- In todays' video we get the engine turning over in the Skoda Octavia VRS3, but can we get it to run? I quickly start encountering more issues than I can solve though so we need to make a decision,

Fit the engine into the RSQ3 and wait for a breaker RS3
Best option in my opinion. 👍
If I was you I'll use the engine for the Q3 get that up and running and back on the road👍
Dean, you could rent an electric pallet truck for moving those motors 😉
Fit the engine into the rsq3 and wait for breaker rs3
Yes
Gotta give it to Dean pushing cars around fixing them solo, unlike other TH-camrs who have teams around them shouting YESSSS at every small gain. Genuine guy, genuine channel!
other main ones are properly tiresome. all sponsored by flippin car vertical
Thanks mate!
Exactly 😊
If you're referring to Mat Armstrong, he also started small with a single Audi without any help. He just grew, and now people don't like that. Seems a bit unfair because on the other hand, people do like supercars getting fixed (look at the numbers, is what I'm saying) So people can make TH-cam content but as soon as they start making a living out of it it's annoying? I love this channel as much as I love others, to be honest. Both guys are doing great but you can't please everyone.
@@ardonjr I too am subscribed to Mats channel and yes he has come a long way and should rightly be commended for his success, however I do find the over enthusiastic shouting a little wearing if not a touch disingenuous.
100% use the engine to repair the rsq3 get that running and moved on then find a breaker for a facelift rs3
The issue is copart no longer have breakerbid4u service so unless you have a breakers license you are unable to purchase cat b cars
Fit it in the rsq3, been watching your videos for a good while now and wanted to do something myself, so bought a 2000 x audi tt to fix up with my kids, paid only £200 for it, been working on it for the past few weeks and goes for its mot on monday, enjoyed every minute of it and my kids have learnt many new swear words!!
Well done! Practice makes perfect.
@@SavingSalvageyeah the kids will learn new words in no time 😂
Love seeing this type of comment well done mate your kids won’t forget working with you on cars that’s for sure. As Dean says practice makes perfect keep at it and take it on some road trips and track days once it’s done!
Deffo fit it to RSQ3, it’s a no brainer and gets one car out of the way and some revenue back in.
An opportunity to sort the Skoda will present itself.
No brainer to me, put the engine in the Q3 and get a facelift engine for the Skoda. Also just a thought, I'd invest in a Motorcycle trickle charger which is designed to be on constant charge over a winter so you can connect whenever you have a car in the unit and it will keep it charged. I have one on a spare battery that's been on for years and the battery is great and charged. Better than using jump packs to have a charged battery ready to fit and go.
Fair play Dean- extremely impressed with your knowledge diving-in on wiring etc 👍
Have you seen the humble mechanic on here? he’s just completed a complete Daza swap into a Golf R. Could help with this conversion for you. Buying a breaker is the way forward for sure 🤙🏻
Great channel and lovely build!
A DAZA into another MQB chassis is more straight forward than a CZGB into a MQB car. The wiring architecture is similar MQB to MQB.
Maybe that is the power of this channel : showing the footage where things going wrong, instead pretending everything is going smooth and well.... I don t have any idea about those engines and what you are asking what choice to make with these engines, but i still love to watch this channel because some how i learn something about how and why cars work and why sometimes not. So even for somebody who now s nothing about engines and Technic from cars still like this channel, because you are explaining to peoples like me and making this even for me nice watch ! So keep on going the way you present your stories and i will be following on every episode ! Good Luck with those engines !!
Absolutely love this channel probably the best one there is. I’ve actually getting a little bit fed up of some of the others but I watch I won’t actually say too much but too much money ruins people sometimes.
Liked it before watching because man’s videos are on point every time
As my knowledge about engines and anything mechanical is zero I can`t give an opinion as to which engine to use. What I can say though is that I am totally impressed by your knowledge and abilities with all aspects of cars and their workings. I am so glad I found your channel and I sit here totally amazed as you make your transformations from wreck to a beautifully finished car .Your explanations of what you are doing are excellent and very enjoyable to watch. Whatever engine you choose to use in the Octavia I am sure it will turn out to be a great success.
