This was the BEST phone back then. I had one, and when I eventually had to switch to android, it felt like a downgrade. The navigation was so good. It took almost 10 years for other manufacturers to realise the usefulness of gesture navigation.
It's unbelievable how much potential Nokia has thrown away. Countless mistakes of company management. You don't want to believe it. Result, that the company's bad decisions cost first the sale to Microsoft and then the definitive demise of the entire original company. They should have started working on MeeGo earlier, but apparently they stuck to Symbian for too long. Nokia absolutely did not manage the arrival of the iPhone and the rise of Android and the transition to Windows Phone was only a continuation of accelerating the demise of the company.
The symbian phones were all of a 3g technology. With my Nokia E50 I could do everything what I could do with my Nokia Lumia 830 (except use WiFi, whats'app, viber and the camera quality). With MeeGo they could easily do whatever they wanted, it was not late.
As I recall the N9, and the MeeGo OS were killed off by the CEO who came to Nokia from Microsoft and moved the Phone Division over to the Windows OS. I have a N9 which I bought upon it's release, and also have a Motorola Edge+ which is totally swipe operated. The N9, and it's swipe system, really was years ahead of it's time.
Yeah. This was released 10 years ago, and when I bought one it felt like the future, with no buttons at all on the face of the phone. Now a days it's the norm, but back then it was unthinkable.
it's by far the best phone for it's time i've ever owned, i'm using moto edge (2020) with navigation gestures from xda now. BTW you have to turn the N9's date back to 2012 or something for installing apps 😉
It is 2011 phone but its design can keep up to this date, its interface really looks elegant and futuristic imagine how it made 2011 iPhone and Android ugly. And its innovative design benefits phones today. Nokia today is inferior in Android phones I think they need to go back to their feet again with Symbian-Meego and make them open source.

If HMD Global had a head on their damn shoulders they would release a 2022 version of the N9 with Android 12 but with a Meego skin on top... with a 3 camera setup(64mp Main 50x Zoom, 12mp Macro, 12 Telephoto) and a Snapdragon 888+ processor with 8 gigs of RAM Dual Speakers, headphone jack and 6.3 inch AMOLED screen with the most pixels you can fit in on it. 400 Pixels. Gorilla Glass Victus.
Yeah I think the smartphone market is well due for some nostalgia releases. HTC, Nokia, etc. It wasn’t just apple that defined the generation, a sweet N9 re-release, or an HTC with their infamous flip clock front and centre etc would be amazing
if they are smart they make a privacy focused edition of meego harmattan with minimal social media support, just signal/telegram and a TH-cam viewer that is not controlled by google. all google free. a tool to escape the internet bubble we all live in with expandable memory, good camera, headphone Jack and that's really all. not technically hard to do.
Maybe hmd could release experimental phone using android core, but with meego OS on everything.. so it can side load android apps like amazon device.. Design of the phone must be in fabula, with minimal refinement..
Or maybe we could try to get the word out about Jollyboys and Sailfish OS. They have an upcoming community phone for preorder. Jollyboys owns Sailfish OS and is not bankrupt. Jolla might go bankrupt, but it doesn't matter. I wouldn't buy an Android with Meego skin. If I'm forced to use android I want it as vanilla as possible.
My n9 expect to arrive today! This is my second n9. The best phone ever.. I love the OS, Ui, hold in hand.. perfect.. Maybe will put some mp3.. i plan to use it as my mp3 player.. just hope it works with bluetooh earbuds.
I have an N950 (Developer Edition) - But I unfortunately physically damaged the screen after dropping it several times on concrete while running over the course of a few months. The rest of the phone works fine but the screen just doesn't light up. I also have the N9. My N900 (Maemo) was stolen from my backpack back in 2011 when I was a student at University.
Ah that sucks man..I never take my prototype phones outside the house …I have a 820 and Blackberry Z30 dev kit but I always wanted to get a N950 but their abit too expensive and the one on eBay has a black spot on its display so I will have to wait…I got a Lumia Mclaren Prototype device instead…it’s nice to see unreleased or dev kit only devices
@@Techformative557 I can unreservedly tell you that both the N950 and N900 were absolutely Amazing. You could basically run any software that could be installed on a Debian Linux machine on them and it would work just fine with little to no porting. On the train and bus, I would have terminal running and code stuff on my phone as effortlessly as I would on my laptop or my stationary jerry-rigged homemade mainframe. I could even remotely access all my other computing devices and appliances through both phones from anywhere in the world. People would look at me like though I was Neo or something. 😂😂😂
The last flagship symbian phone like n8 and c7 use an amoled display too, i used to have nokia c7 and the display really beautiful for that time., and despite the n9 screen is amoled but is there any issue like flickering,dead pixel or shadow after a long year ?, coz samsung device really have that issue after a few years using.
There is no Nokia anymore, but the developers of Meego started Jolla and now moved to Jollyboys and got the Russians out of Sailfish OS. I wish they would get some popularity. It would change the world for better.
But if HMD Global would licence Sailfish OS from Jollyboys I would buy one without any hesitation. I'm thinking about buying an supported Sony Xperia or the upcoming Community phone.
Great video! I got my Nokia N9 as a collectable in 2021. I really enjoy MeeGo, which led to my growing curiosity about SailfishOS - its closest modern successor. The N9 I bought was from China. Outside of the many Chinese mobile apps (that were preinstalled and cannot be deleted!) the experience was largely the same as what you’ve shown here. Unfortunately my N9 is basically useless on the internet because of constant wifi drops. But I do get some use out of it as a camera / media player. For some reason the method you’ve shown to add apps didn’t come close to working for me. If I was able to get as far as you did I would have considered it a big success -lol. The Search app for some reason was unable to locate any apps I added to the internal storage. Despite this I ran into no problems adding music, photos, videos, and pdf docs. But I don’t expect much from a smartphone this old. What it does well is more than enough for me. Awesome channel by the way.

This phone make Android and IOS be shame, 11 years ago and have lot features that in Android and IOS recently have, what could be Nokia if they would continue support they new phones with MeeGo? If I could guess, MeeGo easily won to Android and IOS but Apple would put more effort to compete and windows well would be the same results jaja. Also on 808PV, front camera can't be opened without additional app. But on Symbian it still can be installed
