    Great info, thanks. I've seen this in a number of old Seikos. On many (though not all) there's a 'ghost' mark on the date wheel where the old teeth have left a slight mark. Sometimes you need to move it around a little to get the light to reflect just right, to see it. That can be useful in re-aligning the teeth...

    I was literally just about to ask about this in the FB group. All my Seiko's seem to suffer from this, so next time I'm under the dial I'll give it a go.

    I enjoyed that, luckily all my Seiko auto's have good alignment but have bookmarked this for down the line as have moved seriously into Seiko group for my collection. Last video I showcased an extremely rare Pulsar YM62 chronograph and have another I need to acquire a hand set for and have been talking with Seiko in Japan. Also nabbed a super rare Seiko 8V20 which is the original "dancing hands" watch, real grail in my list.
    Yesterday I evicted a Slava tank auto and a Sekonda "square TV" Soviets from my naughty box, both now working super super well, tonite will be either the Pulsar YM92 Swarovski removement or my Molnija Reglateur broken stem removal attempt. The latter being a pocket watch in a wrist case, you can drop a bridge off and gain access to the keyless works without having to dismantle the whole movement... bloody clever these Soviets lol

    Good little Video Mike ,well done. The other day I had a Seiko day wheel which was just off a fraction. managed to realign by by adjusting the the tension on the jumper spring. it worked OK. But bearing in mind the day wheel was only a fraction out. Any more and I don't think tweaking the the jumper would work.

    This dial has 3 "inspection ports" on it. I believe 2 of those ports should show a star tooth perfectly centered. The other port I think is to check the operation of the day corrector, which is operated by pushing the crown all the way in to quick-set the day.

    The problem with superglue is that when it fails ( and it eventually will, just like the factory daydisk does) little flakes of dried superglue get released into the mechanism. Even on the calendar side these could halt the movement - far more serious than the original issue.

    • @MyRetroWatches

      Yes but to be fair I rarely practice this as once it’s changed over within 30 minutes of that it’s well clear of anything.
      It’s mainly 6119 & 6309 that i see both fingers made of nylon.

  • @eduardosuarez2414
    @eduardosuarez2414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I spent ages trying to bend the day jumper spring on a 7009 because I thought that was the reason for the misalignment. Eventually I worked out that the star could be moved. Then I tried it another 7009, thinking that must be the reason for the day misalignment on that one, but the star was solid, no movement at all. Then I remembered that it was a 4 o'clock crown and I had been aligning the date window at the wrong spot.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easily done. I have lots of donor date wheels but I never wrote on the bag what position they were so can become quite entertaining!

  • @happyfeet133
    @happyfeet133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Really useful to know this (many thanks) - particularly given, as I was watching it, I thought to myself "I wonder if I could use a dot of superglue to hold things in place" and then you even went and answered that question!

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure the pro will say different but it worked for me years ago and it’s not a component that would effect the running of a watch.
      Whatever works on my opinion.

    hello sir. any chances on doing this tweak on 3 o'clock nh36 to be 3.8 o'clock without changes to new day disc or swap from 7s26?

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      7S26 do not have an adjustable gear as its all moulded as one on the day wheel.

    Is it possible to move the day wheel while it is in place to line it up with the date?

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be possible but you have to hold the disc and turn the gear plus you will get resistance from the spring.
      For what it takes to remove and refit it’s hardly worth it.

    • @Sergeant_Fury
      @Sergeant_Fury 3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @KOhcl
    @KOhcl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about misaligned date?

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never seen that. The date wheel has its own mechanism and driven by parts from the dial side of the movement. If a date is dramatically out on a vintage Seiko then it’s most likely got the wrong wheel installed.
      Seiko come with crowns at 3 and 4 and this makes a big difference to the date wheel as they are not compatible

  • @bauertime
    @bauertime 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The day wheel did not turn over when you turned to 12. It still showed Sat.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The day never changes at 12 it’s always a little bit after. In hindsight I should have kept winding on for an hour. It’s the way the date and day fingers line up with the gearing to change it over. On these old Seikos it’s never at exactly the same time

    • @jakelewis3d
      @jakelewis3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyRetroWatches yep, this is done to spread out the load on the train of rotating both discs at once. Even so, there is still a drop in amplitude over this time.
