Historically this division between Western and Eastern sensibilities has been detrimental to the success of video game systems like the Sega Saturn and the PSVita which had appeal in Japan, but lacked a strong presence overseas.
I feel like Street Pass on the 3DS is a perfect example of this. In Japan, it makes a lot of sense because a lot of people in the cities take public transportation and things are a lot more dense, where as in United States everything is so spread out, so you really have to go out of your way to a public space like a mall or a convention to even have the possibility to Street Pass with someone.
Has to be said, Splatoon 2 is an actual sequel, not a port of Splatoon 1. New weapons, new maps, new customization options, new singleplayer story, new hub world, new characters.. yeaaa
I've been saying for a while that Nintendo was at their most creative and interesting during the GameCube era with some of the coolest Nintendo games ever. Now I can safely say Nintendo has reclaimed that creative and awesome fire with the Switch.

I was mostly just making a joke about how the structure of the game being a single player MMO. I did pay attention to the side quests when I played it, although the objectives are very forgettable and very standard MMO type quests (i.e. go over here and kill 3 guys, walk to this other person and give them an item, ect.) The affinity chart is good for tracking progress of quests, remembering who certain characters are, and what decisions you made, but it is honestly overcomplicated and after a certain point, I stopped looking it. At the end of the day, I can only care so much about like some NPC sitting next to a shop who sells bread or something. Now, I do think the Hero quests in XB3 were pretty substantial because they would eventually join the party, so I did enjoy those quests a lot and the affinity building with the colonies was a nice way to contextualize the more mundane activities. Still, with all that said, a lot of the sidequests are just MMO busy work to unlock rewards. Sometimes there are some cool stories involved, but when you're juggling 10 fetch quests at the same time and mindlessly going to 30 explanation points on the world map, it's hard to be invested.
@@HyperChargeI felt the same. It’s a very ambitious system, but Joonjab and Kuku from Colony 8 will never be memorable people to me at the end of the day. Especially when you see the disparity in designs from default NPC #3 and your average Hero. It’s how I feel about the Day-Night system, too. Just overly complicated for no one’s benefit really. Good thing in 3, it’s only required for maybe two side quests total.

erm actually the switch is more of an 8th gen console, the Wii U was cut short so Nintendie double dipped in the 8th gen. Adam Koralik has a great video explaining it but basically its power is closer to 7th or 8th gen rather than 9th and the purpose of the system was to get out of the Wii U and continue to compete with the 8th gen consoles. It's not even that uncommon to have 2 consoles in a generation
Yeah, I know the whole "console generation" thing is all up for debate and even on Wikipedia it's considered to be an 8 gen console, but I'm vastly simplifying it because it's a successor to the Wii U and that was gen 8 and it's the "next generation" of the hardware. Regardless of the power though, it's still competing with PS5 and the Xbox Series X right now, so is the Switch a super late Gen 8 console or a super early Gen 9 console? It could go either way.

Both play the same games, but then again, you have stuff like Doom Eternal on Switch. Also the Pro consoles Sony releases make the whole thing muddy. It's more simple to consider gens as sucessors.
Looking back now, there's really nothing else to say about the Switch except it made Nintendo filthy rich and it produced high quality games in all departments that everyone can enjoy in one form or another. It's really what any video game system should strive to be and with the few shortcomings it has, it will really be exciting to see how Nintendo will present the new and improved console that's forthcoming. I remember getting my Switch as a Christmas gift during the 2018 holidays when Smash dropped, and I played so much Fortnite and watched so much TH-cam. I swapped it out for an OLED just last summer, and KORG Gadget and Colors Live have turned this thing into a creative studio!
The Switch is definitely an interesting console looking back, part of me feels like Nintendo never quite picked up the momentum they had in 2017, 2018 especially felt like a bit of a letdown after an insane launch year. There were amazing first party games released afterwards, but i cant really point to one other of those entire years to be a "good year" in general. Maybe it's just the bias of the console being new in 2017 and coming off the heels of the Wii U era. Anyway, when it comes to the Switch having good third party support, I feel it's worth mentioning *every* platform has incredible third party support nowadays due to exclusives thankfully becoming less of a thing, but the Switch had an edge over the competition due to its portability. Sure, you could get that indie game or less demanding console game for your PS4/5, but you can take it anywhere on Switch! Of course in the present time the portability aspect has worn off a bit esepcially with the introduction of stuff like the Steam Deck, but it still. Anyway, looking ahead, I think it's important the Switch Successor does work to reduce the many, many hardware faults of the Switch, whilst also keeping up that momentum of quality first party games. Now Nintendo developers are assumedly going to have far more power at their disposal, I hope we see some utterly insane shit.

