Congrats on actually being able to change it. After trying to get mine replaced 15 years ago (purchased it at the Toyota dealer) and having to ruin the fuel lines doing it during the process the Regional Toyota rep told me it was an “unserviceable part “. Translation...some of these were improperly tightened at the factory. Be careful if it’s never been done before!
Thanks for showing a "real life" fix (with errors). Most of these guys making videos make it seem so easy. Then you get under there and 6 hours, 4 band-aids, and a few dozen choice words you finally finish. You made my life so much easier!
Quality video with a complete change out procedure. As I do it myself, enjoyed the filter change out mini detours. Would be good to show the proper method to depressurizing the fuel line. Thanks.
Excellent video on this process you did a wonderful job on illustrating the do,s and the don’ts and the problems that you may occur while doing this you did not sugarcoat anything and make it seem like it’s a two minute job excellent video! You also stated which tools that would be used excellent job!
For anyone curious about the backwards ordeal. If installed backwards 1. Reduced engine power 2. Will makes shifting off and harder because it’s not getting the proper fuel flow to communicate to the transmission correctly 3. Will put more pressure on fuel pump causing it to wear down more 4. Will stall out randomly at idle and or little pressure on gas. 5. Will cause less MPG 6. Obviously a few more things will happen but make sure it is installed correctly or else all those problems will be cause by the littlest thing.
Thanks for this video! I just watched it cuz I want to replace the fuel injectors on my 2000 4runner and I thought I might as well replace the fuel filter also. Thanks again! Mo
Have you noticed any better engine performance since? You had mentioned the possibility of running lean, just curious to see if youve noticed anything different
hey I'm trying to replace the fuel filter on a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder 4 g64 non-turbo. it is up against my firewall under my battery but we cannot find a fuel pump relay or fuse to relieve the fuel pressure. we got the top bolt in line off and it spewed some fuel now the bottom one is just stuck we can't get it off and can't figure out which way it turns. any ideas what we can do to relieve the fuel pressure and get the bolt off any help would be appreciated I can't find anything on this car
Try to find the fuel rail and see if there is a knob you can press to release fuel pressure, this is how it was on my Chevy Lumina. I’ve seen a few other techniques such as take the gas cap off or just slowly let the gas drain... regarding the bolt.... unless I saw it I’m not sure what the issue is. I know on my Toyota 4Runner there are nuts/bolts that look like bolts but aren’t really bolts that you can wrench off. You may only have to take the first bolt off and then twist the entire fuel filter out of the housing (that appears like a bolt)... make sure when you install the new filter and are ready to start the car you turn the key a few times to engage the fuel pump to fill the fuel line (line, filter, regulator, fuel rail, injectors)
I don’t know if this is too late but on my 93 eclipse the fuel filter was on the firewall too. The fuse for the fuel pump or injectors was on the battery terminal. Weird place.
Start your fuel lines before tightening the bracket. It will be easier to get the lines to start. Also, I doubt that you had a lean condition or you would have had a CEL. The computer can compensate up to a certain point. When it cannot, it turns on the CEL.
You start the engine then pull the fuel pump fuse which stalls out your car but also gets rid of pressure and fuel in the line. When you go to start your car after replacing the fuse you want to turn your key to the ON position at least 2 times to fill the new filter and lines with fuel again do this before you start your car. Chrisfix has probably the best guide on this I've seen so far.
I'm losing power going up any Hill in my 99 4 runner SR5. V6. I'm considering doing a full blown tune up, MAF sensor, spark plugs, wires, ignition coils, and fuel filter...any thoughts? It has 385,000 on it
Hell no!! Don’t get rid of it best trucks ever!! Mines badass !! A heck of a beauty! Looks brand new! Modified!! With a focal system in it upgraded rims and tires custom exhaust! About to put a lift kit on her!! And when I get my new Jeep I’m still keeping her!! They just don’t make em’ like they use to!! Have light bar hidden under the hood and LED lights all infront!! With bad ass rims!
Duce I honestly don’t see how you can say that cause this guy doesn’t have a clue. Doesn’t depressurize the lines and uses a regular wrench instead of a line wrench. And not to mention several other noob moves. I wouldn’t let this guy put gas in my riding lawn mower.
I always recommend using the manufacturer's suggested plug, which is a denso platinum in this case. It makes a huge difference in fuel economy and power. Using copper or nickel plugs is not worth the 1 or 2 dollars you save per plug

