    I want to live in a parallel universe where this level of fidelity in hardware won (with great fidelity in the software) instead of stuck into the one where there is zero competition left anymore (on the software side) and monopoly on hardware.

      It's a shame that windows phone didn't really capture any market. It was definitely a mis-step on Nokia's part. But the Os itself was actually really good imo. Fast, fluid, and worked well on budget hardware. It's just that then as now, everybody wants iPhone and Samsung. Market share after those 2 in the western world is slim pickings. Only company to have any chance now with a 3rd os is Huawei. But it's likely that will only really be successful in China. Again as with harmony os as windows os found out, it all boils down to app support

    Bringing back the memories when Nokia is still the king of smartphones.. I would not use a smartphone if it's not a Nokia ofcourse. Coming from 5110 in the year 2000, i can still enumerate all of the Nokia phones i've used.. lol 😹 here they are: 5110, 3310, 3530, 2100, 3100, 6630, 6680, 3220, 3230, N70 (Music Ed.), N73 (Music Ed.), N82, N96, N8.. then Lumia 1020 the last of former Nokia brand smartphone i've owned before moving to iPhones. Then, when they returned as android, i tried the Nokia 7 plus & 6.1 plus.. but with both?.. I'm just not happy/satisfied using them, I just have that feeling that they are not the brand i loved before. Anyway, it's really a nostalgic feeling everytime i remember bragging my new Nokia phone with my friends during my college days.. 😁👌

      Thats a really nice journey of cool Nokia phones. Sadly a part of what made Nokia phones so special before is hard to replicate these days, which is a special software experience. Android is boring in my opinion, and unless they actually develop their own skin for it, it will continue to be boring. They still make nice hardware though!

    First time when I had a Nokia phone , it was 1998 :)) those years we had no problems with our phones.. Nokia was king of the world :) We like to talk about old Nokia days with its pros and cons .Nokia should learn from it's mistakes in the past but the matter is that what Hmd is doing now? I think the situation is worse now. For a long time no news from HMD. I would prefer them to pass on the company to a better team than botching the logo.

    • @AbdullaZaki
      @AbdullaZaki  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nokia had so much power back then and then completely threw it away thanks to an incompetent management, internal conflict, and so on. Its a shame :(
      I don't like many things HMD are doing, but I can't help but feel bad for them because they are technically a start up, which has massive fan expectations due to the legendary brand they are carrying. Its the fault of Nokia as well for not helping enough.

The camera was superb.... The least I can say is the best camera phone in my life....If flash was used when capturing photo the skin tones were absolutely amazing...it processed skin like digital cameras...completely natural and full of details unlike todays android phones which only makes your screen smooth and fair not but does not capture that much detail and pixelate with little zoom. .. Sadly it is not working now...

    What a nightmare N8 became to me within just 3 days of purchase. I noticed lag and some errors so I decided to reformat thinking it was a new device and everything would restore to normal. But it was far from truth. Widgets of news and national geographic feeds disappeared. OVI maps stopped. Sync mail stopped and then evey day was a new level of struggle. None of the application on OVI Store were optimised. Every app that you could imagine using won't work as designed. Push mail was another level of nightwear. To have it work again if disconnected wasn't easy ever. Nokia's intent and situation was very clear out of the release of N8. They being in extreme pressure launched a half ready phone and used people like us who were Nokia's fan as beta testera.
    After 6 months of use my brother thought of getting a new phone for himself. Considering the trauma I had with Nokia I bought HTC Desire S for him but after looking at my N8 he decided to take my N8 itself as he wanted good camera and tank like built quality. He still regrets his decision. Since then I never looked back at Nokia. Unfortunately, they are still the same - chaep and rip-off's.
    Just as a collection, I still have it with me. But over all I felt cheated by Nokia in the way they did business. I really had so much hopes with this phone and what it turned out to be.

    To be honest... I think a lot about older Nokia’s phones and I’m happy that there are profiles like this one. I can satisfy my curiosity.
    Years ago I couldn’t buy them, because of my miserable money status (I was unemployed school student) 😂
    I remember my last device from “old Nokia” was C5-03. Not completely featurephone but still not smartphone. Before that one I got a lot of feature phones of Nokia... good memories 😌
    Couple of years later, as an undergraduate I bought Lumia 925, unfortunately I sold it when it became clear that Windows 10 for mobile was next failure. To be honest, my heart was devastated 🥲 That lumia was one of the best devices I ever had. MS Store wasn’t a problem, cuz it wasn’t my daily phone. I used to use during that time also Xperia Z1 and (after Z1) iPhone 6S+. Lumia was a nice escape from Android and iOS ecosystems. Plus, 925 had great design, beautiful OLED display and nice camera.
    I’m really thinking of buying older Nokia phones. Not only as sentimental time travel. I’m curious of them, because couple of them were my “youthful dreams”. X7, E7, N8, N9, (unofficial N900), Lumia 1020 and 1520. I hope that someday I’ll find something good about them on TH-cam, maybe here ;)
    I’m thinking of lumias 1020 or 1520 - are they worth of buying as second device that I could use as a cheaper version of vlogging camera? Is software usable after the time. Questions like this...
    Hopefully, I’ll find the answers sooner or later ☺️☺️