When I criticize games for being "anime", I'm not necessarily just talking about the art style, but more so the implementation of anime tropes and cliches with the characters and overall story. I suppose your tolerance for that kind of stuff will vary from person to person, but in my opinion, I think Fire Emblem Three Houses didn't lean too much into the typical anime formula as much as Fire Emblem Engage or even Fire Emblem Fates.

Honeslty if I have to thank the Switch for anything it would be the fact it finally got out of my Nintendo fanboy shell and actually tried out games outside Nintendo. The catalyst for this (and one I hold dearly to me as one of my favourite indie games) is KAMIKO, I never played top-down games a lot so for me it was something extremely exciting it also helped the game itself was pretty good and had a banger OST. This would eventually lead me on to try other indie and third party games and I think I’m a much more appreciative of games. The only thing I can say that I hate about the switch is that indie/3rd party games on switch end up being the worst way to play them because the Switch is extremely underpowered. Even then I just bought a gaming PC to play all the big third party games at max framerates and high resolutions so it doesn’t sting as much anymore. Still, love this console and I’m grateful for the many things it has brought me so uh thanks for the video! 🎉
Maybe that's true, but there's too many good games out there and the only reason I'm a fan of Nintendo is because they make good games. I don't want to pigeon hole myself into being the "Nintendo Guy", even though people are going to put me into that box regardless.

Welp! The Nintendo Switch 2 got announced and it seems they FINNALLY addressed the Joycon Drift situation by covering the analogs with plastic instead of a flimsy piece of rubber. There's certain aspects of the Switch that haven't been stellar, the Joycons being one of the worst offenders, but for the looks of it the sequel is shaping up to be quite good in comparison.

for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remakes you were kinda downplaying why everyone didn't like them, they were still worse then Platinum which came out like 15 years ago despite being new remakes they were just less then a DS game, compared to other Pokemon remakes like HeartGold/SoulSilver which pretty much replace the originals

