    Nobody should feel so unsafe every moment of their lives. This should be prevented and severely punished! Together with that, people should be educated since a young age to treat women as equals, as human beings and not as sexual objects.

    There are so many men in the comments going like “stahp generalizing men” “not all men” obviously not all men, there are good men out there but we are referring to a trend, a culture of men doing these things, yes not all men but enough to say that it’s a trend among men...if we say “americans love guns” well that’s certainly not true for plenty of americans, however, you can very clearly tell that there exists a gun culture in america and gun lovers are more common among americans than other nationalities

    • @sangwoo9686
      @sangwoo9686 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      howtopasstime The problem with spy cams exists in every country to varying levels. but americas gun culture is very unique among developed countries. Its completely different.

    • @howtopasstime
      @howtopasstime 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      You've got my analogy wrong. My metaphor was like men are to women as gun cultured americans are to citizens of other countries. Not all men are like that but there is a clear culture of certain attitudes

    • @sangwoo9686
      @sangwoo9686 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The lady at 1:29 -1:53 makes a lot of sense. That is the root of the problem, women are getting objectified.
    It will take some effort to change people's perception about women's equality in society especially if a woman's role in society is determined by religion, culture or tradition.
    The solution is to have someone do an electronic sweep for spy cams after the bathroom has been cleaned. Commuters need to actively do their part to discourage these activities by taking immediate action if they see it happen in public places. It could be your mother, your girlfriend, your wife, your sister, or even your daughter. Think about it

      A lot of comments here trying to be clever. I think there is several things that makes this so common in both Japan and Korea and not the rest of the world. I think both countries have an issue with the older people being very conservative and still sees women as they did 50 years ago. I also think the porn production is one of the factors... I mean most countries tend to search for porn from their own country, but how would you feel if most of the Korean porn is basically korean-americans and so on. Same goes for Japan with their blurred genitals. Spy cams got both of the missing parts from those countries and It sounds reasonable to me that this is one of the issues. Reporting, having government censor internet, giving longer jail time, limit cam manufactures doesn't solve even a fraction of it.

  • @multeyemeteor
    @multeyemeteor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +97

    My ex, who is from Seoul, has told me a lot about this situation, and I'm happy something is finally being done about it, if nothing else than at least to spread awareness about the issue. However, you can't help but sense the despair in the voices of these poor women, who has to live in their own country as a sort of exploitable second class citizens. South Korea has a lot of things going for it culturally and as a country, but it really needs to do something about the rampant mysogyny and every day suppression of women. Once you start noticing it, you really do see signs of it everywhere in Korea, and it's nothing short of horrifying.

    • @multeyemeteor
      @multeyemeteor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      For sure, but probably not on this scale in most countries. And are you trying to say that SK doesn't have a problem with misogyny?

    • @winonaooh-na-na6908
      @winonaooh-na-na6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not denying that there's misogyny in SK. The act of spying on people getting naked, or having sex without their consent is 'Voyeurism' wich is a considered a mental illness. Maybe the fact that it's such an epidemic could be sexism, but not every man that's misogonistisc does this sort of thing. I hope they get harsher legal punishment

    • @multeyemeteor
      @multeyemeteor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      To consider this as mere "voyeurism" is a decoy, and to consider "voyeurism" as mental illness is a not only a fundamental misunderstanding of the human psyche, it's also a denial of the fact that the issue being discussed in the video, is a significant problem that needed addressing yesterday, not just tomorrow. It's not a matter of harsher punishments, it's a matter of a culture that stretches into law enforcement and courts that does not take the concerns of 50% of their citizens seriously. I've witnessed first hand what it's like to be with someone, who got sued for voicing her concerns online about a company working together with well known misogynist content creator. It is severely stressful and it's a tax on your time, money, and life in general. There is no help from the system, only blame and skepticism, and the burden of proof is always on the woman. You can't compare that to the rest of the world. Most parts of the developed world is not governed by people, who apply different standards for different genders. Everyone, not least of all the women of South Korea, should be able to expect much better from their government and their police.

