I remember Elizabeth's abduction and when she was found alive, I was shocked that she was alive. It is rare for a child who was abducted and held captive and abused for long periods of time, survived and reunite with their families, it was a miracle and so many have followed: Shawn Hornbeck, Jaycee Lee Dugard, and the three Cleveland Girls. Even though innocence was taken from them, they held on to one thing, something that was never taken from them. Hope, hope that they will one day return home.
To the children that are still missing: wherever you are and if you're still alive don't lose hope, whatever monsters are saying your mamas and daddies and your brothers and sisters love you and they miss you, don't give up 🙏👪💗
The little sister Mary Catherine is the real hero for remembering a certain voice and a man that was at their house before! Claiming the name of Emmanuel.
smart girl, also Thank God for Watch Dogs and Burglar Alarms, I've got them at my house, so that if any creep comes around, He won't stand a chance with my two German Shepherd Dogs, One German Shepherd's name is Duke, I've got him from a friend of mine named Laura, She and her Family were moving away, they sold most of what they had, but No-one would want Duke, they had only two options, one is to give him away and the other is taken him to the animal shelter, That's when I stepped in and took him to my house, The other German Shepherd's Name is Bam-Bam, I've got Him from a local animal shelter, they were having their anniversary, I saw him, and I adopted him, He and Duke got along just fine, At First Duke was a little Timid of Bam-Bam, But then over the week He got used to having Him Around, They made a Great Team, They were right with me when I was doing my morning Jog, They even chased Squirrels, I remember one time, I almost had a visitor, It happened when I was sitting in the living room watching TV, until someone was sneaking up toward the house, Until I heard Duke and Bam-Bam Barking, They were raising a Ruckus, I looked out a window and saw someone running away, I quickly got the License plate number on the car, and called the police, another week later I found out that Person had been looking through other people's trash can, I was relieved for Duke and Bam-Bam, They were watching the person coming toward my trash can, until he saw them and ran off.
Another thing I really love is the love shared amongst each other in this family. Love and respect for each other. It's a blessing.
It was so sweet how the younger sister said she knew it all along that Elizbeth was still alive when the rest of the family had given up
They totally watered down Elizabeth's story in this movie. There were no references to her repeated rapes, starvation, or how she manipulated her captors. It's important to SHOW what happened so people can understand the horrors of what girls like her endure and be motivated to prevent them in the future.
tybrands The reason Elizabeth's story was "watered down" was because this movie was told mostly from the parents' POV.

+tybrands At the time, it was probably too difficult to make Elizabeth relive all of that or witness it happening to an actress who is supposed to be her. She is much more open about it now, but I imagine the healing process was very long and painful for her.

Yeah in the book it said her little brother didn't hug her right away also I think they said her grandparents had the little kids they weren't all at the police station like they showed

I was so thankful that Elizabeth was still alive. Yet what she must've went through will probably be a scar in her heart forever. Alot of teen girls and children sadly are not so lucky. How traumatizing that there are people out in this world that kidnap someone else's daughter or any child for that matter. I remember reading that Kenneth Parnell who kidnapped Steven Stayner, his accomplice paid a high school student $1,000 to lure a 5 yo kid to this guy. I was so shocked. What the hell is wrong with people? Thankfully Steven got ahold of the little boy and brought him to the police for safety. As well as himself. And as we all know unfortunately Steven Stayner died a few yrs later from a motorcycle accident. God we need more heroes and less Predators/Pedophiles.
OMG I'm so happy that she was reunited because a lot of kids who have been kidnapped escape and never know who their parents are until they are either like already 27or something or their parents are dead.

Janie Doe I've read all of their books and Michelle, Gina, and Amanda's story are absolutely heartbreaking but heroic. I know Elizabeth made a statement when they were found. I've wondered if they've have any desire to meet as well... Those girls lived through Hell and I'm glad they're here to talk about it. BtW Is this full movie anywhere on YT?
This movie still makes me cry!
I used to love this movie. I just saw the world premiere of I Am Elizabeth Smart on Lifetime. They don't even compare. The Elizabeth Smart Story, while a brilliant telling at the time, is a watered down at best version because it was the only film available at the time due to Elizabeth literally just being rescued. I would call it the PG version of what really happened and say it's more suitable for families with children. However, if you really want the gravitas of what REALLY happened to Elizabeth Smart, I Am Elizabeth Smart is your movie, NOT The Elizabeth Smart Story . I Am Elizabeth Smart is at least PG13, but I think it makes The Elizabeth Smart Story look like a kids movie!

I am Elizabeth Smart was more true to the fact of what actually happened to her. That’s why it was more emotional to me. As it was produced and narrated by Elizabeth herself. This movie was almost nothing like her actual story. It had elements of the truth but there was a lot missing and a lot they got wrong.
Emily Mancia in this they show her mom at the police station in the other movie they have her mom show up at the hospital in this one they have the the whole family at the station to when in fact they weren’t there because Ed and Louis didn’t wanna get their hopes up Elizabeth said she was later reunited with her siblings later in the day she also said that her little brother didn’t remember her and didn’t hug her right away
Chloe Wrigley the Elizabeth’s smart story seemed like it was more about her family then her when in I am Elizabeth was definitely her story both were good movies tho
@Chloe Wrigley well The Elizabeth Smart Story was released only 8 months after she was found, so we didn't know a lot about what happened to her. I am Elizabeth Smart was released 15 years after her abduction

How so sad that there are men and women in this world who are willing to kidnap another man and womans child for their own sick evil purposes. They know it's wrong yet they do it. Just like that guy in OH. Who kidnapped those three different girls and held them captive for nearly a decade. Then once he got caught and taken into custody he took the COWARD's way out and hung himself. What a God forsaken loser. Just remember predators ur always being watched too. God sees all.

I do know and I am not afraid to be held to a standard that scares an atheist so much they deny their creator. The same science that proves he doesn't proves he does. So I guess it's a matter of choice. I would rather error on the side he does, than turn my back on him and find out after it's to late. Once you pass behind the veil there's no turning back.

I had no idea Amber Marshall played in this movie. It's my favorite lifetime movie and Heartland is my favorite animal show!

On a side note....this was filmed in Vancouver wasn't it Cause that news van at the end looks like a CTV news van...with the C removed and an L painted on....... you can even see the black space where the C use to be.

Was so happy when I heard that she was found alive that was when I was 12 and I hated that through out high school even when I was in United States Army that the kidnappers had not gone to trial and that it took so long

Elizabeth Smart was a beautiful "little girl" and her story is sad but things like this happen everyday to many children but there is isn't news coverage of them probably because of race at least for one thing. No judgement, just a fact.
It's also a money thing. Elizabeth's family lives in a million dollar home. But remember the little white girl who went missing in Utah some years ago, who was later found to have been killed by a neighbor? I think her last name was Norton but I'll have to look it up. She was white but her family was poor. She didn't get any media coverage while she was missing. Someone had to raise a ruckus about the lack of coverage before the case got any.
The police gave up on Elizabeth but not her family. The police thought Richard Ricci did it. So, no matter how much money you have or not-the Smarts took the law in their own hands and got the investigation going in the right direction. After law enforcement ( have other cases) to deal with it is -much of the time- it's the family that with no matter how much money- continue to search. You have to have hope, patience and more patience and determination to continue and that does not cost a dime.

You would think after all Elizabeth has been through they would make an accurate movie with good actors in it to tell her story aye? But instead they get horrible actors, tell the story wrong, water down the details and a lot of other important details. Highly disappointed.
