    Airplane engines, that's a cool subject. I know this is old but I like re watching. Anyways I'm a born and raised truck driver, just got out of it a year ago. 1953 Peterbilt the large car west coast logging trucks. You wouldnt find a long nose pet on the east coast. But they came with the option of a
    Hall Scott aviation engine. Big big big, if I remember correctly they had something like 1100 cubic inch 500 and something hp in line 6 gas job. Huge power for the time almost unbelievable honestly.

      @caterpillar1693 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok Harv I had told alittle bit of miss information on the hall Scott. So I have to correct it, still incredibly advanced for the time period . I think you'll agree

      1955 Hall-Scott model 935 295 HP 6 cyl. 1969 Hercules/Hall-Scott model 6156 300 HP. 6 cyl. Torque remained the same in both engines at 800 lb. ft. The valves were the same size, as were the pistons, the crank, cam everything appears to be the same size, the only difference were the Carbs. I'm not by any means an engine expert, but I don't think you can pick up 5 HP with just carb additions. Can you ? Hercules did offer a Schwitzer-Cummins Turbo-Charger on the 1091 ci. model 6156, we know that would have increased HP. Hall-Scott played with fitting Turbo-Chargers to their engines in the mid 50's.

    Filling that case up under the transfers is making way tighter case volume ,you ever think about trying to make crank stuffers i think they call them ,where the crank looks like a full circle ,tighter the the case volume is the more air goes up the transfers right wich means more power

    A chat with a friend on 088 cranks turned up some interesting things. A customer of his a australian hard wood cutter that makes fence posts, all his saws were broken down so he was trying to make 3 saws out of six as parts are not available with this virus. They come with 2 different condrods the normal ones had failed but the ones with the scolloped oil dams were all okay he thinks these are the ones made in Brazil. Then he said have a look at this he put the crank in a drill and turned it around slowly and there was a quite a large wobble in the crank. A chat to the Germans told him that 7 thou was acceptable. Because he was making good cranks out of bad ones they had to be pressed out, with time and effort and adjusting the counter weights he managed to get them with a lot less wobble. The end product was a smoother running saw and a extra 500 rpm. That was a week ago and the saws have not returned. He hope they will last till new parts arrive when ever that will be.

    Got to ask Ironhorse, u ever work a Mac Super 33? My first saw my dad ran, once u got it started and warmed up, it only stopped for fuel and oil . Beast saw from 1957 58 i believe had a emblem with ducks on it.

    By adding the JB to get better flow transition to the lowers is good but are you concerned about losing case volume?

    Hey Iron horse. Do enjoy the videos, hopefully I'll be able to remember them when I quit cutting and have time to work on them myself. Quick question. What ever happened to the dolomar with the 660 top end? And have you ever thought about a rotary reed rather than spring type. I've been told by a friend who builds racing engines for dirt bikes that he'd never go back after using the rotary type. Thanks for your time.

    Harvey this is awesome. I have watched Buckin and You for three years or so. I run a jonsereds 630 20 inch full house. Can or would your son and you build it? It runs good but I think you could make it great.

  • @cedarrocksawshop3876

    I have rebuilt a couple X-Torques. You can make them have decent power but nothing like the old style. They are bad for the PTO crank bearing to go out like the 575xp. Now the 575 was a better emissions designed saw. Still had faults then they came out with the 576 they corrected that. Still the old style 371/372 was by far a superior saw over any of the others mentioned. The x-torques I’ve built turned out good but with an old style cylinder and the same amount of work you just get a lot better product. I like running an x-torque carburetor on the old style cylinder. Those carbs seem to do real well. I enjoying watching you test stuff. I’m like you in that aspect, but you’re doing some interesting stuff. Keep it coming.

    How about instead of using lead and making saw heavier what about the stuff you pour in engine blocks in the water jacket should be lighter and stronger? Just food for thought
