I’m 59 and have seen all the legends-
    Uli
    Yngwie
    Schenker
    Iommi
    Priest
    Maiden
    Gary Moore
Then I stumbled onto a 15 minute back and forth shred fest between Midori and Miyako!
I have been hooked ever since.
Please watch their Concerts on TH-cam and tell me how they play at this pace for nearly 2 hours!!!
They are 5 virtuoso’s in the same band🎤🎸🎸🎸🥁
If you watch their guitarist’s, your mind won’t believe what your eyes are seeing!
    Their drummer is phenomenal.
    Lovebites-
    They didn’t invent Heavy Metal…
    They Just Perfected It 🤘😎

There are around 600 active all female pop, punk, rock and metal bands in Japan. That is 600 female drummers, 600 female bass players and probably around 1000 plus female guitarists. In the UK I am hard pushed to think of 6, let alone 600 active all female bands playing at the highest level. The future of rock and roll is safe in the hands of the Japanese.

Hey Wolf, let me explain the VOCAL thing. Asami is a SINGER, not a vocalist. She has an R&B, Soul background and that is NOT the typical resume of Metal vocalists. She can actually SING as opposed to screaming or demonsing(Opeth is the best at being able to do both).
Asami can actually sing and her style works with the music because it's almost a contrast to what they play. I FREAKIN LOVE THIS BAND because I get it! And you will too.

Lovebites does all styles of metal. So no matter what style you prefer, they have songs to cover it. You can't judge Lovebites by listening to one or two songs. You would need to listen to a dozen or more songs, to understand what Lovebites can do.

Asami is still the weak link of the band. She is not a bad singer, but she just MUCH better suited for Jazz/Blues like she used to do. I feel that she is too often straining and singing out of her comfort range. I believe if Lovebites had a more naturally metal/rock singer, they would be way more popular.

Do they deserve the Hype? The Band is 6 years old, has 4 studio albums , 3 Live DVD's plus 2 EP's totaling over 60 tracks of original songs and covers. They play as perfect a Metal Product as most have Ever heard and that Metal seems too encompass Power,Thrash,Speed,Shred,Prog so well that fans from many genres gravitate towards them. Then you throw in the Japanese way of Contrasting the bands looks or imagery from their music and there you have it. They are a Literal Metal Amusement Park with rides and attractions for All.

Re. culture--hard to make generalizations, but know that there are some 600+ all-female or female-led rock, metal and punk bands in Japan. And the level of technicality is downright scary. Few people here will ever know about most of these bands, which is sad, because, well, you know... the music scene here is pretty flat.

I was skeptical at first, and I tried to resist their charms, but to no avail. I think LOVEBITES are masking some of the best Metal these days. Familiar, yet fresh, each song gets better upon repeated listening.
These songs are also squarely in the Thrash domain:
RAISE SOME HELL, Dimebag would approve of the pinch harmonic-based riffs - th-cam.com/video/zamSQD0JUFk/w-d-xo.html
BREAK THE WALL, sounds like SLAYER + Gary Moore - th-cam.com/video/5Pc0XK0lNmU/w-d-xo.html

Glad you gave Lovebites a chance. People calling them a 'power metal' band is a real disservice. These ladies Love to play FAST, so they are more Thrash than Power Metal. But Asami's voice is quite high naturally - probably because she is only 4'10". So when they come to the chorus her high voice can sound like Power Metal vocals. At every concert Asami will yell "We are Lovebites, and we play Heavy Metaaal! Power, Thrash, Punk, Prog, Ballads - their Metal 'genre' is 'Lovebites'. it's okay if you have a very common stereotype in music.
but we talk about a Japanese band here.
so we have to act like we are in a foreign place that is not our territory at all.
Japanese people really loves to combine and mix everything into something new.
they loves to make a unique things, for example, Babymetal - combine Kawai(cute) with metal, Wagakki - combine cultural instrument with metal.
tbh, Lovebites is not that weird compared to the other unusual combination.
for them (staff and members), combining Asami's voice with metal is the same like combining kawai/cute with metal.
the most important things for them is the appearance and skills, not whether people will like it or not.
so we better appreciate it, no need to make it our taste or not because people usually just don't care about what's the reactor's taste.
as long as the reactor did a reaction to it, the fans will always come and watch, doesn't matter the reactor like it or not.
also, telling people it's our taste or not is very unnecessary.
people are coming to watch a reaction and opinion, not to watch someone looking for the best music based on their taste.
    thank you for the reaction.