@@TwilightYonder720 Yeah, that's the only part of the video I personally think he fucked it up. Even for those who never played a Pokemon game, it's easy to see some TH-camrs like Gireum Red and DistantKingdom to have a better understanding why X Pokemon game on the Switch was underwhelming and none of them even involves having unreleastic expectation like wanting every region to be available or making an "dark" theme, specially when Colosseum and Gale of Darkness pulled it out incredibly well. The massive success of the Pkmn games on the Switch, despite their actual quality not reflecting the sales says a lot about how powerful of a brand it is, so I wouldn't be surprized if Gen 10 ends up bricking consoles and selling 20 millions of copies in just a single day.
I feel as if the Switch was pretty disappointing for me at launch but eventually became good once more games came out. Like, the UI didn't allow for any customization, nor had any sort of personality to it. No ambiance, no music. The eShop is slow and was so limited at launch and now there is no quality control on their eShop. There was no internet browser, TH-cam, Netflix, which were all on the Wii U early on. We also now have to pay for the online when there are these missing features, and it took a few years before paying for the membership to become worth it. Because of this, the poor quality of the Joy-con control sticks and the Switch Dock that has scratches people's Switches makes the console come off as rushed and poor quality. There were no new innovations like Miiverse or Streetpass which is disappointing for a successor. With Miiverse, there were some hollow replacements in Splatoon 2 and Mario Maker 2, giving the impression that the experience in these Wii U ports/sequels has been compromised. Speaking of which, many of the games were mostly just Wii U/3DS sequels and ports. When I buy a new Nintendo console, I would I like to play new games, not what was already available 6 years ago. My biggest problem with this is that they are just doing this to pad out the schedule of new games when there should be a greater amount of new games now that Nintendo is only focusing on one console. In 2017, we did get Zelda, but that was also a Wii U game. Though we did get games like Arms and 1-2-Switch, neither had very lasting appeal. Splatoon 2 came out and was okay, but fairly unoriginal for sequel to one of the most original Wii U games. So, that is to say that it took until October for Mario Odyssey to come out as the first interesting original title exclusive to Switch. A lot of people love Mario Kart 8, and I do too, but because we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch, the Switch didn't have an original Nintendo racing game. It just goes to show how Nintendo was comfortable with just letting the Switch be a "replacement" Wii U. Then in 2018, Nintendo's original line up was about as the 2013 lineup for Wii U. Games like Mario Tennis Aces, Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi's Crafter World, and Super Mario Party were all painfully mediocre games that were mostly downgrades from their predecessors. It was not until Smash Bros that came out later that year that there was finally an original game worth investing in, which was way too long. It wasn't until games like Pikmin 4, Mario Party Jamboree, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, and more came around and changed my perception of the console. The design of the Switch can be seen in two different ways. The first way is a handheld that can be played on the TV, which isn't interesting or innovative at all because this was done all the way back in the 90s with the Super GameBoy. The second way is a home console that can be taken on the go, which sounds interesting, but the novelty can ware off and not everyone is interested in handheld play. So, people who are playing exclusively on their TVs are compromising their experience because of the hardware limitations of being a handheld as well. Either way, I think of it as a flawed design that cannot please those who prefer playing on the TV. Keep in mind, this was just my experience and my opinion. I know that I am not in the majority here. In the end, I did end up liking the Switch, but it took until 2024 since 2017 before. I feel like because of those years, my perception of the Switch will always be tainted even though I do like it. This is a subjective experience, so that is also important to note. For instance, I am not into games like Xenoblade or Fire Emblem too much.
I think there's definitely a charm to the Wii and Wii U aesthetics (Home screen music, Wii Shop Channel, Mii Channel, Mii verse, Street Pass, ect) and it's very nostalgic for sure, but I'm also not mourning the lack of Nintendo-esque features for the console menu. For me personally, I grew up with the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube and none of those consoles featured any of that kind of stuff, so I'm perfectly fine with having a console that's main purpose is to play videogames. The lack of a web browser is probably the worst missing feature overall, although there is a TH-cam App in the E-Shop, so you can watch TH-cam on it. I can totally understand how if your only playing Nintendo games, the giant list of Wii U ports might be disappointing, but with all said and done in 2025, there's way more original Nintendo games on the Switch that totally eclipses the Nintendo games on the Wii U in my opinion. There's also a much larger library of games to play in general too, so I feel like the benefits of having tons of games on the system completely outweighs any of the minor perceived flaws with not having a Mii-Verse or Street Pass equivalent. The novelty of that stuff wore out very quick for me personally and after the first couple of months of the Wii U and 3DS launch, I didn't even interact with that stuff anymore. The lack of E-Shop music is also a bit lame, but these are such minor gripes that I didn't even feel like including them in the video. They are such minor aspects of the consoles in the grand scheme of things. Overall, if I had to pin it on anything, it feels more or less like the Nintendo Switch was a very quick turn around and they definitely didn't prioritize giving the Nintendo Switch the same kind of charm as the Wii and Wii U. I feel like the biggest culprit that sort of proves that for me is that there is still software options to put other themes on the home menu, but all we ever got was white and black. I also feel like Nintendo was taking a more direct streamlined approached and I think there may have been a deliberate effort to keep things simple, which could also be why they didn't want to add these kinds of features. I guess we'll see if that's the case or not whenever the Switch 2 is shown off. I also do think the Nintendo Switch was successful because they weren't trying to be innovative. Ultimately, I think a lot of players just want straight forward hardware to play there games,, and the Nintendo Switch has the best hardware to play games wherever you want. Obviously, it's underpowered because of that, but I feel like most people aren't expecting Nintendo consoles to be powerhouses like the PS5 or Xbox anyways, so I feel like that stigma from Nintendo doesn't necessarily matter as much anymore, especially with the massive diminishing returns of AAA games of recent years. At the end of the day, if you want cutting edge technology at this point in time, you don't buy a Nintendo console, and I feel like everyone collectively understands that.
I like the video I like Nintendo switch console but there a few things that I want mention that you probably know or don’t know. I feel like Nintendo probably was playing on returning F-Zero during the Wii U but due to its commercial failure. They decided to do F-Zero ports, F-Zero 99 and a similar game to F-Zero Fast RMX 2017 for a safe approach. I think Nintendo will probably release a F-Zero game either after 2 years of the new console or launch title since Mario Kart is a bigger IP than F-Zero they might release Mario Kart first. Or crazy idea combine F-Zero and Mario Kart in one game for a launch title.
I've been seeing some rumors that Mario Kart 9 will be a launch title, which makes sense considering how old MK8 is. I would be really excited for a new F-Zero game for sure, it does seem like they are testing the waters to see if people still care.

