- About 1,000 UK jobs are at risk at Dyson as part of a global restructure.
The firm, best known for the invention of the bagless vacuum cleaner, said the decision was made amid fierce competition in global markets.
The move would ensure Dyson is "prepared for the future", CEO Hanno Kirner said, adding it will be supporting those at risk of redundancy.
Dyson has 3,500 UK employees and offices in Wiltshire, Bristol and London.

Remember, this is a man who was pushing for Brexit.
I don't think that had anything to do with it. As I believe they were discussing the move many many years before brexit.
Don’t cry about Brexit. Dutch politicians almost pushed ASML out of our country due to something that caused higher costs for ASML. NL is still in Europe and they are destroying the country by impossible bureaucracy for bigger companies. What happens? They (tend to) leave the country. Not only due to leaving Europe.
@@luuk6718 ASML are extremely unhappy. Their biggest market was China, but they were banned from supplying EUV. ASML are setting up facilities in China though and it is possible they will jump ship, but their problem is they themselves rely on US technology which comes with strings attached. China could one day replace ASML's business. They sit between a rock and a hard place.
James Dyson should be embarrassed and shamed. He's so two-faced it's actually wild. One minute it's we'll stay in the UK and support Brexit and the next it's move everything to Malaysia because it's cheaper and the Singapore workers don't even know what's going on they just know how to engineer so that's ok.

Not cheaper, Labor and rental costs in Singapore are approximately 80% higher than in the UK.
He championed brexit, then buggered off when it failed. What a horrible man.
Not happy with Brexit then?
Only fools are happy with Brexit. Only fools think it's working just fine. Oh to be a fool and a tool

Exactly. He was one of the pioneer's of Brexit
Brexit? Labour government more like.

Brexit was *FOUR* years ago, and it's very telling that the Brexiteers are still speading lies and disinformation. But of course that was what the whole campaign was about, and your puppet master in the Kremlin is still rolling on the floor when he thinks about his brainless lemmings who so willfully jumped off the cliff.
Dyson products are too expensive and other brands are cheaper and just as good.

😂😂😂😂
Indeed!
Think of the pension funds!
Lowering costs, increasing sales and therefore increasing net profit is what business leaders are supposed to do. However, in the case of Dyson, he was an advocate of Brexit and all the benefits it was claimed to bring and at its core, a belief in the UK. It is this hypocrisy of James Dyson of supporting Brexit and then making decisions that suggest that he never believed in the imagined 'Brexit benefits' at all. This is what I find incredibly irritable about this man and not so much his business decisions. Although his business decisions also do reflect that he cares very little about supporting the country he was so keen to see leave the EU.
He's a brexiteer, he'd happily sell us all down the river if he could make extra

Not surprised after they moved their headquarters out of the nation.
Why would any company choose to do business in the UK with insane tax and regulation?
We are starved of industry and every government is openly hostile to it.
James Dyson is the most patriotic Brit I have ever seen. Old guy moved his company so it wont be burden for his country. 😂😂😂
Dyson, put our name on it and add £300 to the price... genius!!
Notorious pro-Brexiteer ditches the UK. Shocked I tell you, shocked. Also shocked at the quality of Dyson's vs their "are they taking the piss?" prices. No better quality than any other frankly.
We purchased a Dyson a few years ago and it was horrible. Always getting blocked up and a totally awful battery life. This man has sold poorly made products and made billions now he’s again showing his true appreciation for his home country. His wretched Hoover even gave me a blister on my thumb.
We will never buy Dyson again, overly expensive, useless.
All about the Henry’s mate. They don’t actually need bags and they’ll even suck up water.
Following Dyson's decision to shift its operations offshore, it's clear that the company's commitment to the UK has wavered. Given this, anyone who continues to purchase Dyson products should reflect on their support for a company that has abandoned the country. Moreover, the recent loss of over 1,000 UK jobs is a stark reminder of the consequences of this decision. As a result, it's reasonable to suggest that the entire UK population should consider boycotting Dyson products in protest, sending a strong message that the company's actions have not gone unnoticed or unchallenged.
Oh no, anything but that. Dysons core customer base is in asia. 😐What would you do?
agreed! I’m team Henry / Shark
You should boycott corrupt Politicians who ruin the Economy which forced dyson to do these if you want real results from your boycott

This is not unique at all. Same pattern can be observed here in Europe
They need to Hoover up greater profits.😂
Expensive products that don't last long. Always found them in the garage.

