The power and range of his voice is great. He was absolutely a perfect vocalist for a band like TOTO. He also has/had a charity for rescuing homeless dogs.
This kind of reminds me of my grandma in the earliest stages of dementia. Her mind would skip around and she'd tell stories of the old days, but any short term memory would be hard to remember. He sounds so enthusiastic about his life. Very heartwarming. You will always be the voice of Toto, Bobby! One of the greatest voices in rock history.
He really is a great guy! When he called me from L.A. almost 2 years ago, we already had an interview. My mistake: I did not record it on audio... But: we met with each other in April 2018, so that was much better than an interview on the telephone. As for me, I can say: he is a wonderful interview partner although he didn't response to each of questions ...
I’m so sad. Watched a video of him and soon noticed all these old hater comments in other videos regarding him, one even parodying him, something about memes. I just want to cry. He is a musician, a singer, singing in loud arenas for a great deal of his life so of course he has hearing loss. Now it’s said he may be in the early stages of Dementia. Please people leave the man alone. Please people, respect his family. We all love you Bobby. You sing with so much passion and love and your true fans are sending you all of our love and support as I type myself included.
Whats crazy is that I was raised and still living in Vinton Louisiana and I was mind blown when I found that the lead singer of toto was raised here. My grandmother actually graduated with him as well
Amazing voice so much soul. I've always loved Bobby Kimball's voice in TOTO, I never heard him speak before. He's so cool and has so many interesting stories. How cool, thank you for posting this.
oooooh yeah: 'you are the flower' is one of my favorite TOTO songs ever!!! Brilliant at all! Especially Bobby's voice. Bobby performed absolutely gorgeous! Listen to that voice, absolutely amazing! And as you know, it's the singer, not the song! Bobby forever!
That's my favorite Toto album too... although every one of then has nostalgic mood of their own, Hydra's my favorite. It has a medieval vibe to it.. almost fairytale like.
What accent does he speak with ? He is such an approachable , great guy . Prayers and love to him and his family. He has left an outstanding body of work for all of us to forever enjoy.
I saw that tour at the Fox in Atlanta, 7th row. Bobby sat out front with his leg sticking out and put on the show of his life. I've been to a LOT of shows, but this has stayed in the top 5 for my lifetime.
i have a brother like bobby, he'll start telling a story about one subject and 3 seconds later, he swings over to a different story before finishing the original story. back in the mid to late 80's my brother and i would smoke weed together but i had to stop that, he would just keep talking and talking and it ended up becoming a huge buzzkill. now i can't even talk to him on the phone, he starts yelling and i can't understand a word he says. that's why i like smoking weed alone these days.
Remember when watching this poor Bobby is suffering from dementia and hearing loss, it probably started happening long before this interview. It must have been terrifying for him, a singer, hence the false bravado. I wish him well his voice is on many timeless classics.
True! Sometimes it wasn't easy for me to proceed my interview as I planned my questions to him. - Especially because my native language is German. Hope you like that interview anyway :-)
"He (Luke) plays with the drummer for the Beatles...(long pause)". Bobby had to be reminded of Ringo's name! So sad. Still one of the greatest vocalists in Rock history! It is absolutely criminal that Toto isn't in the Rock and Roll HOF!
He just seems like he likes to talk, he seems able to recall alot of details from things that happened very long ago. Maybe because he's old he doesn't seem so sharp. But he is fun to listen to.
@@ZenyattaFan1 it seems the dementia started around this time. He doesn't really answer questions in this interview, just kinda starts rambling about unrelated things.
@@Jensmusiclover Jens, I get the idea most interviewers have to work to bring out the words - but I definitely got the idea you were a bit taken aback by the flood of words! Bobby had a strange relationship with the band : on one hand he was the vocal cornerstone of the band, he was THE voice of Toto... but on the other hand it seems he's never been in perfect terms with the band, even in the early years...
Bobby says here that the guy who joined after he left (Fergie Fredericksen) was from Louisiana, but Fergie is from Grand Rapids, MI. Was there a singer we don't know about?
I think he alludes to the fact that Fergie was with LeRoux, a Louisiana based band, before he joined Toto. During Fergie's tenure I think they were recording in Los Angeles though.
Bobby sang with musicians in Louisiana that later went on to form Leroux. Leroux had some national success but the singer, Jeff Pollard, found Jesus and was replaced by Fergie who isn't from Louisiana. Fergie later went on to replace Bobby in Toto. The commonality is they both were associated with the Louisiana band Leroux. And, Bobby is from Vinton in south west La.

Ok, I don’t know about you, but I find this interview slightly disturbing. This is not the Bobby Kimball I’ve seen interviewed before. There’s something going on there, perhaps a form of dementia, as others have mentioned, or something else. The rambling and shaggy-dog stories point to something going on. He’s in his 70s, so maybe that’s to be expected, but for those who labelled him “high”, that’s not it. I wish him well.
Well, as for me, I had problems in getting through with my questions. So I just tried to make the best out of it. Bobby was very friendly and we did have a good time...
