    Thanks for this. Was quoted over $300 at dealership after they did a multi point inspection. Honestly I don’t think the belt even needed replacing. Took me about 15 mins and $18

    Thanks for the video, and the belt diagram, it was really helpful! I wish my new belt went on this easy as this, but that was not the case. After a couple of hours of struggling, I ended up putting a screw in the hole in the tensioner to keep it open, then removing it. Then putting the new belt on, and then reinstalling the tensioner. That worked.

    I have a 2014 4 cyl. I replaced the belt today using this great technique (I moved the crank clockwise to finish the install). I had opened the tensioner almost all the way and used a bungee cord between the battery bracket, around the pipe extended on the 14 mm wrench holding it mostly open, so I had 2 hands available. I got the belt on all but the water pump pulley. Then I started squeezing the belt onto the water pump pulley. I got it part way on then I started slowly rotating the crank clock wise using an American 7/8" wrench. (it was bigger than 19mm). That finished the job that I could not get done without this technique.

    Oh. That's not too bad. I was looking for an adjustment bolt to relieve belt tension, but I guess this engine doesn't have one, just the belt tensioner spring.

      I struggled to put the new Gates Micro-V K060494 belt on with no success. The original belt looked good at 100K miles, so I put it back on. Even that wasn't easy, but the new belt was impossible. I must not be getting the new belt perfectly on the crank-ac-alt pulleys, because everyone else seems to be doing this replacement just fine. Maybe I'll try again later or just pay the dealer $230 to do it (which I hate to do).
      Update 2/2/2024: With the help of my brother holding the belt tensioner while I installed the belt, I was able to successfully get the new belt installed. It took less than two minutes to remove the old belt and install the new one. It makes a big difference having two people to do this job.

      @@paulwalrath5099. I had trouble with gates also. I put on all the pulleys except compressor. Make sure you feed belt on TOP of compressor pulley and then crank starter a quarter turn (don’t allow engine to run) and see if feeds all the way on pulley. The starter will turn the pulley toward the front of car and feed the belt on the pulley. Let the starter do the work. Hope this helps.

    I only have about 24,500 miles on by 2015 toyota (got it brand new in 2015 and don't drive much) and was recently told by the dealer that my belt shows some glazing and red "failed" their inspection standards when they checked it out during my oil change. They did not mention any cracking or fraying. They recommend replacing. Is this something I should take seriously? Also, I thought this wouldn't need replacing until much higher mileage. GuidedOne 4 cylinders have timing chain. If you look at your timing cover, and it’s metal, then it’s chain, if it’s plastic, it’s timing belt. Your serpentine belt is for your accessories, your timing chain is for the engine gears.

    Just had the serpentine belt replaced on my 2012 Camry at the Toyota dealer. Cost around $200.00! Ouch! (and that was with a discount). Had I known it would be this easy to replace the belt, I would have done it myself. Thought it was more difficult like my 2002 Camry which involved jacking the front of the car, removing the tire, wheel well panels, etc., just to access the tensioner.

    This is not an easy job! I tried your technique for an hour and no avail. Next up the old belt goes back on to see if it is a belt problem. Otherwise, it's going to get towed to the mechanic.

      @@NutzAboutBolts I finally got it. In order to get there, I went back to the original belt just to eliminate the new belt as the source of the problem. If this went on, this at least gave me a recovery option. Fortunately, it worked, so I then went back to the new belt applying what I learned. With some struggle I finally managed to get the new belt on. It did require some finesse, but your video was exactly right.

      I took a similar route. Couldn't get the new belt on. With great struggle, I was able to put the old belt back on. I had fears of having to trailer my car to the shop. If I work up the courage sometime, I might give it another try. I'm glad to see you had success on your second try. For me, it might just be worth the $230 to have the shop do it. I must say, replacing the serpentine belt on my 1992 Chevy Silverado 5.7L V8 was trivial taking less than a minute. In the Camry, visibility is limited and so is space for your arms.
      Update 2/2/2024: With the help of my brother holding the belt tensioner while I installed the belt, I was able to successfully get the new belt installed. It took less than two minutes to remove the old belt and install the new one. It makes a big difference having two people to do this job.

      Thats not according to what AlldataDIY says. My 2014 Camry only has one belt. I also have to get a shorter belt because the OEM will be too loose. Thats after talking to Mechman. AlldataDIY also has the belt diagram and the part number so.....

    Shit, my belt is squeaking. Man, I hate working on my car. I extremely tempted to have a mechanic do this. It doesn't look too bad to replace so I guess I'll give it a whirl. According to your diagram of the pulley's, is the water pump the easiest way to put the belt on last, or is there another pulley easier.

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Water pumps the easiest because the pulley is smooth when sliding it on. Make sure to have a good leverage when pulling the tensioner so it’ll be easier to remove and installing the belt. This job takes about 5 mins.

    Its not because of the grooves, Its because the back of the belt is groove-less and that side of the belt is in contact with the water pump pulley, which also has no grooves.
