    Just took ownership of an ID5 PRO 2024,
    First trip was motorway from a full charge. We did 300 miles and had 37 miles left when we got home. Didn't need to charge which was very unexpected. Set off with 97% charge, will only use it to 80% for 99% of the time. Very happy with it so far.

    My MG ZS EV LR has a better warranty / 7 years, plus the glass roof slides back and it only costs 30k Euros here in France. I could buy two for the price of the one in this video.

    That plastic interior can't be hard-wearing if it is already scratched! Can't beat proper switches for things, so you can feel and see if it is on or off.

    Bang on review on this VW everything you pointed out was right, I owned a MK4 golf and a MK5 and the interior was superb quality and so practical, but why are VW using such poor quality materials and bad designs this is like cars in the 90s rather then a 2022, even when you pressed the headrest on the seat looked cheap due to how soft it looked. MG looks a better car by far ( just wish they would add adjustable steering wheel ) you would think after all the bad press the other VW's had they would of improved on this one, when you was scratching away at the plastic made me cringe.
    P.s don't see the point on sports mode on cars like this just make a good suspension that takes all the bumps but also gives you good handling , Mercs do a good job of that.

    I work for VW/Audi in London and have pre registered a number of I'd.4/5 it is fair to say that so far it is a total flop where as the buzz,essentially an electric van with windows,has sold out till next year and someone paid 72k for one.Does seem a mad world...the plus point is that we were flown out to see the face-lift of the id-3 which has a nicer cabin and better infotainment, we are pressing to get that earlier than September

    I had one on a 48 hour test drive this week and really cheesed off the salesman when I returned it after 24 hours as not good value for money and not the quality I expect of a VW. Current EV is a Mini Cooper S E level three that is considered to be expensive for what it is but the interior quality, fit and finish beats the ID3,4 and 5 hands down - the Mini at least feels quality for the price you are paying.

    I have an ID5 GTX and would say that the review is a fair round up of the car. I previously had an ID4 First and thanks to fortunate timing I got a fantastic trade in deal and combined with government grants the fairly basic spec ID5 GTX stands me £37,500 which I would say was a fair price, if I had paid the £55,500 sticker price that the car should have been I would be feeling extremely short changed. It's a great car with good range and great interior space. The 3.1 software is much better than the original 2.3 but still nothing to write home about.

    • @gunhann
      @gunhann ปีที่แล้ว

      What government grant takes off 20k from the original price?

    • @gordonf1997
      @gordonf1997 ปีที่แล้ว

      @gunhann I had fortunate timing with my trade in, I got considerably more for my ID4 with 36k kms on the clock than I paid for it new! I got 2 x government grants of approx £6.5k each, one on the ID4 and one on the ID5 and then about 7% discount on the sticker price. The government grant has now been completely cancelled and trade in prices are back to reality so no chance of getting such a deal again...

    These companies need to take the feedback definitely rather than 'penalise' car reviewers for being honest.

  • @stamfordly6463
    @stamfordly6463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Let's be honest none of the EVs from "volume" makers like VW are really £50-60,000 cars, if they were petrol or DERV you'd say "Are you trying to take £20,000 worth of piss?" The EV drivetrain might be more expensive than ICE but it isn't 20k more expensive.
    Which makes it even more egregious that the accountants have made the interior quality so crap. You can't blame it all on the suits though, some engineers must think that haptic feedback and important controls that you cannot operate by feel are a good idea. They're not and anybody who thinks that he can improve on a knob or rocker for a volume control needs a thump.

    Sloping back window means you can't get tall objects in the boot and/or you hit your dog on the head when closing the tailgate. If you really like the 'Coupe-on-stilts' look, the Enyaq coupe looks better, feels more premium and is still better VFM. I think they should have lowered the suspension and made a more 'saloony' car though.

    Put it next to the Enyaq and it's laughably poor value.
    Bring this in in the upper 30s and it's its money.

    Great review as ever - VW pricing in general is uncompetitive at the moment, combined with the cheapening of their cabins. They can probably get away with it on the short term because of demand outstripping supply, but will they see a backlash in the medium term? Especially when the likes of MG, Ora and other Chinese brands establish themselves in the UK.

    I really wouldn’t consider it even at a lower price point. The interior just looks cheap and the competition is light years ahead and at a much better price point . We wanted roof rails so the ID.5 was a no go. At least here in Norway the ID 4 have been competitive priced ending the year as the second most sold vehicle after Model Y. But over the new year weekend VW have increased the price 5% on ID 4/5.

  • @ma40
    @ma40 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It would be a decent car at just under £40k - which is what I paid for a ID4 77kWh 1st edition 18 months ago. Overall it has been fantastic particularly for lugging dogs and sports equipment around, and for the relaxing drive, but I take your point with the cheap interior. However, with chip shortages, inflation, long delivery schedules, and VW taking too long to make each car (essentially hand building them), the entire ID range is just too expensive. I would like to replace it with the upcoming ID.7 Aero estate (Space Vizzion), but I expect it will be far beyond my price range.

  • @RichardChambers
    @RichardChambers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m struggling to see the point of the ID4 and 5. Nearly double the price I paid for my ID3 for less performance and range, and all you get is a bigger boot. The profit margin must be massive for these cars as I can’t see what the extra money gets you at all?

    Are the seats out of a Cupra Born or very similar ? VW have just done what Audi have done with the Q4 etron, same car I bet. VW have fitted the 77 kwh battery as the 58 kwh battery isn't big enough for the weight of the vehicle. I know one Audi Q4 etron owner with a 58 kwh version only getting 150 to 180 mile range in summer.

    I was contemplating an ID.5, but after looking into it I’ve decided against it. The specs aren’t great and that interior is very poor, especially considering VW used to do some really classy cabins. I’ve got a 2019 Tiguan which looks opulent compared to this. And I’m sure it’s not limited to the ID range either, as when the aforementioned Tiguan went in for a service recently, I got a 22 plate Golf as a courtesy car and the interior of that was just as bad. And those squidgy buttons are horrible, too. I’d argue they aren’t haptic as there’s zero feedback from them. Oh, and the display behind the wheel was an unprotected OLED display mounted on hardboard. Awful. I suspect the caning they got from the emissions cheating is having an effect…

    Another great video, showcasing what I think is a pretty average and seriously overpriced EV.
    I really don't like the exterior design of the ID5. It seems to be neither a saloon/sedan or an SUV and has ended up pretty ugly.
    VW seem to have designed this model, like the ID 3 and ID4 "down to a budget" rather than up to a quality that justifies the asking price. More shocking for me is they seem to have forgotten just how important the layout, feel and functionality of a car interior ......... the place you spend all your time with the car, actually is. Compare the quality and finish of this to one of their £50K ICE cars and I think you see a world of difference ......... in favour of the ICE car.
    I'll be very interested to see reviews of the ID Aero when it goes on sale next year to see if VW have learnt any lessons, or just ploughed on with the same thinking.

    All three cars don't make much sense. I see them all as slightly variations of the same car but with the id3 starting at 36k and the id5 at around the 60k mark there is nothing between them that warrants the huge price jump. Plus none of the Id range does anything for me. I'd rather take the Skoda Enyaq but at these prices I'd just buy a Hyundai Ionic 5 or Kia EV6. VW need to lower the prices of these cars i think to make them appealing. Id3 should start at 2rroin 25k..
