For me when nokia dies there’s no unique phone, from the shape to functionality, i remember staring at phone magazines with nokia all over the pages, and now same shaped brick
2000's is to mobile phone what 1890's to 1920's to handguns. Sure they had a lot of interesting and innovative design and ideas but most of them were not needed.
I love my n95 back in the day. Pure happiness for 2 years. The zeiss camera was a thing back then and the loudspeaker is one of the best stereo on a phone
I had this and remember laughing at how little the first iPhone could do compared to it. Also, why the fuck did AT&T want Nokia to remove WiFi but not Apple?
AT&T and other carriers could force Nokia and other manufacturers to do what they want, but Apple gets to make its own rules that the carriers must follow.
Steve Jobs refused to sign a deal with a carrier unless he had complete control over the design of the phone. Verizon disagreed. AT&T agreed but the price was a multi-year exclusivity deal. They realised just how much of a competitive advantage it would give them to carry a phone from Apple, and they were right.
Military Anecdote: Way back between 2007 and 2008, this phone formed part of an urban surveillance kit (i.e., surveillance in a city environment) at the time I was deployed with a small team for a year. Well, for some reason, the logistics personnel felt fit to include the Spider-Man DVD as part of the itemized kit supply list. So, for a couple of years, every time one of our teams took over the surveillance mission from a previous team, it had to account for the Spider-Man movie. Go figure.
I think it's usable indeed, for music, email, calling and texting (SMS or open standards like IRC/XMPP) it's well, but also very much so for camera. The camera is still brilliant even today, it takes great shots. Remember 5 megapixels is basically like a still of 1080p+ video, it's much better quality than we'd think judging by that number. And it's not just about megapixels, the flash and (slow) focus on this thing works great, and the sensor they designed was great. It's just super chunky for 2020 (or even 2010!).
Had one in 2008, it took a Galaxy S4 for me to leave it behind in 2013. 5 years. 5 frigging years with the thing and it was still kicking, I switched purely because the 3.5mm jack was, well, not working anymore and it's BT antenna was so fucked it barely had 1.5m of range anymore for my headphones at the time. I doubt any phone I get today will get the same mileage or arrive as intact as the N95 did at its 5 years mark. It was, indeed, the pinnacle of the pre-glass-slab era of smartphones, and I miss it (prolly nostalgia but still).
@@blitzer25blitz62 Yeah that's because the Nokia email app connected to Nokia servers that have died years ago. You need to download and install Mailbox Creator on your device and then you can get IMAP email again.

The speaker array would have been awesome. With TH-cam consumption not slowing down and apps like TikTok emphasizing music and voice playback, we need better audio more than ever.

I just took mine out. The battery wasn't a spicy pillow, but I appear to have wiped the phone when I stopped using it. (And for some reason it's got a Fido SIM card even though I bought it from Vodafone UK and didn't move back to the US until 2010.)
I remember this absolute beast being the best phone ever made! Everybody desired the N95! Thank you for this another throwback! I hope to see plenty more!
I still have a fully working purple n95 in my drawer! i bought it in 2011, and even though iphones (which had a more modern design) existed, i still felt like the n95 was new, even though it had a numeric keypad, it felt so modern but so nostalgic at the same time. i used as a backup phone until verizon shut down their 3g networks a few months ago. i really loved it, this phone will always have a soft spot in my heart
So many fond memories of this beast, actually the whole Nokia N Series, so many legendary, fun and crazy devices. I had the N90, N91 and the N82, I really miss them. I was surprised to see that the camera still does a decent job, both stills and video. Hope you can bring more of them and also the legendary beast E90 Communicator, it will be fun to compare a foldable phone from the past to the current models. Oh and try to find the 8800 luxury series, these were amazing back in their day, although the s40 OS was horrible.
This is the one I've been waiting for. I rocked this phone for so long! My favourite ever phone. Then I gave it to my Dad and he did the same too. That HMD N95 reboot/homage looked pretty interesting.
I've waited for this vídeo for sooooo long. Thanks Michael for bringing that for us! I still have my N95. It was the phone that brought me here today, loving and always into tech and phone. Even part of my university degree was bound on that phone. Next could bê the N900! Take Care mate!
i'm not crying, it's just nostalgia pouring out of my eyes. i owned this phone and daaaamn, i could not be happier. it was indestructible. dropped it a few times, details scattered everywhere, including a battery falling into snow - not a big deal, collect them all together, put them in place - and here you go, good as new. Miss that beyond words.
"It was also in many way, the last of it's kind." I can't explain the feeling when I hear this. missing the old days when nokia is on its prime (When phones were fun)
Nokoa really were KING at that time, nobody could touch them. I temember browsing theid lineup, and they must have had about 30 different models to choose from, to suit all budgets. And so many customizeable options for some of em, such as "Ex-press-on" covers, so you could change the look of your phone to suit your mood. Nokia were true innovators.
This was the phone that literally jaw-dropping at the time of its launch, both in features and its price tag. That double side slider is iconic, people will always reminded of that double slider everytime they hear the Nokia N95
I used to own N82 and by that time I was thinking it would not get any better than that. GPS, 5MPX auto-focus camera, N-Gage, gyro, accelerometer, Xenon flash ... oh boy it brings back memories
This is one of the legendary devices in UK mobile phone history. This was when Nokia was at its peak. I owned a Nokia n93i at this time and it will always go down as my favourite ever ❤️ Phones were fun fun fun and every device you got was so different and so exciting to open for the first time.
I remember people having the N70 and when the N73 hit the shelves people were so overwhelmed since it had some decent quality speakers (or what we called decent at the time). It was very long till I had something half decent in that regard, but it was amazing how things evolved
I had one of these in the late 2000s. By far the most useful feature to me was the inbuilt GPS. I used it as my in-car navigation device (using a Garmin app) for quite some time. And to think that is a feature everyone takes for granted now!
Ah yes, the amazing N95. My friend had one and the camera was indeed pretty unbelievable at the time. I had a Sony Ericsson K800i and its 3.2MP camera was no match for the Nokias 5 megapixels. Thanks for yet another cool video! I'm really liking this series, brings back a lot of memories from my school days.
This is the highest form of historical technology cataloging! I love seeing these videos of what we used to aspire to in a phone and how it’s changed so much
That HMD re-imagination wasn't bad at all, i wish they would go back to it and make something out of it. Would love to own a Nokia phone again if it were that innovative and creative.
I have 7 plus, bought it 2 years ago and it’s still fine, not even thinking changing it. While my previous devices I was changing them every 1.5-2 years. My first phone was Nokia 6233 in 2006, changed it to N95 8GB (Black one) although the 6233 was still working (and it’s still working until this day, the issue was bad camera and lacking of WiFi and GPS which N95 8GB provided). My N95 however was stolen 2 years later. And I stopped buying Nokia products until the Lumia 1020. Used it also 2 years as main phone but Windows Mobile was going to die and was less and less working apps, although the 1020 is still working today with the 6233. I’m really happy HMD brought Nokia back to life and the quality of product into it with clean android and 2 years of android updates. Waiting now for the 9.3 to get released and get a bit cheaper and buying it. Which will take around a year or so.
A lot of nostalgia is here .. I remember when my nephew bought this phone and start to explain to us it’s amazing features .. we were very excited by it and my nephew was very proud of it 😊❤️ Thank you Michael for reminding us 🌹