Excellent teaching skills! Thank you. I would add a touch of never seize to all the bolts, including the entrance and exit banjo filter bolts.
I always take a torch to stuck nuts. So you may have saved my life with all your included screw-ups and instructions.. Thanks!
Thanks for the great how to video! I appreciate you mentioning the errors you made as you did it so others it can help others.
Outstanding! Im fixing up a 96 4runner limited right now. Thanks for the help.

Curious why injectors, any specific reason?
I laughed a few times but we are (FINALLY) changing the filter! Thank you
Thank you for this informative video! Very helpful!!
This is a must see video!!!!! I thank you so very much!!!!
Great job!
Cheers!

not much
Good video. I wish you showed the fuse to relieve the pressure.
Nice video, I rather enjoyed watching it, informative to say the least.
I had to cut the end off of my filter and get the nutted end off with my impacts gun with a socket and wrench. It worked.
What year your 4Runner my Toyota 4Runner filter in fuel tank please response.

Would you recommend taping the thread?
Applying teflon tape to these types of fittings has no benefits because it's a flare fitting that makes the seal--not the threads.

Tubing wrench for fuel line and brake line is recommended
unable to locate fuel filter on the 1999, stuck my big head under there several times....
I ripped the fuel filter bracket off because i also had the same problem of the strange welded bolt not turning. i didnt see the top ones so yea...
Awesome video thanks...
thanks man!
Did your truck have anymore git up and go performance?
I'm late to this video. Why did you have to replace it, what were the symptoms? I'm trying to trouble shoot my 4runner and I'm not having much luck
Hello, the fuse do I start the engine before or after removing the fuse?
After
You start the engine then pull the fuel pump fuse which stalls out your car but also gets rid of pressure and fuel in the line. Can you please send me a video how to change a 4 runner 99 fuel pump thanks you So much for your help God bless you
What year is this?
What year 4Runner sir
Are you located in California? That’s a rust free 4Runner!
Indiana
Be VERY careful not to twist the fuel line in half when taking the bolt out of the fuel filter like I did
Dude this fix your lean problem?
I have a big problem with breaking bolts..
When you were wrenching on that nut I was like, "that's totally welded..." The camera had a better view than you did.
Thanks!

Haha yeah I didn’t notice until I took off... I was so confused
Good for you for leaving it in. I would have just redone the whole scene...
Does anyone actually use those tiny washers that go inside with the fuel line?
Thanks

Robert Molina get rid of it it has 4K miles smh
@@vrrrr425 ok. 😭
Holy crap!!! And I thought I had a lot!! 275,000!! All highway miles!
Hell no!! Don’t get rid of it best trucks ever!! Mines badass !! A heck of a beauty! Looks brand new! Modified!! With a focal system in it upgraded rims and tires custom exhaust! Supercharge it
It'll make you appreciate it even more
Much better than Chrisfix! Thank you!

All I did was take off the gas cap push my finger through that little metal piece that covers the gas line for a few seconds after no gas came out.
not all cars have in the same area the filter.. this will not help if you do not specified what car's filter you are replacing.
You put the filter in backwards
Moron
You said you didn't want to smell like gas but you're not wearing rubber gloves. Really? Still good video tho.
Looks like one big mess..
Those plugs you're using are crap, BTW.
Run iridium plugs, or at least platinums, and none of that dual electrode nonsense.
I always recommend using the manufacturer's suggested plug, which is a denso platinum in this case. It makes a huge difference in fuel economy and power. Using copper or nickel plugs is not worth the 1 or 2 dollars you save per plug
never use cheap filters.your just wasting time and money.

Thanks 4 showing the fuse location dipshit
You are welcome