Dean I was knackered just watching you move the two cars as other's have said you do the job start to finish on your own mostly so well done great job
John
I’m happy either way. One of my favourite TH-camrs so what ever content comes il be watching and liking , commenting 👍
Yet another brilliant vag group video cheers Dean. Just wish I had you're knowledge on vw audi
A very realistic video. You recognize all the setbacks, and someone gave tips about the humble mechanic, even in collaboration with "Deutsche (?) auto parts" they also suffer from setbacks. You probably know best, new parts are extremely expensive and a whole crashed car has a lot of value in it. Following with great interest.
Great video, this shows the problems I run into when trying to do what you are doing. In theory a great idea, in practice a pain in the butt.put the RS engine in the RSQ3 and get it running and wait for the gods to deliver a car for the VRS build.
Did think a few videos ago put the good engine in the audi and kick it down the road, money in the bank no brainer.
Put the skoda on the back burner, keep up the great content 👌
Use it for RSQ 3 and as you said wait for a rear end S3 great context Dean👍
hes back !! was wondering if you had needed a break after all the hassle.
Had the same issue with an A1 1.4 TFSI, hooked up a jump pack (correctly), fried the ECU
Very common
You can open them up and re ground them easily we’ve had the same problem before
Dean don't write your ecu off I had that same problem and it was the immobilser not seeing the chip in the key and locking ecu. good luck thanks for the great content.
Dean, you know what the obvious thing to do is, you don't need us to tell you. I have huge admiration for your knowledge and the amount of work/risk you take on by yourself. I'm sure there are more than a few sleepless nights.
How frustrating! Definitely makes sense to sort the RSQ3 first and wait for a CAT B to pop up
Get the RSQ3 going then put that up for a raffle. Great content as always keep it up
Use the engine for the RSQ3, would have been good to get an S3 engine into the VRS and going but the problems just seem to be never ending, Video’s are great though and hats off to you for your work and knowledge with the cars. 👍
Yes, get the RSQ3 fixed with the engine and then sold. Then fix the Skoda
put the daza into Audi, keep Skoda as it was from factory. I like the fact you explain in details all technical stuff.
I’ve just scanned down the comments and…I’m looking forward to your next video where you put the lump in the RSQ3, make it a longer one please, I can’t get enough!
I appreciate that fixing the rsq3 is probably easier and makes more sense financially, honestly tho I’d rather see you continue this build and really show us what you can do when you set your mind to it, after all this is TH-cam and it’s all about showing us what you can do right? Best of luck dean
Fix the q3 and get that moving..wait for a breaker 👍👍love the channel
You’re talking yourself into using the engine for the RSQ3. Makes perfect sense. Free up some space and cash for the Octavia or the next project.
Yea I think k the best idea is to fit it into the rsq3 for now and then look for a complete front end
RS4 tickets purchased, was looking to buy one so fingers crossed !
Sort the Q3 Dean and go with the waiting for a breaker,to sort the skoda, you don't need cars sitting around mate
al that work .maybe try some contact cleaner in the plugs to the ecu .it fixed a comunication problem on my ecu .it might work .that engin in that car still is a good thing .keep going as is maybe sombody can help.