You know, years back, I expected you to be much more critical of the Switch due to its flaws. You were, but you seem to be a lot more accepting of the Switch compared to the Wii. I may not agree with some of your opinions, but that’s fine.
From my perspective, it all comes back to the videogames on the system. The Switch has a lot more obvious hardware flaws compared to the Wii, but I'll take a bit of boring flawed hardware that has a lot of great games on it over an innovative console like the Wii with not as many good games on it. I think Super Mario Galaxy was better than Super Mario Odyssey, but every other Nintendo franchise on the Switch completely demolishes it's Wii counterpart. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were way better than Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Super Mario Wonder was better than New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Dread was way better than Other M, maybe Metroid Prime 4 might not be as good as Prime 3, but we'll wait to see, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of my favorite Kirby games of all time, and the list keeps going and going. Also, the third party support on the Switch CANNOT be understated. The fact I could play Persona 5 Royal on Switch as a flawless port is insane, there are so many great games on the system, and I feel like I never experienced that same kind of support with the Wii! If you rolled up to a local target or bestbuy during the Wii era, you'd just see a line a bunch of decent Nintendo games and then a massive pile of third party Carnival Games-esque bullshit. That's something I never experienced with the Switch!
but overall I've been very satisfied with the Switch era most of the new games that came out ended up being either my fav in their series or like top 5 range my only big disappointments are like just how Pokemon has become now and like Origami King which as a PM fan just felt massively ignorant to what made PM special... and paid online sucks even if it's cheap it should just be free
I think in an alternate reality where the Switch didn't exist and Nintendo continued making handheld and home consoles, I don't think we would've even gotten any open world Pokemon games at all, so I'm kind of glad games like Pokemon Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet exist, despite them being absolutely jank. In my opinion, GameFreak would've gladly continued making 3-4 Pokemon Sun and Moon esque Pokemon games in 480p or whatever if they had the option. but I think the Nintendo Switch has unfortunately forced GameFreak outside of their comfort zone. While they are kind of eating crap right now, I do think the Pokemon series will be better as a result. I do agree with the online stuff too, like if Nintendo wants to charge for Virtual Console stuff, then go ahead, but keep the online multiplayer free!

