Thank you for this video! This is the easiest, clearest, option to hang sail shades that I’ve come across and it’s nice to see another woman who like to build things. I do most of the home improvements in my home which surprises people sometimes since I’m a woman. I love building and fixing things and started when I was a little kid, taking my toys apart and rebuilding them for fun😂.
I’ve found two solutions… Don’t tighten the shade sail too much, Or use some 18” rebar with a ‘j’ bend as anchors to tie down / secure the pole/planter box
having narrow planters could create an unstable condition when tight. If you use a wider planter that's maybe not as tall would spread the concrete out and create a stable condition...
Do you have the shades all year round? You didn't put any stain on the wood. Will it crack over time due to weather or bend? Do you have any recommendations for it?
We take the shade down when we aren't on the patio. The wood is pressure-treated so it doesn't need to be painted or stained. But staining is an option to make it more attractive or match existing surfaces! ~Chelsea
I used 2 bags per planter. The bag has directions for how much water, but you can eyeball it to a consistency slightly more watery than pancake batter.
Hi Rachel, they are from Target. I will warn that they are glass bulbs which is less than ideal but they are inexpensive!! Hang and then attach bulbs. Here's an affiliate link: goto.target.com/3PWQ7v
Awsome! Love the lights.
We mounted a tv to our post without drilling using the ZeboZAP and with the lights the entire backyard rocks🔥🔥🔥
Love your ideas

Fantastic idea for a back yard garden area, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS. GONNA TRY TO MAKE THIS A PROJECT IN THE FUTURE.
PERFECT... This will not only take care of shade, but where to hang my bird feeders!
This is great and cost effective too!! Thanks for sharing!!! We love your tips!!!
Thanks Susan!
I am so inspired this summer to do work on my backyard, love this. One thing i may try is staining the beams, but great job. Subbed
Awesome ideas!!!
Great idea 👍
Great job!!
Does it sag after awhile with only 2 bags of concrete I’m guessing the tension wasn’t enough for the shade sail to stay tight?
How has this held up
With wind? Do the planters tip over?
I have the exact same question
Loved it, Thanks for the detailed list of items used
My question is if you tighten your shade up to your planters turn over?

Really dumb question, and honestly - it’s because I am clueless, lol. With that big of a planted, would sand not hold the post in??
Could you use plastic planters or does it have to be wood?
Looks great
How has this held up? I am thinking of trying this myself but will likely need to take down the sail when it raining or windy.
Placing the pole side 1-2 feet shorter will allow the rain to run off the shade.
How tall was the wooden post?
Im working on it. Thx so much.
Nice!!

Hello. How many bags of concrete per planter did you use? Also how did you know how much water to use for the mix?
I used 2 bags per planter. The bag has directions for how much water, but you can eyeball it to a consistency slightly more watery than pancake batter.
Way too windy where I live for this
Hi, where did you get the lights that are able to clip onto the shade?

Hi! Where did you get your planters from? Thanks!
Lowe's
@@Checkinginwithchelsea Thank you!
Do you have a link to the planters?
They don't seem to be sold at Lowe's anymore.😔
Can you share the dimensions of the planters?
What size sail is this?
12 x 16
That’s totally gonna hold rain. Prob pull planters over. I mean that’s the reality
$200? The shade was a hand me down!
