Shalom! Here's a lesson I did which explains the prefix "ha". I recommend that you watch it because there are many rules to understand regarding it. The Hebrew prefix "ha" th-cam.com/video/6M7t7TpNhQ8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uw7vNwhZ4DVfOc1J
Shalom. Fantastic instruction. At 9:01, what if we drop the ‘hu’ - is it possible to have just “Zeh sefer shel David”? And is it ok to change the order - “Sefer zeh hu shel David”?
Shalom, Thanks for your appreciation. In answer to your questions: My example is expressing "This is David's book." You cannot drop the hu. That's why it says: Zeh hu sefer shel David. זהו ספרו של דוד. And if you start by saying Sefer zeh..., you are expressing " This book is the book of David. In this case, you don't use shel but you say it like this: Sefer zeh hu sefer David. This book is the book of David. ספר זה הוא ספר דוד.
Toda raba for your reply! So is it correct at 6:37 to also say “Zo hi matanah shel Sarah” & “Zeh ha sefer shel David”? Look forward to your videos, esp those ‘compare & contrast’ videos - comparing similar sounding words, sentences with different order & why one is wrong.
Thank you so much for your videos! 🙏 They explain a lot of things I need to know and in a systematic way that fits me :) BUT in this video there's an issue around 8:40-9:00 minutes that confuses me: You compare one masculine and one feminine sentence, but they are constructed in two different ways: "Zehu sefer shel David" (זהו ספר של דוד) and "Zo hamatana shel Sarah" (זו המתנה של שרה) In English they mean the same: This is David's book/Sarah's gift. My questions are: 1) Could the masculine sentence also be written "Ze hasefer schel David" (זה הספר של דוד), exactly as the feminine sentence is constructed, and still mean the same? 2) Could the feminine sentence also be written "Zohi matana schel Sara" (זהי מתנה של שרה), close to how the masculine sentence is constructed, and still mean the same? Thank you in advance! 😊
Hello. Thanks for your appreciation. Yes, you have understood correctly. It is possible to say Ze ha'sefer shel David, just as in the feminine example.
Hi. Demonstrative pronouns are usually written after a noun. For example: Ha'bayit ha'zeh gadol. Literally, it's saying "The house" "the this" is big. הבית הזה גדול. So the noun "house" is followed by the demonstrative pronoun "ha zeh". In English, we say "This house is big" ( Where the demonstrative noun "this" is followed by the noun "house". In Hebrew, we say "Ha bayit ha'zeh gadol". That is saying "The house this is big."
Hi Thank you very much for explainaion of hebrew. As a matter of fact, the method of teaching is amazing also the slow of reading and explaining the lessons have encourage me to follow your interesting and beautiful videod. My thanks to you is untold ! אני לומד העברית. את מורה תוב 🌻👍🌻
Sorry, İ didn't understand, you said zeh hu sefer, and zo ha matana, why is it not zo he matana. And you said ha zeh tov, but ha zo gadolah, why is it not tova
Hi. Hu means "he", referring to a masculine subject. Zeh means "this" if you talk about a male subject. However, "Zo" means "this" if talking about a feminine subject. Note that sefer is a masculine subject, so we say zeh to refer to it. Matana is a feminine subject so we use "Zo". I recommend that you watch this lesson on how gender affects nouns and adjectives so that you can better understand how nouns and adjectives behave with regards to gender and number: th-cam.com/video/YLyOB3k3o4E/w-d-xo.html
I probably should not … But it is tooo tempting… When certain elements would like to be called by the pronouns of their choice… eg זה, זאת, זו, זו They are using demonstrative pronouns… To demonstrate their standpoint… So they would prefer to be called: it/this/this one ☝️ And I am not going to be careful! I am direct and to the point! I have had my life totally wrapped inside out, people judging me by looking at my TH-cam account, hacking my iPhone, manipulating Siri yada, Even if I state that I am not gay, I have been harassed by gay men. I used to be understanding all though not gay… I can’t understand why I have to accept old overweighted ugly women hitting on me, just because I was polite when shopping food at the supermarket. Don’t tell me I can’t have a bit fun too! And it is ridiculous, if you want to be called it/this/this one and make the whole world know how homophobe they are. Canceling culture and woke! That is ridiculous! Full stop!
Super valuable lesson, thank you very much. With that being said at 12:30, 14:23 you pronounce אלה with a hard chet 'ח' sound at the end instead of hei 'ה' sound which changes the meaning of the word from "these" (אֶלֶה) to I will go (אֶלֶךְ) . Love the material and your soft calming voice. 😇
Thanks a lot for your kind words and for pointing out the chet sounds. I wasn't aware that it was coming across like that. It's good to know so that I can pay more attention to it. Best regards!
Thankyou so much please make more videos

@@hebrew4learners awesome to hear that and תודה רבה

I am currently learning hebrew and enjoy your content. If there are pronouns for groups of men and women, what if the group is mixed?
Shalom! I'm glad that you enjoy the videos. If a group has at least one male, it is considered male.
Best regards!

Thank you so much for your videos! 🙏 They explain a lot of things I need to know and in a systematic way that fits me :)
BUT in this video there's an issue around 8:40-9:00 minutes that confuses me:
You compare one masculine and one feminine sentence, but they are constructed in two different ways:
"Zehu sefer shel David"
(זהו ספר של דוד)
and
"Zo hamatana shel Sarah"
(זו המתנה של שרה)
In English they mean the same: This is David's book/Sarah's gift.
My questions are:
1) Could the masculine sentence also be written "Ze hasefer schel David" (זה הספר של דוד), exactly as the feminine sentence is constructed, and still mean the same?
2) Could the feminine sentence also be written "Zohi matana schel Sara" (זהי מתנה של שרה), close to how the masculine sentence is constructed, and still mean the same?

Yes you can say Zo hi matana shel Sarah.

Hi. Hu means "he", referring to a masculine subject. Zeh means "this" if you talk about a male subject. However, "Zo" means "this" if talking about a feminine subject.
