THE CLIMB 2 Quest 2 Gameplay & First Impressions // I HATE HEIGHTS // The Climb 2 VR Vertigo

  • I hate heights. I'm terrible when it comes to flying & I really don't like being up high. So playing The Climb 2 VR is probably a terrible idea... or perhaps it's a great way to get over my fears?! Either way The Climb 2 is a VR vertigo enducing, climbing simulator with a arcade edge and it's probably one of the nicest looking VR games on the Oculus Quest / Oculus Quest 2 platform despite not quite living up to the incredible visuals of the announce trailer and promotional material. If you're a Quest or Quest 2 owner then The Climb 2 Oculus Quest exclusive status is an interesting insight into the way Facebook and Oculus are doing business; This is the headset they're focusing on right now and the quality of releases, if The Climb 2 is anything to go by, is only going to get better and better.
    You may never have played the original The Climb but chances are you have seen footage and gameplay of the mountain climbing VR game or seen people climbing in VR in realistic looking natural environments. Well The Climb 2 takes those natural landscapes and throws in some extremely pulse pounding set pieces, sends players on intricate and branching paths and also gives VR thrillseekers a more industrial landscape to scale; The skyscraper. This is probably the biggest selling point of The Climb 2 for fans of the original, this brand new cityscape The Climb VR skyscraper level is filled with amazing moments & feels like the biggest departure from the original game. Hang onto a ladder as it slips off the side of a VR skyscraper, jump to and from moving scaffolding & slide across wires connecting buildings whilst hanging hundreds of feet in the air... if you're not a fan of heights or suffer from VR vertigo then get ready to be pushed to the limit by The Climb 2.
    This The Climb 2 gameplay / The Climb 2 Quest 2 gameplay / The Climb 2 Oculus Quest 2 gameplay was captured from the easy city level & easy bay levels, there are a total of 15 different climbs in the game varying from easy to medium & finally hard. My The Climb 2 first impressions are very positive, this is one of the nicest looking Quest 2 games I've played despite the visuals not looking upto the standard of the promotional materials & I can see climbing enthusiasts & people with a competitive edge returning to The Climb 2 time and time again to better their scores & improve their times.

    This game does exactly what it says on the tin... it lets you climb things! Looks great, turns you legs to jelly & offers a lot in the way of replayability!

    I had the first Climb on my Oculus Rift, such a great game but I always thought it missed out by not having a skyscraper to climb. Hope I get another VR set to try this sometime.

      These skyscrapers are horrible, the "hard" level has one that goes right up above the clouds 🤢 its awesome but terrifying all at the same time!

    Wasn’t going to get this but gave in the end!! Much smoother action and far superior tutorial!! More “alive” than the original Quest version presumably due to the extra power of the Quest2. Gives your shoulders a real work out!!! I’m not too good with heights in real life so I actually need a bag of chalk in real life as my hands are so sweaty!!! The inclusion of skyscrapers is a nice touch otherwise much ch the same gameplay.

      Yeah, seems a lot of dev’s these days do this! I’ve seen other games which do it that isn’t even let the viewer know that it’s taken form PC. I think Ubisoft was accused of this during the launch of Watchdogs 1 some years back.

    Hey there! I don't know if you will see this comment but would you say VorpX is worth it? I am looking into it and watching tons of your videos and it looks really awesome being able to play mostly any screen game in VR. Are the visuals just as immersive as looking into a "built-up-for-VR" game? Does it look 3D or flat? Thanks for your awesome content!

  • @BlackMarketHoney

    I read a comment today that you can turn FFV off in sidequest and the Climb 2 runs much better on Quest 2. FFV is on as default so the app runs on both Quest 1 and Quest 2. But it actually hinders Quest 2. I need to try this out !!!

    Hey Ben I’m not a doctor (so I’m 100% qualified to say this 🤣) but you should very winded towards the end. Remember your feet are planted on the ground IRL.
    Although if you were to be suspended in the air while playing that would make this game much more realisticish

    I'm surprised that TH-camrs don't seem to be pointing out that contrary to the promise in the Oculus blog post dated 18th February, " App Sharing applies automatically to all new apps in the Oculus Quest Store from this date forward.", it appears that The Climb 2, released on 4th March, does not offer App Sharing.
    I bought it a couple of days ago and have played it for a few hours. When I checked the secondary account on the same headset, it's not there.
    Very disappointing.

    You do know that you get better graphics when linked to PC. So when it said in game graphics on pc, that doesn't mean just the headset. The PC version of a game usually looks better than the Quest version (if your PC is at recommended spec or above)

  • @BlackMarketHoney

    Ello Sir! Did you notice a frame in the view where the graphics are more sharpe inside the frame than out? The frame only appears to be on the left, right and bottom of the screen, and it is like the texture resolution is halved around the outside of the frame.
    All the best, Rich in Sweden.

    • @yoheurtel
      @yoheurtel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what we call fixed foveated rendering. Its aim is to maintain a good framerate. I thought Q2 games would get rid of this technique. I don't like it.

    • @BlackMarketHoney
      @BlackMarketHoney 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yoheurtel Yeah, I assumed that, but I didn't expect it. I thought that Quest 2 was powerful enough to get rid of foveated rendering. Tales from the Galaxies edge and Red Matter have managed to produce comparable graphics without foveated rendering.
      Also, there is foliage and wildlife flickering in and out of the picture as you approach it. It is pretty janky to be honest. I hope they fix it.

    • @BlackMarketHoney
      @BlackMarketHoney 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just got a response from the developer saying that they are aware of the issue and trying to fix it.

      @yoheurtel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlackMarketHoney yes it's pretty diappointing. Hope they will improve rocks texture quality too. It's very poor compared to the 1st episode.

    I have a question and an observation... when I tried ritchie's plank experience I was too afraid to even walk out on the plank. It gave me a real sense of being high up in the air. Which is why I thought the climb 2 would be absolutely amazing. But when I played the climb 2 and I looked down i get absolutely no sense of being high up in the air.. Which made the climb 2 completely boring on any of the levels I tried. I returned it. What does Ritchie's plank experience do differently than the climb 2? And why didn't Crytec do the same thing and make the climb 2 an amazing experience. Instead we just got a very boring game.

    • @BeardoBenjo
      @BeardoBenjo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very interesting point, there are moments in The Climb 2 that gave me that same feeling from Richie's, like when the ladder swings off the building etc... but ultimately I think I've become desensitised to these things in VR. The more we play the harder it's going to be to make us feel those feelings again. Have you played Richie recently? I did and I didn't feel scared at all anymore, it's fun but that original feeling is gone

    • @carcar5911
      @carcar5911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeardoBenjo yeah I played a couple of weeks ago. I think the 3d is better on ritchies for some reason. But with the climb... nothing

    I appreciate when your videos have the big bezels. I know it takes away from maximum immersion, but your videos are on the longer side and I can't always hang until the end (especially in the vorpX games, or games with a lot of movement). This is about right for comfort. Consider experimenting with having your webcam view take up more of the real estate on fullscreen games. Or maybe I should just tape up some bezels on my screen :)

    I don't know. I want to like it. Just played the 1st climb on the alps. It was ok. I'm gonna try the city next but it seems kinda boring. Its a great game to have for showing people who never played vr before.. but for a vr veteran it doesn't wow me at all. If the city level doesn't wow me I may return it.

    It looks so small. Wish it had some kind of randomised mode. Like it may be long for a vr game but still seems really short if you take it as a game generally.