@@TwilightYonder720 To be honest, paid online was already stupid but Nintendo came and proved everyone it could be even worse with their own online "service". Emphasis on the parenthesis because you aren't paying for a service, you are paying for a PERMISSION so you can play online. And I say this because it doesn't have dedicated servers and most of the benefits (which some of them are abstent in countries like Mexico btw) just aren't worth. The fact cloud save is locked behind a paywall is absolutely stupid as not only free on Xbox Series and PS (if you use a SD card on the latter), but also because of it's hybrid nature, you could easily lose it or even get it stolen with no chance to ever recover everything if you didn't pay for the "service".
The Switch has so many games but also so many owrformance issues. I have pretty much stopped buying any games for the system beside first party ones. Here's hoping Switch 2 actually improves them.
For the record, while the Nintendo Switch was a massive victory for Nintendo, I think that what it represents is a massive detriment to the way that Videogames as a whole used to be. See, the Console Wars pretty much died with the 8th generations of consoles, with both Nintendo and Microsoft losing miserably to Sony. For their 9th gen, Nintendo had to pretty much flee to the area of gaming they kept a dominance of, portables, while Microsoft decided to change their model altogether through Gamepass. What this means is that the Big 3 are pretty much no longer competing with each other, because Sony pretty much kicked their competitors so hard that they fell off from the traditional Home Console market, as a result, all 3 of them have grown really complaisant up to a certain point. Want proof of this? Well where's E3? ... That used to be the arena for them to compete in, where is it? It no longer exists, because these f-kers don't want to compete anymore.
I get what you're saying with Sony completely dominating the traditional console market, but Nintendo is absolutely putting up numbers and is competing in the same field, whether or not you consider the Switch a handheld or home console. If you want an extremely powerful home console, then Sony is the way to go, but you also have to consider that the PS5 Pro is not selling well. There's so much diminishing returns on the costs, AAA development is becoming way too unprofitable, and output of more powerful hardware isn't necessarily worth it as much anymore. At the end of the day, The Nintendo Switch is a good counterbalance to Sony's approach and as long as Nintendo continues to put out good games on the system at a relatively affordable price and has tons of third party support, Nintendo could potentially eat away at Sony's market dominance in the traditional console market as well. To put this in perspective, the lifetime sales of the Switch have now completely exceeded the lifetime sales of the PS2, which was Sony's top selling console of all time. If you think Sony aren't paying attention to that, you'd be crazy. At the end of the day, the Sony vs. Microsoft direct competion has always shifted between generations and just because Microsoft is seemingly out of the picture doesn't necessarily mean that Sony now has a defacto monopoly of the market. Nintendo is a real powerhouse in the market right now and if the Switch 2 is powerful enough to genuinely compete with Sony at a more affordable price, it could effect them as well. As far as E3 is concerned, it's just a defunct media convention. With the advent of online presentations like Nintendo Directs and Sony's State of Plays, old school media circuits like E3 no longer need to exist. Instead of informing the media on video game news and having the media inform the consumers, now Nintendo and Sony can put out an online presentation directly to consumers and the media is going to cover the presentations anyways. They are still competing with each other, it's just not happening in person.
@@HyperCharge - Yeah, I made that comment right after clicking on the video, because it was something I wanted to get off my chest. And part of the problem I had was something that was reflected in the video, where we let the Switch get away with very poor performance because it was the only one of its kind, so they didn't even need* to make a Switch Pro, because we* pretty much just had to put up with it. However, I will say that I forgot how good the Switch really was, and that I started to remember that as I was watching the video, I guess all that pessimism has mostly been building up these past couple of years, that have been dryer because of them prioritizing the Switch 2 while not telling us anything about it. I hope the Switch 2 turns out to be a banger because we really need one, I still think that the lack of competition I mentioned is true, and it has led to a lot of games not getting optimized in all aspects: Budget - Graphics - Gameplay Mechanics and more, it's like a radiation rotting a good chunk of the landscape! The irony is that those are all problems happening outside of Nintendo, whose market is greener than ever, and if Sony is smart, they'll have to come in to Nintendo's turf and actually compete again, because their market has been greatly degraded by that metaphorical radiation. As for the fidelity race, I think that Gabe Newell should keep that one to himself.
Ultimate is not a wii u port there are so many new features that were not present for wii u, they used the same ASSETS as the 4th game but otherwise it was a completely new game. Also sorry but 4 is easily the weakest game in the series, gameplay wise it's great but otherwise there's not alot of reason to go back to it like I can say for literally every other game in the series.

