    This is the best 3d printed case I've seen! It really sucks how expensive the SFF market can be especially itx motherboards but almost no SFF case manufacturer wants to cater to matx or atx boards even though it's possible

    That was stunning build especially when comparison time came, yet the intro could've been shorter. And the PSU ventilator is oriented inside of the chassis instead of tp the side where the ventilation holes are. I salute your perseverance with the custom modding the cable lengnt.

    • @standupg4m3r
      @standupg4m3r  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks!
      The OG plan for the PSU was to orient the fan facing out; you can see the mounting holes allow for it too! But since the RAM modules isolated the VRM area from any airflow from the AIO, I decided to let the PSU contribute some airflow to the area instead. Not ideal, but from hours of gaming and too many cycles of Cinebench, it’s been working out. Dust though… yeah… I should link the dust buster I use for all my PCs. Being in the garage also doesn’t help any of my PCs!

    A tip for shorter cables: Use a Silverstone PSU, and buy the PP05 cable kit made for Silverstone SFF cables. They're really short, flat, rubber coated modular cables. As a bonus they work with the SFX power supplies, if you wanted more space. Also, side note: I would make a magnetic side panel and leave the motherboard tray open, for access to the CPU mount plate. Also, a USB-C front panel port would be nice too.

    • @standupg4m3r

      Thanks for watching and sharing some tips! I’ve had luck with many PSU brands, but the one and only PSU I had issues with was a Silverstone SFX-L unit, so now im hesitant to go with them; plus the Corsair SFX units I have are hard to beat!
      Rear CPU opening would be good call for sure! I’m also looking at audio and USBC too

    The quality of this video was expected to be moderate considering the amount of subscribers... But you outperformed people with 10 times the subscribers. You've got my subscription! Did you think about blocking specific parts of the mesh to generate a less chaotic air flow through the case?

    I've been dreaming of piecing together an ATX-sized HTPC case and this only confirms that it's possible. I'm hoping to keep the overall width of the case under 70mm by compromising and using an SFX power supply and by letting it sprawl out. If the size constraints work out, I might be able to include an ODD and some drive bays! Thanks for the vid.

    Interesting design and the video itself as well. I think that it would be better if the motherboard backside didn't show the threaded inserts from the outside. With that said, there are a lot of parts that are really neatly designed and feel solid, and the mesh panels feel really nice. And the fact that a lot of these look really professionally made from afar, while when you zoom in on them, you can clearly see those are printed - it's an interesting thing to tackle because people got used to fully professionally surface finished things, while you don't really need all of them to be like that.
    One more thing that I would like to see in your videos - print times - either overall or for specific parts like how much faster is it to print the mesh panel vs a solid one/the amount of filament difference.

    • @standupg4m3r
      @standupg4m3r  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks, as always! I had larger ambitions for the exposed inserts - but shelved it for another video. I also didn't want to hide the fact that the test-bench piece is the heart of this case and didn't want to hide its roots; I may revisit this build with a dedicated structure, because I do agree that it could look waaaay better without.
      I'll post some print times in the next video - the estimates from the slicer have been accurate so far, and I figured ppl have access to the print files and can see what their printers will do themselves - and I am now officially spoiled with the speed the Qidi Tech X-Max 3 prints at... I am a bit reluctant to share my print times because it is staggering compared to my Artillery Sidewinder X1... like 3-4x... and I would hate to say something like, "It only took me 3 hrs" and then a user sees an estimate of 12 hrs lol

    Excellent trimming of the power cables! It's amazing how many great custom 3D cases have been uglified by messy cables.
    Have you considered/tried using some spiral wrap of those cables? They are very easy to work with. You might only need enough to cover the middle portions of the cables and then use extra small cable ties near the connectors.

      I have some spiral wrap and even spare sheathing but decided against any sort of bundling since the 24pin cable is almost like two cables that terminate to one - this causes more bulk when bundled: www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/s/sMNLVUDCPS

    I'm glad I found this video. I'm building a custom layout mech keyboard and realize that I will need a 3D printer for the keyboad case & it's keycaps. My thoughts were to make a wooden case but building a matching computer case to my keyboard sounds much better

    • @EvilDaveCanada
      @EvilDaveCanada 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually I was thinking of taking ideas from this and other 3D printed cases to build a internal frame similar to those test stands and then add some nice thin sheets of wood to the outside. It would be placed on it's side like the old desktop cases were. I have this nice powerful fan whose motor has died to sit facing the ceiling. Then use washable furnace filters on all the air intake vents. The fan is so powerful but quiet that when the case is sealed up there will be a partial vacuum inside drawing the rooms air through the filters. Once I have a working prototype, I might look at a water cooling system that all the incoming air goes through. I plan to seal all the corners with aluminum tape which will Back for a nice contrast to black stained wood.

