Great video, one question, when only recording when motion is detected, does it only record 20 seconds at a time? and how many seconds before it will starts recording again when motion is detected? looks like it takes quite a while before it starts recording after the 20 seconds motion recording. The night video is great. I hope they will increase it to 30 seconds or 60 seconds motion recording.
They really need to make an optional 12Watt solar panel or some way to hook up two in parallel to solve the charging issues. You might never need to ever charge the batteries then. Especially if it is in motion sensing mode or some hybrid of that.

Then I'm also wondering what happens if snow covers the solar panel and it's too high in the air to brush the snow off. The thought of running a power cable to that side of the house sounds like a pain. Man, I'm really torn on what to do.
I was thinking, as the camera has a usb fitting for charging maybe one could use a larger solar panel - and charge controller - than the manufacturers offering to overcome battery depletion
Good info. Thanks. One question. Is it Atlas or ALTAS? I only ask because I went looking for this and I only found the REOLINK Altas PT Ultra - 4K Continuous Recording Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor on Amazon.

I'm not sure how big and it really depends on the weather. Reolink sells a trackmix plus but even with that big of a solar panel it is not guaranteed that the battery will not drain out. reolink.com/product/trackmix-lte-plus/
Non reolink solar panels doesn't have the sealing on the connector. At the moment 6w is the biggest from reolink. At the IFA they showed a new 12w panel, but no words when this comes out.
@@SK-df6pxI could just cut the connector off and connect it to a different panel. Just wondering max watts amps voltage the power supply will take if I went DIY
I'm not sure on the NVR but it shows on my NVR though as an option to connect. Currently, I cannot connect battery cams on my NVR even with updated firmware.
Ok I’m definitely interested but can it record if someone walks underneath it .. where I have my cameras I have to blind spots .. it’s where people can just walk underneath my track mix
That is a weakness of any tracking camera, when the movement goes toward and underneath it. There is a 50/50 chance and with battery cams lower for the camera to follow through.
Is a good camera, but the only issue is, if you need to change the wifi password, you will have to reach the camera for a reset rather than using the app.
what are you thoughts on the Reolink marketing saying 8 days of continuous recording, when in reality it's 4 days? I mean, saying continuous recording and then saying, oh 12 hours per day or x hours per day afterwards seems misleading and disingenous.
I know..more of a marketing strategy. It ticks all the boxes though, they didn't mislead... that is why they didn't say 24/7 recording.... it can record continuously which is true until the battery runs out. There are people by the way that just wants scheduled recordings...like continuously at night time but not in daytime or other way around.
@@LifeHackster The word "continuously" is the misleading part. If you look up the definition of that word: "without interruption or gaps." I wouldn't call having the camera record for any amount that is not 24 hours a day for "continuously", it makes no sense to me....
@@da9el84 I think they are grammatically correct when saying "Can record contiously for 12 hrs a day", that means it records without breaks during that 12 hrs a day timeframe and that is correct. "It can record contiously" obviously would be wrong as that would mean it records all the time, all day long. Of course it can be a bit misleading but I didn't feel I was getting the wrong info but some seems to not interpret it correctly so guess it could have been worded more clearly.
@@RPGWiZaRD Yeah, but that's not what their marketing said. It clearly stated 8 days continuous recording until I contacted them about the misleading marketing. They have now changed it to 96h continuous recording, which is much closer to being accurate :)

Does the camera support sentry mode? I.e. set up monitoring points and camera auto cycles between points looking for motion to track? If so, how to setup thanks.
For the 10sec pre-record, surely the only way that can work is when continuous record is active, ie you can’t have pre-record with motion detection record, as the cam will only waken when the PIR detects movement ?
I answered you on your other comment but this is because it has a recording buffer which is always ON and when motion is detected, it attaches that ~ 10 seconds of clip to the main clip.
@@LifeHackster ah I see, so in this mode they are saying up to 500 days (depending) on the number of events….thats pretty good. Pity its doesn’t have IR illumination, that seems like a glaring omission
@@ianmcneill1079but, if you turn ON pre-recording, then it uses up a lot of battery life.. currently, it is self sustaining in my backyard with a solar panel.
I wouldn't want to take it down every 4-5 days to recharge. If I do motion only with a 10 second pre roll I shouldn't have to take it down to recharge?
In order to pre-record, it has to be recording all the time, draining the battery. So without a solar panel, you'll get 4 days or less before empty. With a solar panel you might be able to stretch it, but in the winter, don't count on it lasting more than 3 days. Also, SD cards are not meant to be written to 24/7, so idk if they added some internal buffer or what, but I would also assume that it's going to chew through the SD card faster than other cameras
Great concept to have a wireless continuous recording camera. But even with a solar panel, it can't bring the charge back up to 100% after overnight usage? Kind of defeats the purpose of being able to continuous record...
Nope. Because in daytime, it is still using its battery charge...so a 6 watt solar panel is not enough that's why a higher wattage and bigger solar panel. This is also why Reolink advertises this that it can record continuously for 12 hours for 8 days or 4 for 24 hours and not 24/7.
@@LifeHackster Hate to say it. But the time you'll end up needing that recording, it'll be the one you didn't have on scheduled to be recorded continuously... That's one reason why it's so important to have continuos recording and for 24/7. I'll wait for a bigger solar panel or add-on that can charge this thing up properly and provide that 24/7.
@r.l.8170 You can also power it up with a USB charger if you have a plug near the camera, I have one in the spot lights and that keeps the camera fully charged.