It seems the overwhelming majority is with the RSQ3.........I don't like to follow the heard but the most logical solution is with the engine going in the Audi. I think the safer bet would be to get a newer rs engine and hopefully not so many problems but whatever you decide I'll be watching!!!! Keep plugging away mate and you'll get there eventually and i for one will be following your journey!! 💪👊
Go with your best option. You are the Man…😊
A lot of hurdles to turn how much profit? Not sure if it will be worth it. Enjoyed the video and hearing your thoughts.
my dad once blew an ECU by jump starting a car with a battery. it was an old Peugeot 406 2.0 petrol. i think he used a leisure battery but he swore it was his spare car battery. regardless the ECU was fried, it would start and run but had issues like immobiliser was not disabling. anyway my thoughts on it are sometimes i think jump starting a dead battery can cause a power surge that can fry something in the ECU. ive always found it weird that fuses dont protect it... maybe with my dads there was a fuse inside the "sealed" ECU who knows, regardless he moved on to a better 2.0 hdi pug 406 that was awesome and the first diesel car i ever liked... this is like 20 year ago though
Can't wait for next part of this series!
Definitely use the block etc for the RSQ3 and wait for a good engine
Keep up the good work, it was never going to be easy.
No brainer as you say you can fix the RSQ3 with the engine you already have in situ and then wait for damaged RS3 to come along looking forward to both.
Fit up rsq3 ,and wait for a breaker dean great video too
I always use a power surge voltage restriction diode when I jump start it stops any power surges especially when welding the chassis or jump starting got it from machine mart years ago.
Hi Dean, I would fit the engine to the RSQ3. We will all be with you what ever you decide. Good luck. 👍 😊.
Tbh Dean good content and very challenging doing this latest project but get the rsQ3 done and dusted and possibly wait for the bits for the skoda
Continue the work on the RSQ3
Dean, Fit that Engine into the RsQ3 and wait for a breaker.. Great content mate keep up the good work.
In my mind deffo Engine in RSQ3 ! And wait for a breaker rs3 ! Win win in my book , we will still get to see both fixed and running 😎👍🏻
Deffo use the VRS3 engine to repair the RSQ3 👌 love your content, keep up the great work 👊
Fix the RSQ3 first then look at the breakers for a rear ended RS3 👍.
Agree with most other comments here. Use the engine in the Q and get that one sorted then sort the Octavia when something more suitable comes up. As for the oil.. Halfords oil is just as good as others, they all have to be blended to a minimum standard to be able to show the specifics on the bottle so its just as good as a “Branded” oil. (Obviously I can’t commebt on purchases made online but oil from Halfords / GSF etc will be produced to these standards)
Great video as always! Love that black edition, my dream car, colour is right up my street! Definitely not taking the cash when I win 😂
Sounds like good idea to get the rsq3 done then deal with the skoda at later date makes sense to me 👍🏽👍🏽
VAG cars can be weird when it comes to swaps like this. When I have swapped modules and the like between cars it has given me bother when I've tried to do any coding or reading the can bus. The body control module and CAN gateway are linked to the ECU as a paired set. When you put the jump pack on it it might have triggered a relearn on the modules due to low voltage before and now that its picked up that the RS3 ECU isnt the correct one the gateway isnt allowing anything more than basic OBDII options like finding the VIN associated with the ECU. Try plugging the RS3 ECU into the RSQ3 and seeing if the problem carries across, if not then I would assume that its down to the body control module/comfort control module in the Skoda being a pain.
Thanks
Great work! Get the RSQ3 running! BTW: Maybe you should get of those battery-powerd dolly's that they use at dealers to move cars around. ...on the other hand another battery for you to charge ;)
Get that engine in the RSQ3, get another VRS engine in the Skoda. I know it's disappointing, but probably the easiest route.
Entered 🙏🏻 🤞🏼
And fix the RSq3, and squeeze the C6 engine into the Skoda 😆
top work Dean as always love the RS content
Sincerity and humility make your channel a true gem. Keep shining.
Waited for this one Dean...!!!
Makes sense to use the rs3 engine to fix the rsq3 then get back on that project when you get hold of another engine. Although I see copart have stopped the breakerbid4U service i believe but of course other options out there. Smash it 👍
Definitely do the RSQ3, would be great content too. Then face-lift the VRS, I'm enjoying the videos 100%
You need to put a winch in the back of the unit and a mounting point over by the fence so you can winch in and out easily.
