Listen to EVERYTHING Anna says. I stopped using polish in April 2023, filed down nails and use jojoba and almond oils 5 to 7 times a day. By Aug. 2023, my nails are in best shape. Still keep them short, no polish , use oils daily and soak in warm oils 2 times a month.

Based on Anna's videos, I remove polish weekly and give my nails a day's break. While bare, I soak them in a blend of warm jojoba, sweet almond and squalane oils. I also use glass nail tools and files (Germanikure & Mont Bleu). The process has transformed my nails. They're strong, flexible and never break or peel. As for the skin, I have for years applied a dab of L'Occitane Shea butter or drops of J Maran's Argan oil to the proximal nail fold each time I wash my hands. At night before donning cotton gloves, I apply Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream around my nails and Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream to my hands. My hands and nails are in great shape. Anna also provides practical, useful advice for long-term care and health. Love her!

Anna, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with "pushing" the service. You provide a TON of information for free and one can spend the time and find an advice which will help free of charge. If a person demands you to spend time on their particular case, they should use your paid service. It's fair

It was only today that I found you. So far, I've learned from some of your other videos that I don’t need to grate on my nails like I'm grating nutmeg. You really didn't say much in the other video (that I adore) but after watching you file, I noticed you didn't take the sharp corners and file them at a crazy angle (I did, I won't anymore) and you filed gently until you achieved the shape, meaning the outcome was way better than I have ever been able to achieve. Plus, I noticed you have patience with working toward the shape, whereas I would just file fast and at too sharp of an angle, which would lead me to over filing, creating the wrong shape. Seriously, it was the first and only video that actually taught me how to file my nails. This was only today. Plus, the beautiful music that was played during the video didn't create any anxiety and actually made me want to watch it again and again. You are truly a professional & an outstanding educator. I look forward to seeing you in my feed because I subscribed. Hahaha, I also bounced on over to Amazon and put stuff in my basket to remind me. I hope you have had a lovely holiday season and have a prosperous new year!!

I always had weak (thin and bendy) nails because of a genetic disorder, but since 4-5 months after I had Covid the first time, they have been peeling horribly, along with the skin around my nails and on the tips of my fingers cracking and peeling. It got better about 4-5 months later, then a few months after getting Covid again, it happened again. And now I'm on my third round of dealing with post-Covid nail disease, and the recovery is going much faster using your tips on maintaining the health of the skin and nails. (I also had hair loss after my first bout of Covid.)

Hi there! I used to have nails that were very weak and were always peeling. I started doing the warm oil soak some months ago and my nails are longer than they have ever been before! They barely ever peel anymore, all thanks to the weekly soaks and also the fact that I regularly apply oil on my nails throughout the day. Thanks for the very (!) helpful advice 🫶

I have yellow nails which I then buffed to death, also tried to bleach the yellow away 😮, so they all split and peeled off (so embarrassing). Then I found your channel and you changed everything! I know why my nails are yellow, I have been using CND rescue, Kerasal daily, plus squalane oil that has been in my cupboard. Keep them short, file 1x/week, round them, no buffing. Woah, I can’t believe how much they’re improving already. Thank you!!! ❤

Time and consistency helped my nails that were damaged, I suspect, from use of nail polish strips. I stopped using them and started using kerasel, nudging back cuticles and using oil on my nails every chance I remember to. My nails remain very ridgy, age related per my dermatologist, but they look and feel so much better but it has taken about a year of doing this to get to this point. In that time I have only used nail polish once for a special occasion. Thanks for all your helpful advice!

I have very thin, ridgy, splitting and peeling nails with often torn skin on the side. The tiniest unevenness or dryness can lead to splitting etc. I ALWAYS file with a buffer file especial for polishing. Everything else left the edge of my nails uneven. Also I try to moisturise a lot. A lotion with 10% urea is helpfull especially with the torn, corn skin. I love your channel and your tips! You are a blessing for people like me.

Hello! I hope you both you, Mrs. and Mr Salon had a Merry christmas!! I just wanted to thank you!! I'm a 37 yo woman, i have been biting my nails out of anxiety since i was 7 yo and thanks to therapy i understood that biting the skin surrounding the nails was a self destructive behaviour (i ended up with bleeding fingers, even infections sometimes, and that made my nails with bridges due to the damage). I have tried multiple times to stop biting and picking my nails and fingers, but even when i was able to stop for a time, it was super sad to see my nails always brittle, weak from the flaking, and with ridges. I thought it was just a me thing, thant my hands were not worth making manicure on them or using cute nail polishes. Something that was never going to change. Due to have my fingers always ugly, i have an automatic reflex of hiding my hands if i detect some one is looking at them). I have always felt there was nothing for me to do, and just maintain my nails as short as possible to avoid the flaking.
This until thanks to therapy i decided to try yet again. This way i reached your channel, and have been close to 6 months i was able to stop biting (i pick ocasionally without realizing). I binged your care videos and followed all your advice with lots of hope!!
    And my nails are strong!
I even get surprised they grow so fast hehe. since before just by detecting growth, i started the biting making them short at the limit.
My fingers are healed and my hands look great! i still cant believe these are my hands!! I'm so happy!!
    Thank you so much!!!
My favourite nailpolish is Dancing Queen from catrice. The glitter not having really small particles (not like the metallic colors), takes the attention to the bridges away, and is very forgiving if you have little practice applying the polish bc afraid of putting it unevenly. Sad that is difficult to obtain nowadays, but i bought 4 bottles so i can wear it often.

