Mya has never encountered a situation like this. I think considering the circumstances she did very well. She is still a puppy in training she’s less than a year old. She has at least another year of training to go. With out situations like this happening there’s no way for me to train her how to react until the situation happens. Mya did not lunged at the other dog Mya was actually trying to play she thought the other dog growling was trying to play with her. Again puppy. I was able to get her refocused and I wanted her attention on the treats to keep her attention off of the dog that was the point to help her in the future. Ignore the dog period is what I wanted. Her initial reaction could have been better. But she did settle down and get back under control. I show all of this so you guys can see the struggle of training a Service Animal and how fakes can distract them. She is no where fully trained. But we will keep working through it until she is. Mya, looking back, knowing she’s a pup that’s never experienced this, and thought the dog wanted to play, did okay. Not perfect. But I was able to get her attention back on me and the treats. Which was the point. By doing that, her attention was off the dog, which will teach her to ignore other dogs completely as her training and the years progress. It takes two years to fully train a service animal. And she’s been training for less than a year.

@Tom Johanson actually no. I was walking past them, unaware the dog was there. And the dog reacted. Regardless, they’re the ones breaking the law, using an untrained dog as a “service animal”. The first fine is $500. The second is more. Then the third time you get caught it’s a year in jail.

Laws aren't strait forward, and are nuanced when they come in contact with private property and organizations. Like stop signs in a store parking lot. Your not actually legally obligated to stop at them. You can also do the dirty at your house, But not in a public park. Often company policies overrule federal law. Or moreso the law may apply, but the feds simply don't have enforcement rights. So no, the law is anything but "strait forward". It's important to remember that some folks get dogs from programs that don't do a thorough job of training. That person was probably not maliciously misrepresenting their dog or their disability... they very likely are misinformed and had been taken advantage of previously by both "certification" websites and whoever trained their dog for them (unless it was handler trained... then no excuses for that level of ignorance).

@@lisaneglia480 I'm not sure who you are referring to with the lying accusations... but the only license a dog needs in the US, is the one required by the local municipality to own a pet dog.... there is no such thing as a legitimate license for public access with a service animal. The ADA states very clearly that the requirements for a service animal are: 1. Handler is disabled, 2. Dog performs a task related to the disability, 3. The dog is well-behaved and does not threaten the safety of any people, other animals, or disrupt the business... if these 3 things are all true, then you have a legal service animal. When they are not all true, you do not have a legal service animal. There is no paperwork required (and no states can make laws that require such paperwork). Thus, is it possible for the same animal to be a legal service animal in some circumstances, while not a legal service animal in other circumstances (depending on behavior). In some states there are laws pertaining to a service dog in training... BUT - if the dog is meeting the 3 requirements of the ADA, it can be considered a service animal (even if the handler is still training - because most dog trainers know training is an ongoing and lifelong process) and those specific state laws no longer apply.
While I'm not a fan of the hyperbolic (click-bait-y) title usage of this channel, I'm able to recognize that this person has a perspective on their experience that is legitimate, and they are trying to do the right thing by attempting to educate folks about how the ADA pertains to service dogs... which is clearly needed, because a lot of folks are under the impression that there is a license/certification/test that proves legitimacy beyond the 3 requirements outlined above... while there is no such thing in the US, and there never should be (as it places undue burden on the disabled).
I don't believe everything I see or hear on the internet, but I do look up legitimate sources of information and the ADA is available to read, as well as plenty of FAQs and similar documents designed to help people understand the rules: www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html

So, many many years ago I worked in a nursing home that allowed us to bring our pets to work. I had an extremely well behaved dog that the residents loved. I paid for very specific behavior evaluation to make sure that wheel chairs, and equipment wouldn’t scare her, strangers trying to pet her wouldn’t trigger her, etc. (this was not required, but I was not taking any chances). She was so good, never went into the dining room or a residents room, was so calm and 100% approved by the facility to be there. They also had a contract with a “therapy” dog to come in occasionally. The first time the therapy dog was there and saw my dog (waiting for me to finish up out side of a residents room, she was just laying quietly by the door) the therapy dog broke free of the handler and attacked my dog. The handler got so mad at me and started screaming at me that his dog was “licensed” and it was my dogs fault and my dog needs to be leashed (my dog was 100% approved to be at work with me, unleashed and I had a full behavior evaluation done). Luckily I had several nurses who had witnessed it and it was decided that any therapy dog that could attack without warning could not be trusted. (Part of the pets aloud policy was so family members could bring in well behaved pets that the residents had to “give up” when they moved in to the facility). I can’t even imagine if that therapy dog had attacked a resident. It has always made me wonder if that dog wasn’t a true therapy dog.