What does that mean
Is Mr. Dyson just threatening the new government? Opening the bargain table.
The rich's attempt at bargaining is just: "do exactly as I say or I'll leave and/or won't invest".
I get you shouldn't just purposely anger them but their demands are completely unreasonable.
Everyone else is expected on average to pay more and accept reduced living standards. The rich go out of their way to pay people to "minimise their tax liability" (or dodge tax to you and me), and yet they still complain that their ever increasing living standards aren't increasing fast enough.
It's a disgrace. We're one of the richest countries in the world, and yet it hardly feels like it because the rich just hoard their money at the public's expense.
Half the continent has high speed rail for instance, we invented/publicised the things, have a lot milder geography than say France, Italy or Spain, and a higher GDP per capita, and yet we can't afford it and they can?
The British people are being treated like complete mugs.
After the CEO promised historically that future Singapore move would not cost jobs in the UK....
Till this day. I don't understand the people who fell into the gimmick of paying 6 times the cost of a regular fan for much weaker fan.
Dyson used to be the one most innovative in their field & charged the prices to reflect that. But in recent years, their
competitors caught up which no longer justifies the price differential. So I am not surprised that they are restructuring!
well that sucks.
That literally sucks. Blaming and punishing workers for poor management.
Maybe decling consumer interest in Dyson products has something to do with it? Cheap plastic at stainless steel prices.
Now they can become artists, actors, architects, musicians, influencers ...
I'm from Swindon in uk before brexit. Companies looked for work force desperately giving out benefits for new starts after brexit literally more than 10 companies closed down! 10 and these companies are only 10 15 minutes away from mine.
Dyson products are selling very well in Asia.
They aren't cutting it. They are moving to Singapore
I feel it would be prudent for Labour to order a thorough review of Dyson's tax record.
Go ahead, he will just shutter the rest of the workforce in the UK in response and then Labour can hand out more benefits. He will move everything to Singapore, and the people left behind will just be poor.
@@starventure So Billionaires should be beyond accountability. Got it, wash the boot polish out of your mouth, idiot.
Uk corporation tax is like 20%. Is that high? Honestly, there are robots which moo and go upstairs. I think it’s a bad move to move out of the uk.
You should add labour cost as well
UK Corp tax is currently 25% since 2023, this is the highest rate since 2011 (all time low was 2017-22 at 19%).
To answer your question, the current corp tax rate is high and 6% increase is noticeable.
Edit:
Singapore also has a lower Sales tax rate (9% vs 20%) and a lower corp tax rate (17% vs 25%).
Whoa, that really sux.
I once bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner for my mum, she hated it. So I started vacuuming for her, and I never wanted to strangle an appliance before like I did with such brilliance overburdened by so much hardware design stupidity.
Traitor!
Every major corporation will do what it can to undermine a Labour administration in Britain, exactly as they undermine Democratic ones in the U. S. Whether by manipulating job growth numbers, or the price of fuel, or by denying fast-track negotiation authority, for just a few examples-economic outcomes are, largely, bought and paid for. Nothing has changed for the worse in the British economic landscape since the election to legitimately blame on the new prime minister, but job growth numbers will be used to paint him as inept-unless he comes to an agreement with the owners.
See I always assumed Mr Dyson didn't want people to buy his products which is why he prices his products at a stupidly high price. Didn't realise he was trying to sell them with that said maybe he should put the cost of his products at a more reasonable/realistic/competitive price and he may make some pennies and be able to pay his staff.

Every business focuses on profit. UK's corporate legalities are too much for a business to be sustainable. SEA has cheaper labor, closer to suppliers, better market. It has every benefit a consumer business would want. I think any business is doomed to fail if they don't see that. Dyson sees it and goes along with that direction. it's a win in all angles. Many other western companies also do so.

He just used all these things as excuses for the company's failure to compete.
Don't blame James Dyson - it makes sense to move to Asia - after all - there is the ASIAN block - which is like the EU - but England has left the EU....and consequently reduced marketing opportunities - so ASEAN offers better sales opportunities. Also, UK laws hamper businesses, as opposed to helping them. I think you'll see more companies fleeing the UK...used to be good...but not anymore - especially when 1:3 work applicants fail drug tests - and the level of education in the UK is appalling! 🤔🤔🤔
The way to deal with the likes of Dyson is to veto his products.
