    Glad to hear you're getting better. When you two were pulling at the wheel, I was convinced it might suddenly free itself, causing a broken nose! I was told to leave the wheel nut loosely in place to avoid that. The new wheel looks very good.

      Unfortunately on the P4 there is only a pinch bolt that has to be fully removed to take wheel off. There is no nut on the end like most wheels x

    A super episode and a joy to find your hard work. Jessie’s steers wheel is an object of beauty when completed to present day ones. You should keep it and maybe later on have worn done on it as others have said.
    So glad your feeling better and take care.

    It could get confusing, having Betty the Ford Galaxy and Betty the Ford Fairmont (Ian from Hubnut's car). For a moment there I thought there was going to be a collaboration between you and Ian..! Glad you're recovering.

    Even new cars are at least three or four miles per hour out, meaning you are less likely to be over the maximum speed limit. Manufacturers don't want you to be fined for speeding. By law they can't under regulate speedo's but they can and do over regulate slightly.

    On the topic of oil leaks , you can get a polymer from the USA called CT - 205 (or something similar ) that is supposed to "rejuvenate " rubber oil seals and other rubber parts.
    It comes highly recommended by "Scotty Kilmer" if u look out for his TH-cam videos he's mentioned it a few times. This stuff may be worth trying to save u from changing that oil seal again : )

    Just thinking, if your speedo is showing you are going faster than you are, won't that clock up more miles on the clock , this would only matter if you are on a restricted miles policy.

    Hi Alex. I'm watching your videos with renewed interest as I've just bought a P4 100 myself, in need of moderate repairing and general recommissioning. I might pick your brain in the future as to who can supply what. (I'm in Australia BTW.) On your steering wheel, should you fancy trying to fix your old one, you could fill the cracks with epoxy glue. You can colour the glue with a squirt from a spray can while mixing it, and it still hardens fine. On the Galaxie, Betty just doesn't sit well with me for its name. How about Gaylord? Cheers.

    Your video is so funny, And to consider your an AA technician Funny content..
    I know these days if you break down at side of road the basic skills are Wheel changing which I really hate and possible battery change which I also struggle..I take stuff off and don't have everything back on.. like my battery blanket that looks like a plastic cover..
    What year is Jessy..?
    For a long time I have been searching for a Morris Minor 2 door Saloon (bit hatchback) with 2 doors 4 door saloon and Traveller totally estate.
    Growing up in 1960 era my dad had our first family car a black 1954 Morris Minor 2 door with red interior.. OWK In the registration I've search registrations but can't come close to my dads..
    The last few weeks I have seen one and its priced within my budget, but I don't have anywhere tidy or safe to park it. And I struggle a bit maintaining the motors I already have odd one is neglected and all outdoors..
    But with the 20 mile speed limit I really think this Morris is the car for the daily driver.. My most loved cars Are my 2007 Audi estate 2.7 TDI and my recent purchase of my Jaguar 4.0 2001 I don't drive either of the month of December and January my Audi is 191.000 miles and my current daily is the lowest mileage car on my fleet at 92.000 but other day I froze driving the car it was lovely with sun out and was nearly tempted to drive (topless)my Astra Twin top is hard top convertible It drove to London and back on £30.
    But I think it was far more as my needle was the lower end its weird because my car don't have a temp gauge..? I am hoping its only a fuse gone because blower don't work..
    Keep up these good video.. Happy 2024 XXXX oH ALEX 'S Carry on or Confessions Of a Female AA mechanic...
    Bless this house was on over Christmas well my moggy looks in far better condition I guess it should be at 100 times more than the one he bought.. (Robin Askwith)

    Great work Alex. You probably already know that older car speedos can be up to 10% out, faster than the true road speed as they are not calibrated like a tachograph in a large vehicle. Large vehicles fitted with tachographs have to have them calibrated every 2 years, Romy would know about all that sort of thing. Your steering wheel looks fantastic. Why not have the old steering wheel refurbished?

    • @Alexsassets
      @Alexsassets  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No need for my wheel to be refurbished now i have a mint one 😄

      If I remember correctly, they can be out by a few percent of the MPH, but they can not, by law, under read your actual speed. They are calibrated to the highest profile tyre size the manufacturer fits to that model. Fitting lower profile tyres will make your speedo read even higher than your actual speed. Have you tried a little oil down the speedo cable, Alex ? After years of use, they dry out, and you get needle fluttering or sticking. If you do swap the speedo head, make sure it matches in every way, including all the serial numbers, and any reference digits, as there could be many variants fitted across the whole P4 range.

    • @brianwhittington5086
      @brianwhittington5086 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Alexsassets Was it a NOS part speedo cable Alex ? You could still have a problem with the 50 - 60 years old original lubricant breaking down with age and turning to crystals. You may also find the light machine grease in the instrument has dried out and needs cleaning and refreshing. Check that you don't have any tight radius curves in the cable run too, especially up behind the dashboard. It might be worth pulling the drive cog out of the gearbox and checking it for wear, especially with the amount of gearbox oil you had lost. They're usually a nylon type cog that acts on a bevel gear cog in the transmission. Any uneven wear or burred edges on the gear will cause sticking and flutter further up the drive. Also, check it turns smoothly if it has a right angled addaptor drive coming out of the gearbox. The output drive are usually just lubricated by oil splash and capillary creep, so a low level in the gearbox could soon starve it of oil and lead to wear. It doesn't take much wear or dryness in any of the parts to give the annoying flutter, and sticking needle.

      @@brianwhittington5086 you are correct in what you are saying and old vehicles could show you were doing 30mph but in reality you were probably in the region of 27mph. If they left the factory accurate, which I doubt. They would not stay that way for years on end.

  • @brianwhittington5086
    @brianwhittington5086 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Alex, the wheel should easily slide on or off. You probably burred the splines slightly, struggling to get the wheel off the first time around, you may need to just true them up with a needle file. Don't bin your old wheel, you can dig out those cracks, then fill with resin and refinish with the correct Plasticote type paint finish. There are several companies that will professionally remove the old plastic, remould in resin and refinish the steering wheel rim and hub using original style moulds. Obviously, that would depend on the metal and chrome parts being serviceable.

      @Alexsassets Is your Land Rover steering wheel OK, or is it in need of a bit of TLC ? They should be the same fitting / spline / size on series LR models as used on the P4. It's always handy to have a good spare ready to use.😁