I want to clarify, that even if you are truly disabled that still dose not give someone (or you) the right to bring your untrained doggo into public. It as to be task trained to manage your disability like to pull a wheelchair, alert to your seizure etc. I have met many people like this lady (In the video) that think just because they are disabled means they can bring there dog every we’re.

Totally! They don't have to just be task-trained either. They cannot cause a disruption to the business or present any danger. • @coda3223
      @coda3223 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Tom Johanson To clarify: I was speaking about when a dog is protected under the ADA.
Whether or not a pet is allowed in a public situation is a patchwork of municipality and state regulations, and up to each individual business to exclude disruptive pets, to require handlers pick up their pet's poop, pet not on a leash, etc. If they so choose. Businesses can exclude you for anything they want (no shirt, no shoes, no mask, not wearing the right kind of jacket, etc.), as long as it is not for being a protected class (such as having a disability and having a service animal).
There are many, many laws that detail when pets can be excluded for different situations (not on a leash, if you don't pick up their feces, digging, etc.). In my state, there is a state law that says pets aren't allowed on state beaches, natural area preserves, on ski trails during skiing season, and in other specific scenarios (WAC 352-32-060). Pretty much every public area held by my municipality or state require that dogs are leashed and that they don't bite or molest others at the bare minimum.
You're right that there aren't specific blanket laws that exclude all pets from all public areas, that's because that's not how the US legal system is organized. There are a variety of specific laws that exclude pets from specific areas. Pets don't have the legal right to access these public areas, whereas disabled handlers with a service animal do.
I'm guessing that you are trying to point out here is that Dominique (the gal in the video) is incorrect in asserting that the Dollar Tree business is required to exclude pets, because unless there is a specific state or municipality law pertaining to that specific store that overrides that business's rights to include or exclude who they want (provided they are not excluding on the basis of a protected class), then that woman is allowed to have her pet in the store (as long as the store says it's okay). The pet could even be defecating everywhere, if the business wanted to allow it.

Ugh, why are fakes such a huge problem? 😩 My local grocery store got so bad (at least 1 out of control dog almost every time, & peoples’ fakes even got into actual full blown fights in the store) that I ended up actually making little pamphlets that I keep in my SD’s vest just in case I ever need them that talk about almost everything, like when you can legally refuse a dog and how to tell a real service dog from a fake, & why fakes are dangerous. Luckily haven’t had to use them yet, because the manager is really nice and actually knows the laws & even kicked out an aggressive “ESA” that he saw go after us, but I think they could be really helpful if the dog problem gets too bad again. We’ve seen 2 other service dogs since then that I’ll give the benefit of the doubt, because they were fairly well behaved & not aggressive even though one was very distracted by my dog. The pamphlets fit lots more info than what fits on ADA cards, and it makes me feel better to have them on hand in case we run into something like this. I could post the file link if anyone might find it helpful :) Sorry you had to deal with that, people not following the laws properly are always so frustrating :(

As a trainer I COMPLETELY understand how dangerous any distractions especially form other dogs can be! HOWEVER I've seen a few videos now and you often put yourself and dog into dangerous situations just to make a point or have footage ?! should the untrained dog be removed ..yes ! HOWEVER you standing near the aggressive dog..getting stressed either owner loudly arguing back and forth is not going to help with the dogs aggression who's only going to get worse trying to "protect" the owner and also with your pots it could trigger high HR..passing out ect! Then you would have a situation were you a pregnant lady falls and is unable to protect yourself or dog from the aggressive most of these irresponsible people know they are in the wrong but just don't care so involving yourself puts yall and risk and isn't going to change the bad behaviour in the slightest!
Like you say it's your dogs first time experiencing this so who knows what she's do if that dog was to bite your throat?! The aggressive dog is already stressed ..then the public exchange changes the atmosphere of the store ..EVERYONE is zoned in on the situation ..that aggressive dog can pick up on that ..it could be the thing to ramp it up to a whole new dangerous...physical level of stress! I promise I'm not trying to "hate" on you I'm just concerned for you and the baby I understand you have experience but your dogs not fully trained yet and there is ALWAYS room to learn and improve!
It's best to remove yourself entirely at go back once the aggressive dogs left to discuss your issue OR in bigger stores ignore the issue ..get a safer distance away and approach a staff member/manager about the issue ! If like here they are uneducated contact the head office or corporate. Looking through your videos it's scary to see how many ER trips are due to the stressful public conflicts or even scarier physical altercations !!! I LOVE that you are an advocate but you have so much footage of similar confrontations every time fitting you and your dog in unneeded danger especially since your dog is not fully trained yet..it's just not worth the risk to prove your point unfortunately 😡
It's not even the already stressed aggressive dog you need to be wary of the owner are often also mentally unstable and will lash out physically when called out in public!
Love the education and advocacy but please stay safe! Especially with a large following wouldn't want any viewers to get hurt approaching these irresponsible owners Xx

they did NOTHING when the dog was barking and lunging at my dog (got the cops involved they did nothing saying they could only take action if my dog was physically hurt 😑)
and I asked for them to kick her out, I have seen so many pets in the one near me we always go, my dollar tree is now a little better because I had to threaten to sue them due to them putting my life and my service dogs life in danger more then 20 times (within 2 1/2 months) with aggressive pets and fakes, even an off leash “service dog” who charged us and I had to protect my dog and get bit myself,