    South Korea isn't the only country to have the mandatory function of the shutter sounding when using the camera. It's also in Japan, whether you take a photo, video or screenshot (from your phone); it's been that way (in Japan) for a long time. So (in contrast to the opinion of other viewers) I think the unbanning of pornography (in South Korea) is NOT a solution. Don't get me wrong. (For various reasons) I do think the ban should be lifted. If so, it may lead to these crimes being committed less; however, to think that the increase of these crimes is because of the ban on pornography isn't right. Take Japan, for example. They have no such ban, but these types of crimes are still very much being committed. So much so that they have the same law for requiring mobile phones' cameras to produce a shutter sound (whenever used).
    Also, I hope there will be more people like the man in the black shirt @8:48 . Thank you, sir!

      Ferdikinns Japanese porn is very popular in Korea so maybe these perverts are getting these ideas from there? Also production of porn is illegal in Korea so some Korean men must be missing x rated videos of Korean girls and so making them using spy cams?!

      I wouldn't say it's the "only" solution, but it's one solution that very much needs to start being implemented; I completely agree with you as these types of crimes are being taken too lightly. Not only crimes of sexual harassment on women (and men, though not as common), but crimes against another person's general physical and mental well-being are being given much lighter punishments than you'd think.

      A lot of Japanese people come to Korea but the purpose of some of them is not sightseeing. It is said that Japan invented Spy Cam Porn. I saw Japanese men repeatedly arrested for installing spy cam in Korea.
      Japan still uses the Rising Sun Flag. The Rising Sun flag was the flag symbolizing the Japanese army during the period of Japanese imperialism. The flag does mean Hakenkreuz for Asians. These prove that Japanese people have little moral. And Japan is very famous for their Porn Video. We should prevent Japanese Porn culture from breaking our social morals.

      Mademoiselle De La foret Its actually pretty reasonable. Look at Japanese porn for example. It is considered to be some of the most fetishizable porn of any country. In Japan the genitalia must be censored by law. Japanese porn producers tried to get around these laws by creating more wild and fetishized porn and gave birth to things such as the bukake, tentacle porn, chikan, etc.

    I think that the dehumanization and objectification of women through porn contributes a large part to this, especially when that's where these videos are uploaded. Men see that lots of other men do it and see women not as people, but as sex objects that exist in life for them. Even though it's illegal to produce porn there, the Internet existing means viewing is incredibly easy.

    Wow, this made my heart hurt. I hope men and women in Korea will rise up and create change and understanding by sharing their stories and connecting to each other as people. When sex is understood as just a physical act, people can be perceived as just sexual objects. Sex always involves the whole person and that why abuses like this are so incredibly damaging. Those who think sex is just all just a itch being scratched or something to callously engage in don't understand the damage they do to themselves and others. Porn's harmful affects are widely and well documented in many many studies. I wish these affects could be commonly understood and acknowledged, as with drugs. But I know that, like drugs, people will continue to go to it for a high or escape. They don't realize how it destroys a little more of themselves every time. And what it is harming will affect their ability to connect, love, respect others. It will even distort over time what is sexual attractive or stimulating, leading them to be drawn to more harmful and dangerous and extreme sex. This is all well documented in studies for many many decades.

    Prohibit small cameras from being sold. Just let people buy big ones to monitor their babies and children. Also if the cameras are for security reason and they need to be super small then they must be regulated by a government blockchain recording system where special oficial can check what is being recorded. This is very big brother and fascist and as I am writing I think its a bad idea but I don't know what else to say.

    As a person in a Western county where pornography is legal and has entered the main stream, I sympathize with those law makers. We see the harming affects of those abused and taken advantage of in the porn industry. Since there is so much, it just seems like every cam girl/boy has to be more explicit for money and so I can’t agree that porn has led to freedom of sexuality completely without major negative consequences. Plus criminals will do what they want so I think porn is being made no matter what. But at the end of the day, who gives someone the nerve to film others without consent? Pornography illegal or not does not excuse these individuals who chose to invade privacy and inflicted fear for money. Some people say that pornography being illegal is the cause for the rise of sex crimes but should we just award this selfishness by making it legal?