    I had this phone in the colour you have and I’m sorry, but I loved it! I thought it was gorgeous and the shade of green is exactly my favourite! The camera is to this day, one of the best I have ever used! The only thing I was disappointed with at launch was the fact that they didn’t launch with android! At the time I didn’t really use the browser on the phone, it had a twitter and Facebook app so I didn’t even need to go into the browser for anything.
    I stick with the N8 for such a long time, I mean the thing was indestructible! But I eventually gave it up for the Galaxy S3 and have been with samsung since then, but if Nokia pulled their finger out and actually brought out some worth while devices, I could switch back.

    Had one of these for review back in 2010 (my first year of college), alongside my personal Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i (my first Android) and Nokia 5800XM (the phone I was coming from). Really liked the build of the N8 but you could tell Symbian S60 was hitting its limits in terms of usability on touchscreen, such a pity as this beast was very efficient on power usage and that camera was amazing, but yeah, Symbian was feeling very archaic, such a shame.
    I always wonder what would have happened if the Symbian UIQ had not been killed off a few years before this, as it had a touch screen based interface though it was stylus driven but SE P910 for example was fantastic.

    • @AbdullaZaki
      @AbdullaZaki  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are spot on with your analysis. I switched from a Samsung Galaxy S to this and it was a step back in terms of usability (not functionality), but the hardware was lovely which is why I switched in the first place.
      Nokia badly mismanaged symbian at so many different levels. Had they had the correct vision and leadership at the time, Android would have never become the biggest player as the core of Symbian was more efficient and much more advanced. Symbian UIQ was an example. But Nokia also had Maemo, later MeeGo which was incredible. They also didn't know how to integrate it into their main OS. Maemo / MeeGo were about 5 years ahead of their time.

    If I understood one developer on Reddit, the downfall of Symbian wasn't really its UI or UX, it was that developers needed to remake their apps for every new iteration of Symbian. For instance, apps from OS 60 V2 couldn't run on 60 V3..or any of those apps couldn't run on ^3, Anna, Belle. Too bad, I still cherish Symbian to this day, and I mean to repurchase 808 if I have the chance.

    Indeed, there were high expectations for the Nokia N8, perhaps even exaggerated. I remember the massive campaign of this phone that was supposed to push Nokia forward. Unfortunately, it failed. The phone, despite having good specifications on paper, was nowhere near the quality of its competitor at the time, the iPhone 4. Nokia missed an opportunity to return to the phone pedestal. And the purchase of Nokia by Microsoft made it even worse, unfortunately. Thanks for this video, I share your opinion about Nokia N8.

    I think making touch-screen-Symbian feel as fluid as iOS and Android was a struggle for Nokia's programmers at the time. It seems like they had to do separate implementations of e.g inertial scrolling for home screens, menus and apps, there was never a way of coding it 'system-wide'.
    Granted, if they had spent more time on this instead of building Symbian for the myriad of S60 5th edition phones that came out in 2008-2010, their business might have lasted longer.

    I bought one 10 years ago when they were released. It had the power issue and died within a day. I got a new one under warranty but after a year it fell and the screen smashed. It was my last Nokia. I loved it and it was excellent, but I replaced it with a used Galaxy S and have been on Android since. Symbian was awesome, I had a N82, N79, 5800, N79 and C6-01, the N8 was the pinnacle of Symbian for me so I ended it on a high note.

Nokia Fumbled the Bag so Hard OMG.

      @@AbdullaZaki N96 was a big step down from the N95. It had worse CPU and no GPU etc. Though the GPU (PowerVR MBX, the same one as in iPhone 2G and 3G) in the N95 (and few other models) was only used for games etc. Nokia N97 didn't have a GPU either.
      Most Symbian^3/Anna/Belle phones used the Broadcom GPU for pretty much everything which is why they ran so well with the slow CPU (680MHz ARM11 in N8 and other first gen S^3 phones). Belle was a big upgrade from the og S^3 and Anna. Even on the N8 it feels smoother than most 1GHz Android flaships from 2010, if we don't talk about the web browser which Nokia never fully fixed.
      But some phones like the Nokia 500 with 1GHz ARM11 and no GPU feels a lot slower and laggy than the N8. But tbh even the Nokia 500 wasn't that bad when compared to some of the cheap Android phones from that time