It took a few listens to various songs by Lovebites but then I came to like the vocals. I hope she stays and I hope to see them live one day. While the power metal sound is thrashy or blackened at times, the vocals don't seem to fit, but surely, that's their idea- to put the listener off balance. Add the fact that Asami is poised and trained, I think its a winner

They do cover a wide range of styles, with (at least from what I've heard of them, and in my personal opinion) their 2 biggest wheelhouses being Power and Thrash. Some are more clearly one or the other, some are a blend of both, and then some are completely different.

Pleased to see you liked them! :) I appreciate that you went with "Set the World on Fire" (instead of "Holy War") and picking "Stand and Deliver" instead of "Judgement Day" (which I had suggested) obviously wasn't a bad decision, either. While it might be their least "typical" song music-wise (especially on the new album), the videoclip shows them in a way you don't see them on stage. Thus with just two songs, you covered them live and as they sound on their studio albums, old and new bassist, stage outfit and casual wear, looking serious and having a lot of fun! (They have, of course, also fun on stage.) Somewhat ironically, you so far didn't cover their Power Metal side. Not that I think they should be marketed as a Power Metal band, because they play nearly each and every "old school" metal style. I'm still waiting for their first Doom Metal song, though. Parts of the heaviest song on their new album, "Dissonance", actually reminded me (and also some other fans) of Death (the band) - not Asami's vocals, of course (but she co-wrote the song)! Looks like my prediction of a 4-digit view count within less than 24 hours was also accurate. :)
In the context of female metal musicians, I'd like to mention that the very first metal album I bought way back in 1984 was "Dancin' on the Edge" by Lita Ford, and even though none of them played on the level that Lovebites do, I think the two - to my knowledge - first all-female Thrash Metal bands Ice Age from Sweden who started in 1987 and Meanstreak from the US (your wife reacted to their song "Roadkill" on the channel of Kel'n'Rich) deserve to be mentioned here as well as Phantom Blue, who were a lot softer, but featured two shredders on guitar, who showed their skills at least on their eponymous debut (which came out in 1989), though to a far lesser extent than I would have wished. As someone whose favourite subgenre is Thrash Metal, I had hoped they'd get heavier, write longer, more complex songs and show off more of their guitar skills, but they went into another direction and eventually disbanded. With Lovebites, I've finally found a band which takes the best of what I liked about "old school" metal in the eighties to the next level.

I will only "disagree" on one part, that Asami is a "weak" vocalist compared to the rest of the band's skill level. Anything Bruce Dickinson can do, she can, but not every song really lets her reach out and shine. "Judgement Day" from the new album is a good one, as are most of their balladic stuff. Empty Daydream, Epilogue, Frozen Serenade are some examples that Asami gets to "do more".

Wolf.. dude.. didn't expect to see you solo! Take your time with Asami.. roll with her. Her background is r'n'b, and classical but she's brought it into the metal realm with relish. You will love her, and you need to know that they're power metal at the core but there is more to them than that, so go wide with them.. From these tracks go to something like "Swan Song" and "Edge of the World" to diverge from these, and in addition to these songs take in a little "Dissonance" to get their place now. Yep this is the new bassist.. Fami. She's a smiley sweetheart.

Great reaction. Thank you for de-genre-ing Lovebites. Of a 60 track catalogue there are very few songs that are similar to the rest. Because the departed founder wanted to put together a band that respected the NWOBHM that happened at exactly “my time” (my early 20’s) they tended to sound, quite deliberately, like Iron Maiden. But not all the time and only in one track was the choice deliberate. I was fortunate to be absent from the rock scene when grunting and animal noises became prominent in metal. Nobody will ever convince me that imitating a Neanderthal is singing. Not when you’ve heard Rob Halford, Bon Scott, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate and Ronnie James Dio live.
So for many younger than me, Asami’s vocals “don’t fit”. But as a vocalist of such tiny stature her range is incredible, her ability to sustain notes and with power defies appearances. And “Stand and Deliver” is a clear example, in comparison to “Set the World on Fire” of how she *must* have worked on her vocal technique during the hiatus (either that or hormonal changes due to childbirth…or both). Her voice is grittier, dirtier, and on Judgement Day, fans worry that she might damage her voice singing some of the songs live. I doubt that, she’s a professional. And as a front person, only Freddie Mercury and a handful of others can control a crowd with a gesture the way she can. Tonight I see them live, in Tokyo, after a 7000 mile flight from the U.K. That tells you how much I respect them. PS, good luck finding me a country song I’d like.

