  • My take on one of the most popular budget HPs in the hobby! Used on an Aune X7S for desktop and through a Galaxy S9 Plus for mobile testing.
    UPDATE: I decided to keep them for use at another setup after all. Totally recommended for casual use and budget music listening!

    Absolutely love SHP9500s. They are so good and comfortable I sold my HD6XX and AKG K702 because I felt like they weren't actual upgrades. Keeping my DT 990 600 ohm though, just really love the bass and soundstage. I also enjoy Koss KSC75X.

    Simplest EQ setting that would massively improve these headphones:
    -4db @ 5k and -5db @10k.

    After one week of burn in these headphones have morphed into a glouries sounding headphone. Bass is firm, tight . Adds a great emphasis to sound. Highs and lows are clear and smooth. Great wide soundstage with stellar seaperation and imagining. Sound and comfort is so good i have retired my Beyerdamics dt770 and dt990.

    I use this with a qudelix 5k using oratory1990s eq preset, with the bass shelf adjusted to my liking. The shp9500 take EQ really well, especially in the bass.

    Good review. However, mrspeakers Alpha dog genuine Sheepskin pads work Absolutely fantastic with these. Surprising I know but they really do. I've tried dozens upon dozens of after market pads on mine and the mrspeakers alpha dog pads are the best by far. Great review though and great headphones for the money.

      Nice! What changes about the sound?

  • @practicalguy973
    @practicalguy973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perception is a big part of it. I had some Polk audio tower speakers that had 10db of too much boomy bass when I first listened and after a couple months I found the bass did not bother me anymore and sounded rather normal. With the sibilance you noticed, I've put extra layer of thin sound insulation and knocked spikes in treble down on other headphones I own. The SHP9500 are easy to pop off the pads and you could try adding something to reduce that effect a few db. Some people have used thin cloth and other things like additional treble reducers from other headphone ear pads and get different peaks controlled making the sound better for their taste.

    You can grab a sharpie a make the L & R on the grills to make them black. it looks perfect and makes the headset much prettier.

  • @ravidiene1814

    12:35 Agreed wholeheartedly with this. I got my HD58x Jubilee and i couldnt find the treble :(
    I know the HD58x is more expensive but i still prefer my SHP9500 due to them having the larger soundstage and treble.
    Maybe the Sennheiser HD58x and HD6xx line are just too intimate and up close for my taste thus im unable to enjoy them due to the lack of details in treble.

      @@chuckolatte600 it turns them into that Perfectly Cooked Medium Rare Prime Rib w/ Au Jus, Twice Baked Potato and Asparagus w/ German Chocolate Cake for Desert. That same meal that sadly is normally only found in Expensive Restaurants or that Obscure Mom and Pop you only hear about from a friend in hushed tones to keep it a secret and all to themselves. In short Juicy, Rich, Delicious and Full. It Mellows them out a little while at the same time giving them just that little bit they were missing that you didn't know they were capable of until you heard them on Tubes from a true Type A Tube Amp. Not Muddied or Garbled as some Headphones can become when given the Tube Treatment. Just to me, Perfect. Have to remember when it comes to Audio, as you've often brought up, no two people here a particular track/song exactly the same way. God didn't create just one ear, he created them all and all are as different as a snow flake. Just like Finger Prints...

    • @chuckolatte600
      @chuckolatte600  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theoretically, you CAN plug the 3.5mm for audio to the DAC, then plug the 3.5mm for the mic into your PC case/motherboard. BUT, people like Zeos have mentioned issues regarding a ground loop signal issue. My boompro actually requires amplification, so I use the Schiit Hel at around 2pm for the mic gain.

    I have a Astro MixAmp Pro TR and it had Dolby Surround 7.1 and I recently order the SHP9500 and I planned on using the mixamp with the headphones to use on my PS4 and I was wondering if the quality would be worse with the Dolby Surround turned on. Also what eq settings you’d recommend to get the most out of the headphones. Thank you !

    To you, what is the difference of airy sound of this Philips and the 58x/6xx? Airyness i'm saying... The feeling of more 3d and crisp sounding, like being in special place. I don't care about ''vocal'' whatsoever, just electronic and instrumental music. With soundscapes!
    Today i'm using a portapro. I know you know this sounding, and what thing you would recommend me to be more chill airy of all these phones you know? THANKS

    • @chuckolatte600
      @chuckolatte600  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as chill, I'd say the 6XX for sure. But for airiness, I'd probably go with the 4XX for a fun v-shaped signature or the 600 for an accurate, neutral signature.

    New subscriber here. I have the Grado SR80e. It is my current reference. I'm a budget audiophile and always search for gems at $100 and under. By any chance, if you're familiar with the Grado house sound, would you say that this is a good upgrade? I love the Grado sound so it's safe to say that I am not treble sensitive and I love decent and fast bass. Not boomy, but quick and engaging. Let me know your thoughts. :)

    Dont these have like loose clamping force? Ive heard from many people and joshua valor also mentions it in his review vid. Like they come off pretty easily if you move your head even a little bit

    • @chuckolatte600
      @chuckolatte600  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very loose, but they are also very light. I doubt they'll fall off unless you happened to stretch them very far (which you DEFINITELY won't do anyways)
