Is the Subaru Crosstrek CHANGED for 2021?

  • The Crosstrek is the do-it all small SUV in Subaru's lineup. For 2021 there are some updates, especially a new Sport trim option with more power. Under the hood of this Crosstrek is a 2.0L flat-4 that is producing 152HP & mated to a CVT transmission. On the outside you will find changes made for the new model year to the front fascia, and wheels. On the inside you will still find plenty of great space and usability. Is the Subaru Crosstrek CHANGED for 2021?

    Having owned a 2016 Crosstrek Limited (put 42,000 miles on it) and then upgraded to a 2019 Crosstrek Premium last July (put 13,000 miles on it since new), I actually enjoy driving the car and hear the sound of the engine (yes, I have a XM satellite radio subscription on the car). My commute to work each way is about 25 miles and there are times when I just drive....no radio or any other distractions. The 2.0 liter is ok but it's not as bad as most people make it out to be.

A little underpowered IMO and the higher tier trims are overpriced, but if you can negotiate a discount from a well-established Subaru dealership, you're in business! I test drove the sport trim a few days ago. The 2.5 does add power but it’s still not quick, however, I think it will do well with sales. I didn’t buy it because of the CVT. The sport trim should have the option of a 6 speed manual.

    • @confidentlocal8600

      I haven't driven the Sport but am in a similar situation. I considered a Premium with the 6-speed. I'd gladly pay an up-charge for a 6-speed manual on the Sport. The hint that the 2.0L should be ditched in favor of the CVT is that the fuel economy goes up with the larger engine as the 2.0L is working too hard. I chose to not drive a crosstrek for a test drive given how anemic it is, which gets magnified by the CVT. I would like to see a 2.5NA as the base engine, with a small displacement turbo as the optional one, along with an 8 spd auto tranny. Doubt Subaru will ever make my Crosstrek STI, so they should not be surprised when I buy a Kona N, or Mazda 2.5T as my next CUV purchase.

Living in Honolulu, I no longer want bigger vehicles, and this Crosstrek would be great here in Hawaii if I need to go to places like the beach ir elsewhere away from pavement, while being great street vehicle with good cargo capacity, especially with the available bigger engine. Something the needed, but normally aspirated but not too much power to kill the CVT. I sm sn enthusiast, but older, so don't feel the need to thrash it, just enjoy it for what it was made for. But thus is great as a base model for the price with the great AWD.

    I live in Hawaii go over Koolau Mt. Range Pali Hwy. & H3. The Subaru is a very good car up & down the mt. range even in heavy rain feel safe. Mine is six speed manual much more reliable and fun to drive than the CVT. It kind of sucks that the base & premium trim don't get the 2.5L engine. Still can work the 2L with six speed manual to get rpm up for little more power when you need it. The best trans for that 2.5L is the manual.

    That Crosstrek is really nice for the price as a base model. But the news of the 2021 Sport and higher trims with the 2.5L from the Forester is a big plus. When I rented that Firester a year ago fir my house move, I didn't have time to enjoy it, but thought even at a base trim, it was nice, except for the base wheels and hubcaps. It seemed like it had lots of power for the size, pribably even better in the Crosstrek. I think the Sport would be great if it's offered with theurvoremium sound system, or if they still offer the Rockford Fosgate factory accessory upgrade option. I would seriously consider that for an SUV if I needed one. The perfect size and now with the power, and enough ability to go off road here in Hawaii in case I needed it like I could have used about 14 years ago for work out in different locations. Anticipating the Crosstrek Sport video review.

    With only 8 miles on the vehicle and when people full throttle it up like that on the road really makes me cringe. Cars now adays are getting better but realistically you should baby it up until at least 400 miles to wear it in and keep the engine in tip top shape.

So very keen to see what its like with the Sport 2.5L engine, just like my Gen 5 Outback has. just wish they would start using some turbo's in our region. It means you no longer can remove the calipers at home and you have to go to the dealership. Plus if you break one of those your screwed. Plus if the caliper seizes up you can’t just cut the caliper off and reduce the cable, you have to remove the computer that controls that electronic brake. No thanks I will stick with a handbrake. It’s simple, if it breaks it easy to fix.

    • @mattmekhaeil
      @mattmekhaeil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Wright you’re right about that. I don’t mind having it in the car the old fashioned handbrake without it the interior will look better have a little more room. For all the new expansive cars out in the market they shouldn’t have a handbrake they should have a electric one. I understand the cheaper cars have one based on the trims