Knowing the genre that you like Lovebites is definitely not for you and I understand that. I agree. Some of his comments were cringe worthy. US musicians are so used to listening to the "One trick Pony" bands. Therefore, they figure, if you hear a couple of songs from a band then you know what they are all about. That might be true for 99% of bands, but not LOVEBITES. That's why they have no Peer. There is no way you could possibly listen to their song one or two or three times and hear all that's inside the song. It's too complex and your brain can't process it. (That's just a fact of science or something I made up.) That's the main reason people don't like some of their songs because they really haven't heard them yet. This band has no Peer. What I like about LOVEBITES besides their music being pleasing to my ear is, they don't try and to fit into someone else's definition of what they should be and sound like. They compose and play the music they like, and they are incredibly good at it. They are proud to be women and they will dress the way they want. They don't "Growl" like some suggest🙄🙄. I hear many times people aren't comfortable because of how hard they play but they don't "Look" the part. Too bad. It is about time someone stopped assimilating to the "genre" and started to play interesting vs boring repetitious music. Their style of music has a complex development vs the typical "Sugar High" music the Music Industry has addicted most people to. I understand that many people like to eat at Boston Market, but some of us like our food seasoned. 🤘🤘

@@WolfKain I prefer their native language. It does change the sound. It is also difficult to get the same meaning of the lyrics and match the syllables from the native language. Especially if the song wasn't written in English in the first place. Lovebites has always been a English focused band lyrically, but Asami's accent is or was quite thick, making it difficult to understand at times. She has improved her pronunciation significantly though, even from their last album. The only other Japanese band I know that has made decision to more English vs native is Bridear. They signed with a western based label like Lovebites has based in the UK, but also has a base in the US. They are now writing lyrics in English from the start and Kimi is getting quite good singing and speaking in English. Neither band has toured the US as of yet. Kimi did mention in an interview they were exploring the idea for possibly this year. Both bands have been to the EU/UK. Bridear has a new video being released today, Saturday, called Eyes of Doubt.

Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites. I realized about what you consider bots but I’m pretty sure most of them definitely are not. In my case is similar, I have redacted several templates of texts that I use depending on the reactor, and especially when they are reacting for the very first time to Lovebites. It saves me time and effort for writing my comments. Of course I make some changes depending on the situation; for example, I might change my recommendations depending whether the reactor is a man or a woman, or if the reactor likes a specific genre of metal, or depending on what videos the reactor has already watched, etc. Some fans write long texts in their comments (mostly for first time reactors); can you imagine how hard it would be to write those texts from scratch? Yes, these women deserve the hype. I discovered Lovebites about three years ago and I’m still in awe. I purchased the Blue-Rays of the concerts “Daughters of the dawn”, “Five of a kind”, “Heavy metal never dies”, and the DVD of their presentation at Wacken Open Air, Germany, that is included in the Electric Pentagram CD. Quiet expensive (including shipping to Mexico City) but definitely worth every penny (Amazon Japan delivery service was excellent).