  • @lovelylychee2255

    Like a lot of crimes, harsher punishment isn't a good way to prevent it. Here are my takes on how to take a step further to prevent spy cams (and a lot of other crimes) and why (I will go over it pretty short):
    1. Education,

    I don't live in korea so idk what it is like studying there but i've heard it is not so great but education is the key way into society
    and prevent crimes and I believe focusing less on studying and more on relationships with family and friends and to the opposite gender will help people see each other as human beings rather than sexual objects.

    2. rehabilitation of criminals,
    something I see a lot in asia (again I don't know what it is like, I have never even been to asia, but I base my opinions from what i've seen on the internet, correct me if i'm wrong please) is that their way to prevent crimes is to punish the criminals harder rather than rehabilitate them into society and prevent them from commit crimes again.

    3. legalization of porn,
    Like a lot of westerners think right now: "How is watching someone going to the toilet sexy?" well idk but I started to think: why isn't this a problem in Europe? It's not because we are behind in technology or anything like that but rather maybe it is porn.... Maybe it is a far stretch but making it legal to watch porn will make people less interested watching someone using the toilet.

    But in the end education is the key to a good society. What do you think?

    • @anonymous05932
      @anonymous05932 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well I agree about the other two factors but legalizing porn wont do anything to help
      because spy cams are taken not just as a means of sexual desires but more as a systemic device to control and own women. and Korean guys already watch a lot of foreign porn even if its not legal in Korea. they download vpn and gain access to illegal routes to watch porn, so legalizing it wouldnt make a huge difference from the status quo.

      희범신 and then how are you going to explain the reason that there are bunch of spy cam footages of Korean women on the Internet? I’m also Korean and let’s be honest. Korea IS full of spy cam. It’s so understandable that Korean women don’t want to go to public bathroom because of spy cam. You can easily find Korean men laughing at some random Korean women doing their business in public bathroom, leaving some sexually humiliating comments, and they feel kind of superiority. And I also witnessed a Korean man recording on the inside of a woman’s skirt right behind her on the escalator. Do you think Korean women are afraid of something that doesn’t really exist?

    • @alright478
      @alright478 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      정은재kk I’m so sorry but I can’t easily find that sort of Korean men. DO NOT generalize that Korean men do that things you mentioned. Do you know some women superiorism websites in Korea also have many spy shots of korean men and humiliate about it? then how are you going to explain the reason? The key point is the rates of spy cam crimes must be decreased, not distinghish between men and women. Do you agree?

    • @AngieJ-s1r
      @AngieJ-s1r 6 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      희범신 the reason you don’t find that sort of men easily is because you are not that interested in the victims, which the majority is women. You should do your research well. Seriously, do you really not agree that Korean women are suffering much more from spy cam crimes? And speaking of those women superiorism sites you mentioned and what they’ve done, well, if Korean men hadn’t started, nothing would’ve happened. They are just doing exactly the same thing. But I definitely agree that the rate of spy cam crimes must be decreased, regardless of gender. :)

    Probably wouldn't happen as much if porn wasn't illegal in South Korea. Making things people enjoy illegal will not eliminate them, only drive those industries underground to be as shady and immoral as possible. Porn, drugs, prostitution, gambling, the story is always the same.

    It is not only Korea. In Japan, all camera and phone brands of Japanese version are required to have shuttering sounds which cannot be disabled in accordance to Japanese law. The reason is to prevent secret filming and guarantee privacy for the individual. It is rude to take a photo in the public without asking for the person's permission. Japanese people in general value privacy very much.

      yes, the feminist mentality is really maddening. to them, everything negative that affect women is due to the patriarchy. and is insulting to perverts. not that I would do something as stupid as to risk my freedom by recording women in the toilet, but I sometimes fap to hidden cam videos, and is not because I think women are objects or inferior (I am hardcore egalitarian) but it is because spying footage sometimes turns me on depending on the content.

  • @chinigirlX3

    Wow the shutter sound really surprised me, which means this issue is not just a small trend but a real deep lying issue. This is horrible. I don’t have anything against porn or when couples record themselves having sex as they all agreed to be filmed. Generally, people in the videos or pictures should know about being photographed. They should be able to give consent. Else is a violation of their basic human rights. No one should be allowed to pry into someone else’s privacy like this and even be able to make so much money with it. There are cases like this all over the world and many victims couldn’t live with the shame and even took their lives because of this. It’s just horrible all in all.