Historically this division between Western and Eastern sensibilities has been detrimental to the success of video game systems like the Sega Saturn and the PSVita which had appeal in Japan, but lacked a strong presence overseas.
I feel like Street Pass on the 3DS is a perfect example of this. In Japan, it makes a lot of sense because a lot of people in the cities take public transportation and things are a lot more dense, where as in United States everything is so spread out, so you really have to go out of your way to a public space like a mall or a convention to even have the possibility to Street Pass with someone.

Bruh it saddens me so much you skipped all the Xenoblade sidequests when developers put so much heart into them that they mapped out an entire relationship mindmap for every single minor characters you interact with
I was mostly just making a joke about how the structure of the game being a single player MMO. I did pay attention to the side quests when I played it, although the objectives are very forgettable and very standard MMO type quests (i.e. go over here and kill 3 guys, walk to this other person and give them an item, ect.)
The affinity chart is good for tracking progress of quests, remembering who certain characters are, and what decisions you made, but it is honestly overcomplicated and after a certain point, I stopped looking it. At the end of the day, I can only care so much about like some NPC sitting next to a shop who sells bread or something. Now, I do think the Hero quests in XB3 were pretty substantial because they would eventually join the party, so I did enjoy those quests a lot and the affinity building with the colonies was a nice way to contextualize the more mundane activities. Still, with all that said, a lot of the sidequests are just MMO busy work to unlock rewards. Sometimes there are some cool stories involved, but when you're juggling 10 fetch quests at the same time and mindlessly going to 30 explanation points on the world map, it's hard to be invested.
@@HyperChargeI felt the same. It’s a very ambitious system, but Joonjab and Kuku from Colony 8 will never be memorable people to me at the end of the day. Especially when you see the disparity in designs from default NPC #3 and your average Hero.
It’s how I feel about the Day-Night system, too. Just overly complicated for no one’s benefit really. Good thing in 3, it’s only required for maybe two side quests total.

I was first introduced to your channel in 2018 with your retrospectives on the N64, GCN, Wii, and Wii U and I thought about a Switch video. 7 years laters it came finally!
erm actually the switch is more of an 8th gen console, the Wii U was cut short so Nintendie double dipped in the 8th gen. Adam Koralik has a great video explaining it but basically its power is closer to 7th or 8th gen rather than 9th and the purpose of the system was to get out of the Wii U and continue to compete with the 8th gen consoles. It's not even that uncommon to have 2 consoles in a generation
Yeah, I know the whole "console generation" thing is all up for debate and even on Wikipedia it's considered to be an 8 gen console, but I'm vastly simplifying it because it's a successor to the Wii U and that was gen 8 and it's the "next generation" of the hardware.
Regardless of the power though, it's still competing with PS5 and the Xbox Series X right now, so is the Switch a super late Gen 8 console or a super early Gen 9 console? It could go either way.

Both play the same games, but then again, you have stuff like Doom Eternal on Switch. Also the Pro consoles Sony releases make the whole thing muddy. It's more simple to consider gens as sucessors.