I don't actually think they're bots, Lovebites has a very dedicated TH-cam fanbase.
By coincidence, the two tracks that you chose here were more on the thrashy side, but actually they play a mix of genres that has shifted focus a bit recently. "Power metal" used to be not really accurate for their first two albums, it was more like NWOBHM (and very consciously and intentionally so) with forays into power metal and thrash and even hard rock, with Iron Maiden being a very strong influence at first, also Metallica and, yes, also Helloween. Starting with their third album and especially with their current fourth album, they have become a more typical power metal band (typical with regard to the style, not with regard to quality: they are crème de la crème as far as quality). The thrash element is still kind of there, but the NWOBHM is almost gone; on the new album there's one song that still fits that category (Wicked Witch, which sounds a lot like Iron Maiden), one track is glam metal (My Orion), two are very thrashy (Stand And Deliver and Dissonance), two are thrash/power hybrids (We Are The Resurrection / Soldier Stands Solitarily), one is a power/symph metal hybrid (Judgement Day), the other three are classic power metal (The Spirit Lives On / Victim Of Time / Lost In The Garden). They have become notably heavier and faster too, especially on the last EP and on the new album. Reaction tip/request: If you want a sore neck from headbanging, listen to Soldier Stands Solitarily, the fastest song they have ever done and one of their heaviest and best. th-cam.com/video/xeebNdFtLqM/w-d-xo.html
I think more individualism is possible in Japan than you give the country credit for. Of all East Asian countries, it is the most westernized in substance if maybe not in veneer, although it is more rules- and process-oriented (like Germany) rather than results-oriented (like China or the US). In China, Korea and Vietnam, for example, extended families/clans still play a very large role, whereas in Japan it is mostly the nuclear family plus grandparents, which is not so very different from America or Europe. There is immense pressure to succeed, but the career in which you try to succeed is not prescribed by society. Entertainers are much admired and even idolized these days (this used to be different in pre-1857 Japan, entertainers were on a low rung in the old caste system), and standing out has almost become a requirement because there is much competition.
Also, for some reason that I have not quite understood myself, while globally there are still few women playing metal (but the number is growing!), there's been a wave of all-female Japanese metal bands in the past 15 years, perhaps because labels think they sell well, which would encourage new bands to form and try their luck, or alternatively, once there's one band that young women can identify with, that can serve as the spark that sets off the fire.

@@WolfKain What they all have in common is fantastic musicianship, due to the, let's say, ambitious Japanese education system where musical education starts early (the Lovebites guitarists, for example, started to learn playing the piano at 2 and 3 years old, respectively).
With regard to genre, many of the new all-female bands have a fairly typical sound: melodic metal on a basis of classic and power metal, and often singing that is relatively weak and above all poppy, plus poppy vocal melodies, which is their greatest drawback IMO. Lovebites and a few other bands really stick out here: Lovebites for example are fully westernized in both music and singing, and Asami is everything but weak. Other J-metal bands as a rule sound more "Japanese" in their melodies (hard to describe, but the more J-metal you listen to, the more you'll know what I mean), and the ladies' voices often have a cute-ish, girl-ish timbre to them that I don't quite dig. But the instrumental music is always a feast to listen to.
Other bands that stand out from the female J-metal standard are Unlucky Morpheus (a mixed band, only two female members, they're a bit like a Japanese version of Tarja-era Nightwish, only faster and heavier, but they do have the Gothic look and themes and a lead singer whose vibrato takes some serious getting used to but if you manage that, it is kind of cool, plus they have the best violinist in rock), Hanabie (a curious mixture of J-pop and deathcore with lyrics that are critical of Japanese society, which is really rare in Japan), Ark Royal (a fairly small and unknown band, but a little more raw in their sound and with a versatile singer who actually has some occasional Floorisms [occasional growls and operatic singing]), Mardelas (who have a fairly commercial power metal-ish sound but a strong singer who does not sound cute; the singer is the only woman in the band), and Asterism (who are mostly an instrumental band, with just very occasional singing, but with an incredible female shredder who is only 20 years old or so, and superb (male) bassist and drummer).

