Is this a Hudson? With balanced drivers and roller bearings? Damn! I'll bet that baby could crack 100 if you ran it flat out. Judging from the way the engineer is laying on the whistle, he's enjoying the hell out of it.
This has to be the cleanest steam engine I have ever seen! The only country that is even close to it, is the Swiss steam engines. But even they have grease around their bearings, clean grease !!!
I agree, they certainly look after her. But I would suggest Braunton (masquerading as Lord Dowding) on the West Somerset Railway (England) in 2018 came pretty close.
@mattblack - they also build great cars so their trains will be just as precise. Not surprised - they care about what they are doing unlike lazy-azzed; unionized; don’t-give-a-sheet Americans.
For an engine that size that has to be the smallest tender I have ever seen! And everything so clean and well maintained! Sad this wasn't alot longer! Fabulous!
I just love to hear a steam locomotive traveling down the tracks, and to watch the pistons move the rods. Steam engines are high maintenance, but very few of them exist anymore, I guess that's what makes them so special to me.
The only problems Japanese engineers was the relatively poor quality Steaming Coal...just think what they would have done with Welsh or Blair Arhol coal ( QLD). The Japanese 3'6" ststem was on a par, engine wise, with SAR 3'6" system, except for SAR's Garretts. Well done video. I have seen several static Loco museums in Japan, all top-notch.
Hats off to the meticulous Japanese. My friends who have lived in Japan say every lever and every switch on any appliance or machine is a real one which activates something or the other unlike here in India where if even 50% work and if we don’t come to harm by wrongly turning off or on a switch against manufacturers’ express warnings then we consider it exceptional skill and organisational capabilities of those who made the machine.

It’s really cool that people who like trains no matter where they are from all act the same way expressing their pleasure and excitement.

Beautifully maintained facilities and equipment. The staff at this location obviously cares. Wonderful to see it done right.
I am glad to see Japan getting into steam preservation all the Old Locomotives that remain should be restored to operation.
I just noticed those marine-type spinning windows on the cab front for keeping a clear view of the road ahead. Great idea.
…
Because they get heavy, wet snow that cakes onto everything.
That's because Japan is the Global Leader in innovation.

today we might have bullet trains capable of doing 350 kmph but nothing can beat the elegance of this beast. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃

The love for old steam locomotives knows no borders .
A beautiful steam locomotive. One of the best 1067mm steam locomotives ever built.

Amazing!! I love that big steam machines !!High cuality manteinance, a museum masterpiece but still running!! Greetings from Argentine.
Railfanning and historic preservation is everywhere!
What an amazing machine!!! You can see the pride and care taken with this locomotive.
Brilliant shots ! 👍🏻
Japanese steam locomotives have a neat look all of their own. Well cared for too!
Indeed, I just wish that ho scale of them DIDN'T COST thousands of dollars.

Look up the Ffestiniog railway, very clean engines,
Err. Have you looked at Clan Line, B I Line, and Tornado? Spotless and they all do a lot of work.
Wow, such a spotless-looking engine, a Mitsubishi? Keep it up, thank you
Great Beautiful looking Locomotive and Train Cars... It is a piece of artwork at work. On your Railroad.........

It's a proper fit for such a locomotive, which isn't really that big. This is 42" gauge I believe as opposed to standard 56.5".