Looking back now, there's really nothing else to say about the Switch except it made Nintendo filthy rich and it produced high quality games in all departments that everyone can enjoy in one form or another. It's really what any video game system should strive to be and with the few shortcomings it has, it will really be exciting to see how Nintendo will present the new and improved console that's forthcoming. The Switch is definitely an interesting console looking back, part of me feels like Nintendo never quite picked up the momentum they had in 2017, 2018 especially felt like a bit of a letdown after an insane launch year. There were amazing first party games released afterwards, but i cant really point to one other of those entire years to be a "good year" in general. Maybe it's just the bias of the console being new in 2017 and coming off the heels of the Wii U era.
Anyway, when it comes to the Switch having good third party support, I feel it's worth mentioning *every* platform has incredible third party support nowadays due to exclusives thankfully becoming less of a thing, but the Switch had an edge over the competition due to its portability. Sure, you could get that indie game or less demanding console game for your PS4/5, but you can take it anywhere on Switch! Of course in the present time the portability aspect has worn off a bit esepcially with the introduction of stuff like the Steam Deck, but it still.
Anyway, looking ahead, I think it's important the Switch Successor does work to reduce the many, many hardware faults of the Switch, whilst also keeping up that momentum of quality first party games. Now Nintendo developers are assumedly going to have far more power at their disposal, I hope we see some utterly insane shit.

When I criticize games for being "anime", I'm not necessarily just talking about the art style, but more so the implementation of anime tropes and cliches with the characters and overall story. I suppose your tolerance for that kind of stuff will vary from person to person, but in my opinion, I think Fire Emblem Three Houses didn't lean too much into the typical anime formula as much as Fire Emblem Engage or even Fire Emblem Fates.

I heavily disagree with you on Xenoblade 2. Yeah, it's got anime bullshit, but it's a genuinely great game.
Honeslty if I have to thank the Switch for anything it would be the fact it finally got out of my Nintendo fanboy shell and actually tried out games outside Nintendo.
The catalyst for this (and one I hold dearly to me as one of my favourite indie games) is KAMIKO, I never played top-down games a lot so for me it was something extremely exciting it also helped the game itself was pretty good and had a banger OST.
This would eventually lead me on to try other indie and third party games and I think I’m a much more appreciative of games.
The only thing I can say that I hate about the switch is that indie/3rd party games on switch end up being the worst way to play them because the Switch is extremely underpowered.
Even then I just bought a gaming PC to play all the big third party games at max framerates and high resolutions so it doesn’t sting as much anymore.
Still, love this console and I’m grateful for the many things it has brought me so uh thanks for the video! 🎉

Welp! The Nintendo Switch 2 got announced and it seems they FINNALLY addressed the Joycon Drift situation by covering the analogs with plastic instead of a flimsy piece of rubber.
There's certain aspects of the Switch that haven't been stellar, the Joycons being one of the worst offenders, but for the looks of it the sequel is shaping up to be quite good in comparison.
Also, there's a chance that the new Joycons may be able to be used as a mouse, but we'll see.

for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remakes you were kinda downplaying why everyone didn't like them, they were still worse then Platinum which came out like 15 years ago despite being new remakes they were just less then a DS game, compared to other Pokemon remakes like HeartGold/SoulSilver which pretty much replace the originals

Even your old video about the National Dex argument didn't get what the big problem was, you thought the problem was the same from Gen2 to 3 when that was hardware issues from GB to GBA while the National Dex issue was about cutting corners and Pokemon charging people for several different apps to transfer *some* Pokemon while never knowing when a game that has said Pokemon in a game or not if you sent one by accident
As for the future of Pokemon the new Legends game has had no news for a year which is funny to see Pokemon fans actually praise over.. but we'll see if they deliver with Gen 10, like Gen9 selling so much should tell that they can sell a unfinished beta but at the same time they maybe can't get away with it again...

Even for those who never played a Pokemon game, it's easy to see some TH-camrs like Gireum Red and DistantKingdom to have a better understanding why X Pokemon game on the Switch was underwhelming and none of them even involves having unreleastic expectation like wanting every region to be available or making an "dark" theme, specially when Colosseum and Gale of Darkness pulled it out incredibly well.
The massive success of the Pkmn games on the Switch, despite their actual quality not reflecting the sales says a lot about how powerful of a brand it is, so I wouldn't be surprized if Gen 10 ends up bricking consoles and selling 20 millions of copies in just a single day.