Hi, my friend Wolf, and hi to all the friends of the Channel.
Totally agree with your words at the beginning; almost in any genre you can find something you like. And I'm not just talking about metal subgenres, I'm talking ALMOST all music.
No one can deny Michael Jackson, the king of pop, was a genius. Not only for his innovations, but for knowing how to surround himself with great musicians at certain times (and here I return to hard rock/metal) because the collaborations of Steve Stevens on Dirty Diana, Eddie Van Halen on Beat It, Slash on Give in to me, or Carlos Santana on Whatever Happens, in addition to take on their tours the great woman guitarist Orianthi, eminently rocker.
You also have to surrender to the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, Vivaldi, Tchaikosky, etc. etc.
There are also geniuses in rap, like Eminem. Or in flamenco, like Paco de Lucía.
Now will explain the ALMOST. Reggaeton. I can't stand it, I don't like it at all. I adore, I love my Latin American brothers, but they were wrong when they created that music. Fortunately, another large part of them are also the best audience at metal concerts.
And I'm already with the japanese ladies from Lovebites.
I didn't know this band, so these are the first two songs I listen to.
For me, the japanese metal scene has two stages.
The first one clearly marked by the band Loudness, they have recorded 32 studio albums. Something incredible! with their best period between 1983 and 1999 within the purest heavy metal
The second stage is marked by the more recent band Light Bringer, which plays wonderful symphonic metal.
Maybe these Lovebites ladies mark a third stage. They will have to be followed closely.
As soon as the first song started, I notice a huge reminiscence of the Testament sound. Think there's a lot of the Testament sound, except for the chorus part. But the riffs and those rises and falls of the guitar are pure Testament, IMO. The drums also sound like Testament to me. The guitar solos are very good in their style, they have technique, but I think they abuse taping, which is generally very cold, and the bendings, which gives guitar a sound with more feeling, like a human voice, are missing.
The second song seems to me more power metal than the first, and the guitars are more heartfelt, with the use of tremolo. Here I lose the essence of Testament.
I think a mix of both songs would be perfect.
So come on ladies!!!, I hope you'll be my third japanese stage.
Something that has always caught my attention is the coldness of the japanese public, with only a few applause. But I think it's something cultural, because they do the same in any country in the world where you find them, which is ALL because they travel a lot. Phileas Fogg is a simple amateur compared to any japanese. They look like robots.
That gives much more value to the metal bands that come out of there, because metal needs strength. A force that, in general, the japanese public lacks. You just have to watch any concert of historical bands in the famous Budokan Hall. They have always been like this.
    And.... that's all folks!!
As always, big hug from Spain.

@@taz2491 Thanks!!! I really like Light Bringer but I didn't know that fact. Well yes, I am happy about that collaboration, which I didn't know about. One more reason to start listening to more Lovebites music. I hope they are, as I said, my third stage in Japanese metal. And also sorry but my English, because it is not my native language either. Greetings from Spain.

@@carlos.buenrock.acercandoa4531 You know what, I think the balance we speak of is respect. You don't have to be silent to be respectful. When I see Maiden in Central and South America, the crowds there are some of the loudest most appreciative crowds I've ever seen. In Miami the crowd just stood there like a log. At least they didn't boo 😆

I've seen all of your Babymetal reaction videos, I really like them. I found Lovebites three years ago and I forgot about Babymetal because Lovebites is far superior, it's pure heavy metal and the best!
I hope you enjoy this fabulous band that will soon conquer the world.
    Greetings from Japan! 🤘⚡

Thank you for reacting to lovebites again.
Please keep up the good work LOVEBITES.
Asami (Vo) was originally an R&B and soul singer.
She had never listened to metal music at all, which, according to her, was "music from another dimension.
To learn more about Asami's original singing ability in R&B and soul, please see below.
LOVEBITES / "Judgement Day [MUSIC VIDEO]"(New Album)
LOVEBITES "Swan Song Chopin Intro" live with lyrics
    LOVEBITES"Glory to theWorld" [Music Video]
LOVEBITES "A Frozen Serenade'' 2021 LIVE in Tokyo with lyrics
    3E songs
    ("Edge of the World,"
    "Empty Daydream,"
and "EPILOGUE"+"Don't Bite The Dust" all live).
At LOVEBITES, you can listen to a wide range of metal genres.
It also confirms the wide range of compositions, lyrics, arrangements, and Asami's singing ability.

To the Vocals: At first 2016/17 the english singing of Asami was barley understandable. She has worked hard and now its quite good.

if you want power metal from these ladies i suggest “when destiny align” or “glory to the world” from the old albums and “judgement day” from the new album as starters

Interesting review - recently discovered Lovebites. 🤘 Have you reacted to Nemophila? Another heavy all female metal band? Try their new song Rise 👍

Musically this group is pure fire. The vocals amazing as they are just doesn't do it for me. Yet the music is sooooo good you just bang your head and enjoy lol!

You're like most western barbarian reactors with the need to slot the Japanese bands into a genre. First they are highly skilled EDUCATED musicians. They don't lock themselves into genres. Go with it or go away.

Plenty of all female bands in Japan.
