I poured a pad today and I used wet pads for the first time with a transit. It beats using a 2x4 temporary form to screed on top of with a power screed, pulling the 2x4 out and filling in the void having the concrete in the void wetter than the concrete around it. Thanks for sharing your tricks and knowledge Mike!
That initial magged pad looks like an art it looks like it'd be a ton of fun to do but stressful I'm sure lol. Making that nice flat looking pad out of chunky wet rocky concrete
Hey Mike I worked in construction for the last 49 last years finishing concrete and,ran Heavy equipment for my dad and,my uncle which I pretty much still do there's nothing like having a,concrete crew if you could find good finisher's
mike you the man, i want you to teach me how to use the viberstrike, im sure i could figure it out but why not get taught by the viberscreed king. much support from indy, hope luke gets better, i got the covid, actually my whole crew got it
Mike you look really young to have been doing this for 42 years. If I had to do anything big with concrete, I’d want you to do it. I’d fly you to Hawaii for a few days, I’m sure we could work something out. I’m thinking that you might have less work in the winter since it’d be hard to pour concrete in the winter in the north east.
Great videos. I know concrete can be laborous but I think I went in the wrong business. 😂. $2700 in labor for 2 guys for a job that takes half a day. Even my lawyer doesn’t get that much. I’ve done some concrete work and there is a finesse but honestly your videos are giving me and my bank account more and more motivation to do it myself. I do thank you for your videos!
If you think that was only half a day's work you aren't paying attention. As he mentioned, he's leaving before the finishing to go do set up set-up for the next week. Do you think the forms and stringlines magically appear? ; )
I give you your flowers man me and 4 people could not pour a garage floor as easy as you made that look and for giggles me and my buddy tried to screed with the rhythm you guys did I got a long way to go 😂 . Thanks again
I’m pouring near Pittsburgh they’re charging me 225 a yard. That’s delivery and everything but still.. that’s 65 dollars a yard more than he’s paying. It’s 185 a yard where I live but they don’t deliver that far. Gonna have to try to work something out with them
Great channel I've been a contractor for years learned a lot watching your channel thank you! Question .. you mention air in the mix. That's something that isn't for freezing the day you pour but it helps in some way even after it's cured if you're in a colder climate?? Also you mentioned adding fibers to the mix is that something you normally can request or do you add that yourself when the truck gets there? How much per yard?? Thanks
So, I hooked up our extended chute the other day, and as soon as the mud hit the chute, the chain literally snapped off the chute.. The driver said you can't use an extended chute without a sawhorse underneath to support it. I see in all your videos that he's wrong. Sounds like my chain was just junk huh? Ive got some PTSD from that moment.. Can you recommend a good extended chute with a chain that WONT break?
Hey Mike. I'm going to be building a 24x24 shop and have a question about layout for slab. Ok so when I'm laying out for my slab am I wanting to make sure inside my form boards are 24x24 so my walls go to the edge of slab or do I want to go like 24.5x24.5 and then just measure back in some? I'm pretty handy with tools and building but just want a professional opinion and some insite
Yeah all materials are in 4 ft sections so if you go more than anything dividable by 4ft you will have a bit more unnecessary work, cuts and waist. Map out your inside . Maybe you need 24 ft by 28 ft.
That’s hard work and years of perfected skills, any professional you hire that is worth there salt is worth the money, I’ve poured concrete a few times and with a few people it still didn’t look like that! A half ass lawyer costs that much and you have nothing real at the end that’s going to last for years! 😂
Back in the 70's when I was doing this for a living there was the boss and myself usually doing two floors a day, 20 x 40 cellar slabs plus a garage or other small job, occasionally we would take on larger jobs too, when we did 2 floors we tried to schedule them in as close proximity of each other distance wise as we could pour the first floor then pack up but leave power a trowel with some hand tools on site then pour the second floor while the first was set enough to get on to start finishing. After the second slab was in we would do the same routine as the first leaving the power trowel on site, one of us would return to the first floor to get started on it , once finished we would go to the second floor to help get it done, usually we would hand trowel the final 2 passes because you can finish a floor by hand sooner than with a machine, my being 6-5 allowed one pass on a 20 x 40 end to end using knee boards, we would power float the slab to flatten it then when (if) possible to close the floor in with finish blades but to save time due to not having the weight of the machine once the slab was at a certain point (depending on the season usually) during hand troweling you end up saving time plus you can get a very nice finish by hand. We did this for several years sometimes finishing 2 house slabs with enough time to still catch a 2 or 3 car garage or similar job (summer time) , walkways that most times were hand finished with a mag float scroll pattern finish rather than broom, I haven't seen of heard of scroll finish in many many years.
Has Darren ever said that one day he would like to go out on his own. I hope you would encourage him to do so. If so, he and another person or 2 could subcontract from you on your smaller jobs.
Hey Mike, you're putting too much detail into your videos, you'll never sell people on your concreteunderground thing, heh. Just poured my very first flatwork, did it alone, driver was shocked that my only experience was (mostly your) youtube videos!
Been there several times. When you have to bust your hump it always seems like your stuck in Rome having to do a entire concrete city but in a hour or two it's beer time and ot best not be that woke crap.
You guys are smooth and cool for being a 2 man crew showing the experience you both have on this pour. Great job gentlemen 🙏
Thanks 👍
I agree 🇺🇸👌💥

Awesome thanks 😊
We are studying to pour 30 x 35 slab, and we are nervous but happy to find your videos
Thanks

I do not do concrete for a living, what I do is enjoy watching the pros make it look easy.
Yep, great job guys. Have a good week. going to be touch n go here with rain.
I know, looks wet for a few days.
Excellent video. You are a great teacher.
I appreciate that!
Another great video 📹
Glad you enjoyed it
I always marvel at Mike Day and crew...makes me want to do some concrete work.

Good job guys. Nice 2 man pour. Looked like a great day too weather wise.

I might take you up on that Lyle, I've gone to the Virgin Islands to pour concrete before.

Impressive as always Mike!
Thanks again!
Beautiful job
So why was there no rebar put in? Will it have vehicles on it?
I give you your flowers man me and 4 people could not pour a garage floor as easy as you made that look and for giggles me and my buddy tried to screed with the rhythm you guys did I got a long way to go 😂 . Thanks again
It takes a little practice, but once you get it, it's easy. Thanks for your honesty!
Good work and very fair price imo.
Thank you!

Job well done guys !!!
Thank you
Very helpful i just want to build the concrete driveway at the front of my house .
Oh hell yeah!

That $3 sq ft for labor does that include cutting control joints. And how much does the price go up in the winter months? Thanks Mike
Cutting is included for us. Price stays the same for our regular customers. I might bump it up a buck for others.

If you had a vibrascreed long enough, would that have made this job easier or no?
Did I miss it? Where's Luke?
You two still make it look easy. Thanks for sharing your pricing too.
if you're talking about the third guy, he called in sick today, they mentioned it at the start, I could be wrong though.
Have a nice day :)
where is the rebar?

Make it 24x24. Don't make it oversized

no steel ???
no vibrator???
That back left side was deep noticed Mike it almost went over your boots.
I know, something heavy going there.
where is steel , Laser ?
So, you’re pulling in $2688 for a few hours of work ? That’s a decent pay check !
1 guy stays and power trowels & cut joints. I don't think of it by the hour, I do it by the job.

U get what u pay for, that level of skill n understanding is where the value comes from!
@@MikeDayConcretedoes that include setup (dirt work, poly, forms, etc)?

2 all the time

Wow that styrofoam is expensive! More than the price of the concrete itself!
It really is, used to get a 4x8x2" for $35.
