This video made me think on how we tend to bash engineers/manufacturers on how they design things but daamn its difficult to put together a system with a bunch of parts that need to work with each other, reliably, in a limited space, comply with regulations, repairable and also make some money for the boss in the process. Those guys are heroes
Hey Eric, those "Quick Connect Connectors" (MSLC Connectors) are more than 20+ years old. There are special tools to assemble and disassemle those connectors, just one of the reasons Ford last used those on the Econoline and Mustang (about 2006 timeframe). Ford moved from that MSLC fitting to the DSL (Dual Slimline Fitting) which is a Parker Patented item. From there they moved to the MSF (Metal Seal Fitting) which is patented by Visteon. Ford moved from the MSLC due to the assembly problems as well as the fact that they leaked quite a bit. The MSLC Fittings had a leak down rate that would drain your AC System in about 7 years. They moved to the DSL fitting to achieve a Best In Class AC system (which they did for several years) and the leak down was 10 years. They have now moved to the MSF, and that has a leak down of around 12 to 15 years (Visteon "claims" it is a "Zero Leak Fitting"...but we shall all see). Sorry for the AC Line lesson, I deal with them for many, many years on many, many vehicles. The Ford AC System is one of the best out there believe it or not. Most will say "NOT", but I've town down GM, Chrysler, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Honda, Accura, VW, Toyota, Nissan, Peugot, Kia, Cherry, and many others...The Ford system might be more expensive than the rest, but damn that system is good. Too bad the underhood temps affect them so bad, or they could really cheapen that AC Loop up.
Restoring an old Buick right now, and honestly I let myself get a little frustrated the other day. There was cursing. It was a generator terminal nut being uncooperative: exactly one of those things that simply should not take very long that somehow took forever. Now, after watching what you're dealing with in this video, I feel a Zen-like calm descending upon my person. I thank you for the gift of this mental state.
Today on ETCG: Eric gets underneath a 40 year old and notices how sticky the lubricant is, then hits her exhaust with his stabilizer bar, and absolutely hammers her exhaust until everything fits just right.

Morning Eric, I’m Mr Zapata from California. I have a 1970 Chevy Impala. I add a temp, oil, &, water gauge’s to my car. On the temperature side I also did a Radiator to let the air out of my system
If you look up Nolathane Part Number 42997A, its the sway bar link kit off of an Australian Commodore and the pins are offset. It'll probably work better than everything needing to be clearanced.
I am jealous that you made a Ford Fairmount a sleeper racecar. I am 42 years old and remember people driving Ford(LTD) Fairmounts as just a standard commuter/grocery store cars.
You could always speed up a project car by having 10 mechanics, 20 engineers, 15 fabricators, 6 speed shops, and all of the aftermarket go fast goodies companies with bottomless pockets working on it , and just complete it in a week. Wait a minute, that would be fantasy land (overh....n). I like your way better Eric, at least you can say, “I built that car” !
EDIT: Get rid of that mishimoto cap, replace it with an OEM one - mishimoto caps have a tenancy to be DOA or fail very early. FPFA baby! I love this series, no interest in the Fairmont model exactly, more about stuffing fox body mustang stuff in a different car :-) Glad you are doing your car your way Eric; keep them coming! Also the "dads truck" series, two of your best because they mean the most to you.
Yes, building a custom vehicle takes much more effort than expected. Every detail has to be engineered, produced, mounted, reproduced and finally installed. See my vid „TWIN puch Wintertreffen“ 😁
HE FIXED IT WITH A HAMMER!! HAHAHAHA. love ya Eric. and I know you thought of this....is the wrap all the heat shielding you need for those hoses by the Exhaust Pipe?
You know, I run SVE's version of those electric fans on my stock 302 and they simply don't move enough air. I'm upgrading to the Contour fans, something you might want to keep in mind if you have problems, especially with your setup
Antonio Claudio Michael Yeah it’s a little disheartening to watch Eric beat on that exhaust with a hammer. He should just cut it and put some more bend in it. At least it will b covered with wrap
To isolate vibration for the A/C condenser, wouldn't you need a rubber washer on both sides of the bracket? As in between the bracket/body and bracket/fastener head?
If the intercooler and the intercooler brackets are different metal types (I'm guessing they are) then use rubber or plastic mounts to isolate the metals. This way, the metals won't interact (can't remember what it is called) and start rusting or oxidizing.
i was taught to not use normal hose clamps but, SMOOTH hose clamps on silicone hose as those holes can damage the hose when taught. however i have missed a few videos on this series.
I know the car is already together, but you mentioned in the video that you wish the AC lines were on the drivers side instead. Could you run the condenser upside-down and have them come out at the bottom on the drivers side? You would probably have to modify or have custom AC lines made, but maybe it could give you a little more room up top on the passenger side.
No. That would put them right in the core support. I made this set up work, but it wasn't without it's struggles. We haven't even gotten to the firewall yet, or the stuff inside the dash.
Was just throwing it out there as a possibility. I see what you mean. I rewatched that part of the video again. I guess if the radiator was slid towards the passenger side it could be possible, not worth that hassle, but then your upper radiator hose and intake would be fighting for space then. That's always the battle with a custom car, trying to fit 10lbs of stuff in a 5lb bag, and make it look like it belongs.
Eric, you may have figured this out already, or hopefully not a problem, but you fan temp sensor may cycle a lot how its mounted due to the fan air cooling the sensor faster than the actual coolant, I had to install a wall to block the fan air from the sensor so it would work correctly. Just a thought, and Fairmont looks good, and that's from a Chevy guy...
Just bought Lanoguard Marine and Chassis spray (Lanolin, safe on rubber and wiring, resists pressure washing and hopefully UK salted roads! -- keep it off the brake discs and pads)
How are silicone coolant hoses serving you? I have read somewhere that over time the coolant level can decrease due to coolant evaporation when using silicone hoses... I'm thinking about putting them on my car (more like a weekend toy than a daily driver) since the original ones are over 20 years old, but don't know if I should be concerned about evaporation (as in checking the coolant level more often than oil).
@@ericthecarguy So increased coolant loss due to increased permeation (couldn't remember the term in the first comment) rate isn't a big deal if the car isn't driven on a daily basis?
You can raise or shorten your end links and it doesn't hurt your handling at all bro if you think about what a sway bar actually does it really doesn't matter as long as it's there on the car lol
I have no power on my truck... changed the battery first then the starter it was cranking but then after the sixth try it didn’t crank or had power.... turned the motor by hand and it turns...

No plans for rust treatment other than not driving on salty roads. The Element is doing well. I've been driving it all winter.
Come on, Eric. This is a family channel. Did you HAVE to get your hose in the frame? XD
There's a good chance the rubber washers are going to let those sheet metal screws rattle loose.
surely easier to get a cutom pipe made up after suspension is all set up?

Use a anti-way bar out of a 4 cylinder model ? Smaller bar will allow for more weight transfer in drag racing anywho.

Ac lines are extreamly close to the massive heat going to be coming from that turbo

The only one available is the same as the one I used in this video.