@@SK-df6pxI could just cut the connector off and connect it to a different panel. Just wondering max watts amps voltage the power supply will take if I went DIY
Can it be plugged in with USB-C charger to run continuously on power from an outlet instead of solar panel?
Yes.
Can I access the camera remotely, or do I have to be on the same wireless network to see the recordings?
Are you sure detection zones work? Reolink has indicated ion previous WiFi batter cams that they don’t work. That’s was discovered with my Argus.
How long is the wire cord from the solar panel to the camera?
Dual Lens ColorX POE?? Do you see that in the near future? Thanks
Hopefully, soon.
How long did it take the camera to charge the first time?
Just to be clear, does this currently support Reolink NVRs? I have an existing reolink NVR system and this would be excellent.
@@LifeHackster thank you for replying
Is a good camera, but the only issue is, if you need to change the wifi password, you will have to reach the camera for a reset rather than using the app.
Can it be mounted on wooden poles or trees.
what are you thoughts on the Reolink marketing saying 8 days of continuous recording, when in reality it's 4 days? I mean, saying continuous recording and then saying, oh 12 hours per day or x hours per day afterwards seems misleading and disingenous.
I know..more of a marketing strategy. It ticks all the boxes though, they didn't mislead... that is why they didn't say 24/7 recording.... it can record continuously which is true until the battery runs out. There are people by the way that just wants scheduled recordings...like continuously at night time but not in daytime or other way around.
@@LifeHackster The word "continuously" is the misleading part. If you look up the definition of that word:
"without interruption or gaps."
I wouldn't call having the camera record for any amount that is not 24 hours a day for "continuously", it makes no sense to me....
Do you know if the Atlas PT will be available in black like the Argus PT Ultra?
I'm not sure at this time..but hopefully, they will offer that option soon.
Do you know if I use the home base DVR feature the cameras need to have direct connection to the Home base. I'm having s erious issue with the eufy cameras as I have a big house. My cameras are not connecting to the home base. I need a solution that works only on WIFI as I have a mesh wifi at home at that works fine already. Thanks for everything that you do.
Does the camera support sentry mode? I.e. set up monitoring points and camera auto cycles between points looking for motion to track? If so, how to setup thanks.
No sentry mode. That will add to the battery drain.
That is what I currently set it on and it seems it is holding up.
@@da9el84 Well that sucks if true, basically a worthless product if you have to charge them once a week. I for one am not down with that.
Can you connect it to your NVR? Other battery cams can't.
I didn't try it because my NVRs are not able to connect to my battery cams even with updated firmware.
Not yet but they are supposed to be releasing new nvr firmware for this.
If the Internet goes out does it automatically save to sd card?
Yes. It does save to the SD card if you installed one all the time.
Hello, is this really a continuous recording camera, 100% ??
Yup. Until battery runs out.
… they did it.
@@JoelsterG4k I have power in multiple locations and those already have 24/7 Eufy cameras. I am planning on phasing out Eufy with Reolink since Reolink have POE and Eufy doesn't. Currently looking at Reolink's solar to phase out Eufy's solar cameras. But for now, it's mixture of Reolink, Eufy, and Blink. And also have a mixture of POE (Reolink), power near plugs (Eufy), and solar (Eufy, Reolink, and Blink).
If I put a huge aftermarket solar panel with a solar controller say a 200w panel. Could this thing run continuously during day hours (that's all I need). What is the connection for the solar 12v?
Connection is USBC. This can definitely run 24/7 with an appropriate solar panel setup.
@@LifeHackster Thank you! That is interesting. This means you could get a solar kit with USB output and a large panel.
what sd card did you use?
can i check the camera when im not at home
WAITING TO SEE WHATS IN THAT EUFYCAM CODE CHALLENGE BOX. HOPE IT'S WIRED
I'm excited to find out too!
So if you use this with the homehub, you cant use the pre recording mode.....
Does it work with LoT?
I'm not sure on this.
Nice, but I like my eufy setup now.
Thanks for watching!
What’s going on with the app … have you guys seen the recent reviews? Not sure if I should get this now
Lets see it on the front of your house with more traffic and people.. lets see how long the battery last. but still good
Was just going to nessage you why no video on this camera as yet
:)
I will stay with the POE cameras
Does it use SIM card or is it WiFi ?
15 frames per second ? Why ?
That’s a letdown for an otherwise very good camera.