I also just read over it and I meant to type 2 my bad I clicked the 0 as well, twice we have almost been attack at a dollar tree, other stores have fakes as well but I meant 2 my bad idk how I didn’t notice that.
The state and city I’m in has a massive issue with fakes and aggressive pets, the stores I go to are about an hour away if I need to go to that store and don’t want to go to that specific store, it’s an hour drive to get to another one, it’s rarely the same dogs, sadly so many pets and fakes are brought in, my state has a massive issue and has a high rate for fakes and pets being brought into stores.
Most of the time I only see the dog when it’s barking and doing everything it can to get to us, when your a service dog handler you run into way more pets then normal people do, some days there are non in a store other days there are 5, depends when the fakes come in.

Thats why I don't take my dog to Walmart, so many pet dogs lunging at my SD. I think it would be reasonable for Sd's to have to pass the good citizen test. It was helpful to see how you handled your dog during the situation.

    • @coda3223
      @coda3223 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The ADA is very clear: if your dog behaves inappropriately, they can ask you to leave. It does not matter if it's a SD or if you have a disability that the SD mitigates. If the behavior is inappropriate, you lose public access for that visit. This is the only enforcement that is necessary, the problem is that businesses are choosing not to exercise their rights because the people the no-intervention-policy tends to hurt most are folks with disabilities who have SDs, and their rights, access, and business is devalued due to marginalized social status.
Every handler should know they can get kicked out of any public place if their dog behaves inappropriately. Every being has a breaking point whether it's facing mistreatment, threats, or an illness. That's part of your job as handler... to notice when your dog is too stressed to perform their job, and then remove them from the situation. You can also find yourself facing a lawsuit about your SD that may or may not be founded. Most handlers who are educated and take the responsibility seriously understand and accept these possibilities. That's why it's recommended that owner-trained SDs have extensive training logs and videos to demonstrate how well-behaved their SD is in a wide variety of scenarios.

For one look up CDC guidelines:
There are people with chronic illness wearing a mask is dangerous for them. She can not wear a mask due to this reason.
Her service dog os medical alert. The other dog is a fake service dog. It's illegal for it to be there and it can attack a real service dog or distract her medical alert servoce dog and her dog can miss an alert abs she could die.
The other woman's dog was bsrking and growling. Service sogs don't do that.
Outside of trained and necessary task work, there should be NO other vocalization, including, but not limited to, whining, grumbling, wooing, barking, growling, whimpering or other noise. Unless working, Service Dogs should be seen by the public and not heard. A service dog does not pull but is in a perfect heel. Focus only on its owner.
Business owners and staff have the right to remove a service dog that is aggressive, growling, snarling, and of course, biting. Business owners also have the right to remove a service dog if it is disruptive by barking repeatedly, wandering around and/or bothering other customers. Or pulling showing full signs of not being a service dogs
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, it's a federal crime to use a fake dog. It's a felony punishable by fine and jail time.
Every time someone fakes a service dog, it puts the work of real service dogs in jeopardy. Trained service dogs provide assistance in everyday life to those who need it. The consequences are not just limited to a hostess asking your bouncy dog to stop putting his paws on someone else’s table. You and your dog’s actions, no matter how benign, will have impact on the people around you, and one misstep can cause people to believe that all service dogs are just over-glorified pets.
Also a fake service dog can distract a real service dog and cause them to miss a medical alert that could injure or kill the owner. Which would cause the fake owner to be arressted for attempted manslaughter.

There were people petting it all over the place. Not saying it was fake I just think the handler should be more educated on how you handle SDs

