I've watched this enough times on Pluto TV that I recognize places I've been through already. This satisfies some of the urge to hit the road when I'm between interstate driving vacations.
Wow!!! What you have sent me is an absolute visual treat and I will love the time it will take me to see it all. I used to travel a lot but about 2 years ago I had a minor stomach ailment and an exploratory operation showed very early and very deadly pancreatic cancer. I was blessed that they caught it so early but it has taken me two years to regain my health (am in total remission currently) and I am somewhat confined to staying close to home for now. Your amazing videos are almost as good as being there and they are a lot easier than attempting to be there currently. Again thank you for all of your responses. My grandpa was from Trondheim in the late 1800's and I really can't wait to see that part of the world in person. KH
I did this journey last June; in fact I started my trip from Oslo. Absolutely beautiful country and very welcoming people. As good as this video is; it doesn't do justice to the fantastic scenery.
You should read about this tracks construction during the occupation in WW2. Alot of Serbian, Ukranian and Russian prisoners of war died building it. Very sad. But yes, it is a very beautiful ride and the fishing up north is fantastic.
I love these videos but would SO love to also see SIDEVIEW videos of these trips in addition to cabviews. After all, when I visit, I won't be in the cab of the train but will be looking out the side windows!
I would like to see, if possible, an updated version considering the amount of infrastucture changes on this video.I would also like to see a list of stations that the train stops at. It is great video of one of the most scenic rail trips in the world.
I have felt the same way. Here is a partial update posted by one of the drivers from 2020. Unfortunately it is only from Trondheim to Mosjøen as that is the only stretch he works. th-cam.com/video/v64yOHMHF5E/w-d-xo.html
This is awesome! I'm always surprised by the landscape of other countries. I envisioned Norway to be all rocky, rough terrain - this is a gorgeous country. The railway seems amazingly smooth too, very little sound coming from the track relative to those here in the US
I prefer the NRK program with cuts between and among the seasons. But it is also interesting to watch the run in one season only. I prefer Spring for the mostly fair weather, but summer is nice for more greenery.
At 7:17:00 we get to see the southbound version of the same type of train... nice! This happens just a few km south of the Arctic Circle. Almost anywhere else in the world this far north is frozen tundra.
Thanks for sharing these clips. I travelled on this line in 1983 when it was all loco hauled by Di4/Di3 locos. A shame they cannot be released on DVD as while there are ways to save clips and watch at leisure, strictly speaking this is not permitted by YT ;) .
A lovely ride but if a company is going to create this type of extensive tape you would think they would take production values into consideration. For example the entire summer tape journey is way under exposed. Check out the correct exposure coming out of each tunnel and see the much, much higher quality of image for a brief few seconds. Again a great attempt but this outfit needs a professional videographer on board. If there was such that person did not do his job very well.
Exiting tunnels is a well known issue and I agree that it could have been handled better. But I guess that most viewers in the main target groups won't notice that type of details. Railway-buffs focus solely on the rail traffic aspects, while general Slow-TV fans just want to relax. It is a bit dark, that's true, but it still feels quite realistic and familiar. I was able to guess the date without reading the description. That dull, greyish light is typical for the pre-autumn season. And while the nights still are short, you will get long periods of subtle twilight during mornings and evenings. The weather isn't exactly great for filming either. Overcast and showers gives rapidly shifting light conditions. You can either compensate for it, or just leave it as it is. It depends on your resources, and on what kind of result you want.
Autre passion :.
Finally arrived in Bodo after watching this captivating film. I was almost sad when it ended! I enjoyed the scenery immensely and hope I can make it to Norge some day to REALLY experience it. Good job! If you make films like this in the future, could you show the name of the location when the train makes a stop (i.e. Fauske)? It was impossible (not your fault, of course) to see the station signs. I ask as I was following along the train route using Google Earth and many of the stops were almost impossible to identify. Also: along the route there were many poles, with an "X" on them with what looked like signals that have been turned sideways (one example is at 6:36:14 ). Are these decommissioned railway signals?
Just wanted to emphasize that I wasn't concerned about the gloomy aspect of the views. I was concerned that a ton of this video was shot at the wrong exposure and that greatly defines the color and quality of the landscape and its surroundings. Again if you will note when the train comes out of a tunnel at first it is graphically overexposed and then it is correctly exposed showing a beautiful rendering of the landscape. But then the lens closes down once again not allowing enough light to get in and rendering the surroundings dull and dead looking. Norway is a gorgeous country and when someone videos it correctly these cab ride videos will be a wonder to behold. But again, thank you for your efforts thus far. They are appreciated!!!
"О старом, о странном, о безбольном, О вечном слагалось его нытье, Звучало мне звоном колокольным, Ввергало в истому, в забытье. Мы видели горы, лес и воды, Мы спали в кибитках чужих равнин, Порою казалось - идем мы годы, Казалось порою - лишь день один."
Thanks for the nice responses. I don't want you to think I am not appreciative of the effort and I did not mean to be over critical. I note the Taiwan videos have the same problem and it seems, on closer examination, that the poor exposure is caused not by lens exposure but by reflections in the cabin that haze and dull the windshield area. In any event keep up the nice work and it is really most appreciated.

No light on the train or in the tunnel is so dangerous and unsafe. Suppose there are fallen rocks break off in the tunnel? Lovely scenery and clean place.
It would be so nice to see the traffic lights between Mo i Rana and Bodø, which were not yet turned on at that time, the Merkur system, which was supposed to turn Nordlandsbanen into an even better railway line, but it turned out to be a failure.... It never were abble to working, now they waiting for another bullshit system ERTMS, and already have same problem with turn on it.
Is that a fine? Or the cost to clean up? In some areas in North America they try to save as much meat as possible and donate it to food banks or soup kitchens to feed the unfortunate. I see too that you uploaded a Fall run. Will there be a winter run soon? I'd like to see how deap the snow gets in some of those passes.
And that's the old one. There was a new one built around 2017 (this footage is from 2012); it is to the left of the one in this video. Of course the track was re-aligned, but the entire trackage from the tunnel to the bridge was reconfigured as well.

I've done the Oslo - Bergen trip both physically and many times on video so I also found this captivating...it's on the bucket list.
This whole line needs to be electrified, have digital signalling, and speed increased, to make the train faster than driving, and cheaper than flying.
@@ncard00I enjoy this video because it doesn't have the electric lines. I hope we can get a 4k version before such an electrification occurs.
It's lovely, but as it's Nov 20, I'm joining the winter trip to see the snow!! 😊
Lille, France

Anyone notice the baby fawn cross the tracks @ 6:12:26 , the only wildlife ive seen in this video , pretty cool !!!

So would I. Has the line been electrified? Or is it still diesel-electric territory?
See videos here th-cam.com/users/harduis for portions between Trondheim and Mosjøen.