Sort the q3 get some cash back and look round breakers yards for a parts or a complete car pal great content keep the good work up pal
Great video just entered too would love that car bad car that is. Nice colour also thanks Dean
Try unplugging the abs and reading the ecu have had this issue before abs causing it
A one man band without bl*$dy car vertical! Keep smashing away, love your content.
That RS4 is my dream car. Absolutely beautiful. One day I will own one! Hopefully I will win it! Fingers crossed! Epic prize.
Your audi in the competition is sick.. tried my luck with a couple of tickets ❤❤
It is awesome! Very rare spec too
Mate get a little quad bike to pull the cars around!! Doesn’t have to be anything good I’ve pulled them on 125s, a 200-350 4T Chinese one would do for what you need and would cost hardly anything second hand! Lovely work again I’ve entered the rs6 and I can only hope I win it😅I’d wide body it if I do🤞
Ye no what mate, you are good 👍
Definitely use the rs3 engine to get the rsq3 us and running. Most viable option
Use the block & crank in the rsq3 mate. Sure you'll work your magic on the Octavia in coming videos
Take the easy route!
Get the audi done first mate skoda can wait great channel
Do what u gotta do and get RSQ3 running ✊ makes sense
Definitely fit the RS3 engine in the RSQ3. You can sort the Skoda when you find another suitable engine. Probably a better result for you too.
Yes fit it in the RSQ3
I have had an ECU go down due to a low battery. So its probably nothing to do with the jump pack . It appears that this can happen on a good few models and all because the batt was low when you tried to crank it .
100% buddy... RSQ3. The Skoda can wait.
You could have spiked the ecu using the jump pack only way you will know is to get it tested. Also You will need to fit lambda sensors mate they are required to adjust fueling
100% fit it in the rsq3, your just chasing issues taking the fun out of the conversion
Ssems like The ecu has shut down as it thinks it being tampered with. Don't give up on it. Try getting the ecu unlocked.
Dean, you best check but I heard Copart have changed their sales policies and only sell cat B to registered breakers yards and no longer allow individuals to strip at the sites.
How did you connect the battery pack? If you didn’t connect the negative to the earth point on the bulkhead and straight to the battery - this is why you’ve fried your ecu.
Great car unfortunately can't enter the competition south africa is watching always🎉🎉🎉🎉
If your grounds aren’t complete or correct the jump pack can feed back through the ground on the ecu it’s like welding it will find the path of least resistance…
Yes! Maybe investigate the wiring before proceeding on the Octavia
Impressive efforts on pushing those cars in and out of the workshop Dean 😂 have you considered one of those battery powered movers like they use for caravans? I am sure one could be modified to help you get them in and out 😀 2:21
Fit to rsq3 make sense
What a bloody job Dean
Morning mate
Firstttt..greetings from Czech Republic✌️
I love my Scorpion exhaust ❤
Okay, so as you will know by now, all vag cars , when they get a low battery have problems communicating with the canbus system , which intern hinders the communication with all the sensors and that’s why you get loads of codes , now what I would try because you’ve got nothing to lose by doing so it’s taking the battery off the car and giving it a bloody good charge , and while the battery is off , reinstall the RS3 ECU , and do a hard reset ,by pressing the plus and negative wires of the car together to drain all the power from all systems including the ECU , and once the batteries fully charged, try again , this will definitely rule out a low voltage situation for lack of communication , if this doesn’t resolve anything, you’re probably gonna find that the Cambus communication port tothe ECU at fault , and you will have to find a local ECU specialist to check this out and repair it for you, keep up the good work. I hope you get this resolved.
If it’s like a bmw the jump might have put the FRM module in a fit , check the other features windows lights ect
Sometimes once you use a jump back on car's it spikes the ecu because off the extra power used by the jump pack. We had the same problem with a c class the garage told us to turn on the side lights when using jump packs why i don't know.
Keep going with this one 😊
yes