I apparently had THE exception to the whole breed lol.... my chi was a freaking angel. She was so sweet and quiet and calm. Excitement for her meant rapid tail wagging and a little dance sometimes, but that was it. She had a sweet little girly bark that only she could do lol, and she only used it when a stranger was approaching my door. As soon as she realized I knew the person she'd stop and resume tail wags. She just wanted to be held and cuddled. She never bit a soul (so when Petco groomers accused her of biting them, I literally laughed in their face because it wasn't possible.... they had clipped her nails too short and she bled, and they needed to blame her somehow, so they said she bit them really hard and left a mark.... at this point she only had TWO molars left in her entire mouth!!!!! It was IMPOSSIBLE for her to bite!! 🤦🏻‍♀️) and she loved her "big" sister (my husky mix, who is the younger but obviously larger) and would play wrestle with her, and pretend to bite her with her gentle little mouth lol.... my husky would roll onto her back and let my chi win the wrestling match by climbing onto her! 🤭 my poor sweet baby died far too soon and I still miss her everyday. 😭 it breaks my heart feeling like I'll never again be able to find a tiny thing like her that also has her perfect personality. 🥺 because I worked at a vet too and can confirm that they're very often the violent ones, I think maybe not only because they're compensating for their lack of size, but perhaps because they're not usually trained to be good because people think little dogs are too small to hurt anyone or even to run away fast enough to escape lol, you can just reach down and grab them before they've gotten very far.... people just don't bother teaching them?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ I was only bitten badly once in my few years at the clinic, and guess which breed?! And that little thing had jaws of steel dude, I was wearing JEANS, and I was just WALKING BY in the lobby and it came dashing up to me, jumped up as high as it could, and CHOMPED. It BROKE MY SKIN all the way through my friggin jeans!! 😱 it left a hefty ugly bruise the size of the palm of my hand too. I was notably never EVER bitten by a single one of the "bully" breeds. 🤔

Once fully trained, yes. She’s still in training. Which is why I used the opportunity to take her focus to the treats. She’s a puppy still. We’ve worked with other teams. And she was able to ignore them and work alongside them. This is why fake are so bad. The cause issues with service animals in Training. But how do you train a dog not to React to a situation like this, without it happening?? She has at least another year of training to go. Considering all of that, she did okay. Not perfect, but she did settle down and I did get her focus back on me and kept the treats coming to keep her attention off the dog. Training.

The way the lady looked nervous and was quiet speaking was also a dead give away AS IF THE BARKING DIDNT.. like if you know your in the right you wouldn’t be quiet and looking like a deer in headlights... I don’t have a service animal but you better believe if I saw that behavior I’d call them out AND I’m loud. As soon as someone says it’s a service animal they get a free pass and that’s BS.. like prove it? She said medical LIKE NO DA LADY... people employees any staff or otherwise shouldn’t just be like okay I trust ya because unfortunately in today’s society YOU ARENT ABLE TO.. there good people and then there’s the rest unfortunately the trustworthy and the caring are bumbarded by the others.. it’s like the whole pitbull thing when an animal is abused or there’s a stereotype that’s what people immediately see the bad. It doesn’t seem like much but there are good people small as it may be..

Dollar Tree Dog Policy copy and pasted from Google/Website: "Are dogs allowed in Dollar Tree stores? No, dogs aren't allowed in Dollar Tree stores unless it's a service dog. There's a very high chance that you won't be allowed into the store with your dog, unless he is a service dog. Of course, some locations are more lenient than others"
The dog should've been kicked out... She doesn't even know her own companies policy...
"Yep it is trained that's how they're supposed to be!" THE SHADE 🤣

Funny seeing how her dog is mostly just sitting there quiet while the other dog which is a fake is growling .
Her dog is still in training. The treat a is called apart of training. It's used for positive reinforcement many trainers not just for sevice dogs but police dogs are trained this way.
The other dog had no contr it was growling which sevice dogs do not do. It was a fake illegal for it to be there.
      Please educate yourself.

Our Walmart does this all the time. They say that there is nothing that they can do about it, and they don't ask questions. The last time it was a growling terrier in a shopping cart while I was at the pharmacy with my service dog. I told the lady that she needed to correct her service dog and that it should have 4 on the floor or carried in the store. She informed me that it was emotional support (at least she was honest), and to mind my own business. I told her that it was my business because her dog was distracting and acting aggressively towards my dog and that she was risking the health of others by having her dog in the cart. I was then ignored and the lady walked off giving me the bird. Ugggh I don't have the energy to deal with it, sometimes it is all I can do to get to the store. Thank you for your posts.

I am able to get a service dog, but at the moment I choose not to because I’m still in a position to manage without somewhat, and considering how much money is put into training these wonderful animals, I don’t want to drain the already low money for UK service animals. It was only about a year ago I was chatting to a friend from the USA, and she told me she was going to get her dog certified as an emotional support dog (that dog has since past may he rest in peace). I asked why. Despite her having a form of disability and some mental health issues, her answer was “so that I get to take him everywhere with me with no questions asked”. I was quite taken aback. It’s that attitude that gives genuine users of genuine service dogs so much hassle. I understand that emotional support and service dogs are different in the USA (I’m from the UK), but still, surely a need other than “I just wanna take him everywhere with me it would be so cool” is not a good answer. I’ve never owned a dog and I don’t know much about them, but her dogs are not trained at all, aside from pooping outside, they often pee inside, there is no structure to the day, barking and growling and jumping and sometimes biting. Not the dogs faults, but she had opportunity to start with them from young puppies.