On one of your other videos I learned things that saved my nails. I used to buff the ones that had ridges, and stopped doing so. My right pointer finger and two thumb nails kept splitting. I started putting jojoba oil on every night. Sometimes I warmed it and sometimes not. After about 2-3 weeks I noticed a change. A couple of months later splitting is not a problem. You could put the oil on right before watching TV and sit and let it sink in if doing it at bedtime is not an option.

1 drop of oil is never oily. People apply way too much oil and wait for the oil to soak in.
Apply 1 drop to all your nails, spread it on your hands and wipe off the excess. Your hands will not be oily.
Here, in this 3 min video I show how:

I've been doing my own nails since I was eight. I have learned so much from Anna: I do warm oil soaks (I use coconut oil) at least once a week since her video came out in May 2022, use oil as a hand moisturizer (I use coconut oil), I push my cuticles back every night - gently ! (I never used to be gentle on my nails - what a dope) - after washing my hands and using coconut oil for a moisturizer, I use Kerasal each night on my nails, and I use CeraVe Healing Ointment after my coconut oil moisturizer because I get so dry. Over this past summer I cut my nails before filing them for the first time in years - they were supple from all the coconut oil and didn't break and chip and split. I often do the warm oil soak more often than once a week because I live in the northeast and it gets very dry with the air-conditioning in the summer and the heat in the winter.
Question for Anna: Would jojoba oil be better than coconut oil? Why? I know you like Jojoba the best, but could you explain why? Thank you for all that you do! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

If I recall correctly, jojoba is the most similar to our natural body oil, and therefore it is better absorbed by the body (nails).

If You are using jojoba, avocado or fractionated coconut, these are among the most stable oils with long shelf life. Assuming You avoid contamination, reusing a few times should be fine. Overheated or oxidised oil is not likely to cause major damage, but it can become slightly irritating to the skin, so there will be no benefit either. If Your oil starts to smell like stale nuts or crayons, toss it out. Also if You notice any suspicious changes in colour or texture. Hope, this is useful - best of success with Your nails :)

I think I can help - I used Mavala Scientific, the original, for years and I couldn't understand why the tips of my nails were still cracking and breaking. I would also use different kinds of hardeners sometimes and it wasn't until I started watching Anna's videos that I realized that these things were totally wrong for my nails because they're hard and brittle. I got rid of them and started using oil and paying more attention to moisturizing - very rich creams, including with urea and Kerasal ointment at night. I also switched to crystal nail files and just tried to be much more gentle with my manicures overall. It's taken time for the damage to grow out but it's working. She's right when she says that you have to be patient.

Good info here, thank you! Is there a way to know if my nails are too hard or too soft? Can you tell by looking at them? My nails are splitting /stress cracking. I am keeping them so short so I’m not sure if they are hard or soft. I don’t buff nails.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Looking at them is not very accurate. Nail should be able to bend a bit and then bounce back easily. When you can bend the nails with ease they might be too soft or damaged. If they don't budge they are hard and can be brittle. Thick nails are usually hard.

Anna recommends to file your nails short and do warm oil soaks weekly in addition to applying oil throughout the day. Took mine about 4 months for damaged nails to grow out. I kept them filed down without polish. Anna has taught all of us so much! Simple solutions. It just takes time. Be patient! You are sooooo worth it!!!

I really can't say much myself about your situation, but I noticed a big improvement on my nails when I also introduced vitamin D and E supplements into my dietary needs.
I later found out from my doctor I was significantly deficient in Vit D and suddenly it made sense why
I noticed a big difference when I started addressing the internal with the external.
I hope you find a solution to your needs.

Hi, my name is Patsy. I was wondering if using any kind of oil, even baby oil would work for my nails doing a warm oil treatment. Or do you specifically need to get and use jojoba oil. My nails are thin , brittle, ridges, peeling and seem dry.

Hi Patsy, for the purpose of plasticising the nails jojoba (it's actually a liquid wax) is best, I explain why in this video th-cam.com/video/io335eWf6R4/w-d-xo.html

Can jojoba oil soaks be done with sally Hansen miracle nail on? I am getting some results for my peeling and cracked nails by using CND keratin jojoba oil application. Thank you for your advice.

Would a hardener help with splitting toe nails also?

Depending why the nail is splitting. Sometimes (often) hardeners are not a good idea.

And as Anna says, PATIENCE! Does anyone have a system for making the oil soaks more user-friendly? I use two tiny bowls so I can do both hands at once. Then when I'm done, I rub the oil from my finger tips on my hands. I pour the remaining oil back into the bottle and wipe any remainder in the bowls onto my feet! It seems such a process but it worth it. Maybe I shouldn't be so obsessed with using up the oil...what do you do?