Its camera however was incredible.
"The N95 is another reminder" that since Nokia left, innovation has been slowing.
For me when nokia dies there’s no unique phone, from the shape to functionality, i remember staring at phone magazines with nokia all over the pages, and now same shaped brick
in that time, 2007 the camera on n82 was the best, followed by n95. i remember reading about it, n82 best cameraphone in 2007
I think the innovation is advance faster after nokia era, but in functionality and technology.
I had the N95 8GB also........what an amazing phone that was........

The spider man one right
I had this and remember laughing at how little the first iPhone could do compared to it.
@@fiddle_n also he signed it with Cingular, which was then bought out by AT&T
Try saying no to Steve Jobs.
Yeah this had symbian & apple was so basic
Military Anecdote: Way back between 2007 and 2008, this phone formed part of an urban surveillance kit (i.e., surveillance in a city environment) at the time I was deployed with a small team for a year. Well, for some reason, the logistics personnel felt fit to include the Spider-Man DVD as part of the itemized kit supply list. So, for a couple of years, every time one of our teams took over the surveillance mission from a previous team, it had to account for the Spider-Man movie. Go figure.
This is exactly the kind of unique anecdote I love to see on episodes of this series. Thanks for sharing!
Ah, the days when the battle for the best smartphone camera was only between Nokia and Sony Ericsson.
@@eliseoembrador1733 stop copying other people's comments
This phone looks totally usable now to be honest, I can only imagine how beastly it was back then.
5 MP camera! Not long ago, my selfie camera was 5 MP and those were decent photos.
@@jeff4362 for email, no.. tried that on my N86 and N93i, didnt work.. on my friend's E72 also.

N95 was the best in its time. Back then I was so happy. My father bought me one when I entered college.
That Spider-Man 3 edition looked so dope, even back then.
HMD should totally have released this new iteration! The kickstand & a slide in speaker would be amazing on those mid-range Nokia’s.
Partner up with Netflix, $299 with a year of Netflix included and 3 years of Android updates and they would certainly move a few. Feels like a teenagers phone.
The speaker array would have been awesome. With TH-cam consumption not slowing down and apps like TikTok emphasizing music and voice playback, we need better audio more than ever.
@@faeinthebay Nokia has proprietary audio systems in their phones already (OZO Audio), so they could really capitalize on that with this kind of multimedia phone.
The original N95 was a disastrous lemon. I shudder to think what the remake would’ve been

I still have mine sitting in my desk. One of the best phones i've ever had.
I just took mine out. The battery wasn't a spicy pillow, but I appear to have wiped the phone when I stopped using it. (And for some reason it's got a Fido SIM card even though I bought it from Vodafone UK and didn't move back to the US until 2010.)
I've still got mine. It still works too.
And I've still got my Nokia N900 as well.

i think buying a decent phone was much easier back in those days. Now you have to spend more than 500 dollars/euros.
I hope HMD retro’s the 8800 series. I had the 8890, 8801, and the Luna 8600.
This is the one I've been waiting for. I rocked this phone for so long! My favourite ever phone. Then I gave it to my Dad and he did the same too.
That HMD N95 reboot/homage looked pretty interesting.

i'm not crying, it's just nostalgia pouring out of my eyes. i owned this phone and daaaamn, i could not be happier. it was indestructible. dropped it a few times, details scattered everywhere, including a battery falling into snow - not a big deal, collect them all together, put them in place - and here you go, good as new. I remember people having the N70 and when the N73 hit the shelves people were so overwhelmed since it had some decent quality speakers (or what we called decent at the time). It was very long till I had something half decent in that regard, but it was amazing how things evolved
I had n70 & then n95, my bro had n73
The N95 was just so out of this world it's incredible!
I had a Sony Ericsson K800i and its 3.2MP camera was no match for the Nokias 5 megapixels. maybe try buying one of their cheap feature phones. support nokia and tell them what you want. with the right feedback they will listen to us
I have 7 plus, bought it 2 years ago and it’s still fine, not even thinking changing it.
