle because of the reasons you said! How many tries did it take you to roll kinky time at 4:43??
I love all this horsing around!
9:48 arguably the best NPI goof
I played Longshot on Easter and really enjoyed it. However, and I know this is kind of silly, I really don't understand the theme. Not only can you buy horses, bet on horses, and equip them with jerseys and helmets, but you also run a concession stand? And the horse's movement determines whether you sold a hot dog? The theme is just a little flimsy for me, but regardless it is a very fun game.
I liked the interpretation of you visiting the concession stand, and the grid above is a loyalty card. That means that you can buy enough hot dogs to have the vendor gift you a free horse or bend time and space for you. It's hilarious
@@JeroenJanseStage lol! Ok, now I get it! :)
I viewed concessions as playing Keno while you're at the track. The jerseys and helmets don't make a lot of sense to me in either game. Nobody puts a jersey on a horse (or even the rider) during the race. Ah well.
Yeah, the theme fell apart pretty quickly for us as well. A helmet lets you bet late? A jersey causes a horse to move when another one does? Having both gets you money? Yeah, it's all bananas in terms of theme.
Though I certainly hope the hot dog stand is named Weiner's Circle.
I really like both of these games. Feel the same way about Winners Circle.
I got kicked out of horse university for horsing around
More games need kinky time results on their dice! XD
That dice evaluation tho. This game could use a good 'kinky time' hack 😉
Maybe I'm just tired today, but I got completely lost somewhere around the fifth kinky time rugby helmet. 🤣🤣🤣
That green jumper looks really good on you, Efka. Brings out the colour of your eyes.
Ha! Loved the shot at the TERF. Nicely done.
I hope they reprint winner’s circle. I’ve been trying to get it. I passed on long shot because I already knew I wanted winner’s circle.
Oh, and there's the end of the video where he says exactly that. Doh.
@@TylerDeLisle I’ve been on the Korean website multiple times and I have notifications set for when they do reprint. It’s been at least a year since the last one. They just recently added the comment that said 4q 2022.
:-) Kinky Time... saddle up!!!!
What am I missing? The box for Winner's Circle seems quite large (for the content it contains)... or is it like The king is Dead?
The box is definitely too big, but it is filled with the plastic insert that holds all the horses.
Will you guys review CMON's Ankh anytime soon? I thought you teased it a while back on twitter and Im curious what your thoughts are
The only horsey-betty game I have is Jockey, one of the editions with the four metal horseys.
Where would one pick up the Japanese edition of Winner's Circle? Having a hard time finding it on BGG Market or Miniature Market
look for Royal Turf on [the-website-everyone-hates-but-uses].jp
I really like Winner's Circle.
TLDR: Winners Circle but actually Long Shot
I've been getting a lot of mileage out of Camel Up during the pandemic (playing with discord and a webcam). Do either Long Shot or Winner's Circle replace it for anyone?
I love all three to be honest. Camel Up is more zany with, depending on which edition you own, camels even running the wrong way round the track! The horses are way too well trained in the other two games, for that to ever happen! 🤣
I wouldn't say any of the horse racing games replaces it, they can quite happily exist side by side, all three being thoroughly enjoyable - IMHO.
👍👍
Lol at Royal TERF.
Religious Secreterianism 😔
Oh I'm not sure what that face is saying in thumbnail but I think not good
Bold of you to have a horse-focussed video and not showcase Hundreds of Horses, the best horse-based game available.
Bold? I still haven't found a copy of this.
.
Animal exploitation and commodification isn't fun and games like these only normalize and glorify the abuse. Not cool nor kind :/