    • @EvilDaveCanada
      @EvilDaveCanada 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With a 3D printed case, the whole motherboard could be enclosed and short pigtail cables could be used to route the rear connectors to the outside of the case. USB based accessories can the be mounted inside the case where it 'should' be cooler then room temperature.

      @@standupg4m3rI will try to remember. My first priority is the keyboard. It will have eight(8) rows & thirty-two(32) columns. The alpha section will be in a five(5) row × five(5) column plus the 'Z' I'm NOT a touch typist so this layout should be perfect for a person who types via the peek & Poke method. I have all the MX Blue keys and boards needed to have the keyboard running Python. I am actually thinking of using a Rpi Zero 2 W for the brains instead of RP2040 based boards. I hope to get all this done before I die as I'm 64 and my warranty ran out in 2020.

      PETG will begin to get gummy at around 80C (melts at 230C+); that means the air has to be 80C or if it’s in direct contact… if the air in your case is 80C you’re in a A LOT of trouble lol
      So far I have not found any issues in the number of cases I’ve made, but I won’t rule out the chance of issues arising. However, it seems risk can be had in any form when you look at things like the 12hpwr in the PC realm.

    Hey there,
    really nice work you did there!
    As i'm currently in the process of designing a small matx Rack case for my band rig, i have a question:
    Do you measure out your physical components for deigning stuff like the Motherboard standoffs and gpu mounting points or did you manage to find actual 3d models that are accurate to design around it?

    maybe attach magentic points for any of that kind of action. If you want to keep it small you can even put m.2 extension slots attacked to a PCIE slot. Then make cartridges for the M.2 NVME drives inside. A Harddrive dedicated to all my productivity software and I just push it in like an N64 cartridge. Separate drive from my Steam games, etc.

      Keep an eye out for a a following up of this project. ;)

    If you make this horizontal and make a 140mm wide cut out in the motherboard side panel and then have stand offs on the vacant screw holes, allowing for external cooling. (I have a 420mm AIO and I just cannot find a half decent case to fit it in that isn't a literal reinforced tank. i.e. horizontal to allow the mounts or I would absolutely love the current for factor you have here, just extended and widened a bit to accommodate a 420mm AIO

      @@hayden6776 someone else also mentioned rack mounting, eatx, and more HDD accommodation… unless I get a rack mount or eatx motherboard it will be hard since I like having the parts physically on hand to measure against. But will keep my eyes peeled for them.

    can i use your stl files to get the measurements of the atx standard? i want to make a custom case but have trouble finding the dimensions required to make the parts fit without having to disassemble my computer
    did you measure the real components or based the dimensions from pdfs about the standard?

      @standupg4m3r  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! The hole locations can be found in ATX docs but I measured them physically just to double check. Please do not copy and distribute the geometry I applied around said holes though.

    Excellent video! And the information you provide, your tool and materials is super thorough. Well done!
    What program do you use to design your 3D parts? My son who is 12 does some 3D printing and was using tinkercad but he couldn't modify the shapes so I suggested blender since it is open source and can be used for 3D printing, but neither he nor I know much about the program.
    I also heard SketchUp was easy to use but I'm not sure which program we should dedicate our time to. You don't have much time to.
    I have been drafting on AutoCAD for a really long time, mostly 2D architectural drawings and when I've experimented with 3D modeling inside it it wasn't very easy to use and I figured they were better programs out there to dedicate my time to.
    I would just like to know your opinion. Again, awesome video! Very inspirational.

      Thanks for watching! I use Solidworks (too expensive to consider... but they have student versions), and I would look into Fusion 360 or Onshape if I were you and your son.

      @@standupg4m3r yeah I would probably do good with those programs because I'm familiar with the AutoCAD ecosystem. But anything from Autodesk is usually expensive.

    So cool and it looks awesome! I want to print a case for my server too as what I want doesn't realy exists... I've got a mATX board with intel stock cooler (i guess 6cm high) and all I want to add in the case is 2x 5.25" external slot to add two hotswap modules (2,5" SSD). No power supply (external with PicoPSU) and no extra fans (one on CPU and those on the hotswaps are enough). I tried designing in fusion 360, but man do I suck in that 🤣
