      Wow! What a dig at Neil Young. Stevie Ray Vaughan had a fantastic voice for the music he sooo fantastically played. I have seen both Neil Young and Stevie Ray Vaughn in concert. Every chance I could in the '70's I saw Neil Young and had the honor of seeing Stevie Ray Vaughn, in a small venue with about 200 people in 1987. While I haven't ever seen Neil Young again in concert since the '70's, I would have definitely gone to see Stevie Ray Vaughn every chance I got just to watch him play, and hear him sing. @@ricknelson5493

      His voice improved so much over the years from the early 70's not singing too much, or as well. Until later when he took over and became the leader of the band.

    SRV changed my life. When I first heard him about 1982 or so, rock was dead. Everything on the radio was terrible! Then I heard Pride and Joy. Wow! Real electric blues rock..when I heard he died on 8/27/90, I was working at a chemical plant in Detroit. I told the young fellow with me, that I had to go. I went straight home and mourned! Never did stop that part. He completely changed the way I look at my guitar, and made me get off my fat ass and start really practicing.

      I remember being a teenager, when I was first really getting into guitar. Then I heard Stevie, and I was hooked. The music, the Blues. It was an obsession.
      I was born in the late 90s so I didn't experience the grief of his loss like y'all did.
      On a more positive note, I can't wait for my amp to get out of the shop, should be ready in a week or two (tubes went bad).
      Fuck helicopters, he had so much Music left to give, so much life left in him.

      Stevie played in Bloomington Indiana once and a local guitarist we all knew opened up for him. P.K. said he got to meet Stevie backstage before they started and played his guitar. He also said the strings were a heavy gauge and adjusted fairly high off of the neck and Stevie had very strong hands so it was EZ for him to play while average guitar players would struggle. He made it look easy for him because it was. But not for us!

    • @peglegjim3124
      @peglegjim3124 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      And the craziest part? He played entirely by ear & couldn’t read a note of music, just like Dicky Betts. I heard an interview with SRV once, & when asked how he learned to play he said “Jimmy was always jamming in the house with his buddies, and I’d borrow one of his acoustics, go to my room, & try to jam along with what they were playing. One day they heard me practicing, and let me sit in. I was hooked from that day on.” The rest they say “Is history.”

    Don't care how many times I watch this. 5:30-5:35 always blows my mind. Stevie could break out the shred/fast playing whenever he wanted to, with such ease! This is easily one of the most unique Pride and Joy performances there was. The little end jam before segueing back into singing was really cool!

    I never got to see him live. But I did get to speak to him on the phone in 1988 when his producer was in our studio on Queen St. West in Toronto producing someone else and Stevie called looking for him. He was so sweet on the phone. This was just before he died. So close but no cigar. I have gone through brain cancer, and his producer's name has slipped from me. He was cool too and his other artist that he was producing at the time. His music and videos will live forever.

    A lot of people who knew Stevie say he was a genuine regular good guy but what proved it to me was when he shared the stage with his old blues guitar idols he stepped back and took his foot off the gas out of respect for his elders. Because we all know if Stevie took the gloves off and went to town no guitarist could live with him