I feel as if the Switch was pretty disappointing for me at launch but eventually became good once more games came out. Like, the UI didn't allow for any customization, nor had any sort of personality to it. No ambiance, no music. The eShop is slow and was so limited at launch and now there is no quality control on their eShop. There was no internet browser, TH-cam, Netflix, which were all on the Wii U early on. We also now have to pay for the online when there are these missing features, and it took a few years before paying for the membership to become worth it. Because of this, the poor quality of the Joy-con control sticks and the Switch Dock that has scratches people's Switches makes the console come off as rushed and poor quality. There were no new innovations like Miiverse or Streetpass which is disappointing for a successor. With Miiverse, there were some hollow replacements in Splatoon 2 and Mario Maker 2, giving the impression that the experience in these Wii U ports/sequels has been compromised. Speaking of which, many of the games were mostly just Wii U/3DS sequels and ports. When I buy a new Nintendo console, I would I like to play new games, not what was already available 6 years ago. My biggest problem with this is that they are just doing this to pad out the schedule of new games when there should be a greater amount of new games now that Nintendo is only focusing on one console. In 2017, we did get Zelda, but that was also a Wii U game. Though we did get games like Arms and 1-2-Switch, neither had very lasting appeal. Splatoon 2 came out and was okay, but fairly unoriginal for sequel to one of the most original Wii U games. So, that is to say that it took until October for Mario Odyssey to come out as the first interesting original title exclusive to Switch. A lot of people love Mario Kart 8, and I do too, but because we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch, the Switch didn't have an original Nintendo racing game. It just goes to show how Nintendo was comfortable with just letting the Switch be a "replacement" Wii U. Then in 2018, Nintendo's original line up was about as the 2013 lineup for Wii U. Games like Mario Tennis Aces, Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi's Crafter World, and Super Mario Party were all painfully mediocre games that were mostly downgrades from their predecessors. It was not until Smash Bros that came out later that year that there was finally an original game worth investing in, which was way too long. It wasn't until games like Pikmin 4, Mario Party Jamboree, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, and more came around and changed my perception of the console.
The design of the Switch can be seen in two different ways. The first way is a handheld that can be played on the TV, which isn't interesting or innovative at all because this was done all the way back in the 90s with the Super GameBoy. The second way is a home console that can be taken on the go, which sounds interesting, but the novelty can ware off and not everyone is interested in handheld play. So, people who are playing exclusively on their TVs are compromising their experience because of the hardware limitations of being a handheld as well. Either way, I think of it as a flawed design that cannot please those who prefer playing on the TV.
Keep in mind, this was just my experience and my opinion. I know that I am not in the majority here. In the end, I did end up liking the Switch, but it took until 2024 since 2017 before. I feel like because of those years, my perception of the Switch will always be tainted even though I do like it. This is a subjective experience, so that is also important to note. For instance, I am not into games like Xenoblade or Fire Emblem too much.
I think there's definitely a charm to the Wii and Wii U aesthetics (Home screen music, Wii Shop Channel, Mii Channel, Mii verse, Street Pass, ect) and it's very nostalgic for sure, but I'm also not mourning the lack of Nintendo-esque features for the console menu. For me personally, I grew up with the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube and none of those consoles featured any of that kind of stuff, so I'm perfectly fine with having a console that's main purpose is to play videogames. The lack of a web browser is probably the worst missing feature overall, although there is a TH-cam App in the E-Shop, so you can watch TH-cam on it. I can totally understand how if your only playing Nintendo games, the giant list of Wii U ports might be disappointing, but with all said and done in 2025, there's way more original Nintendo games on the Switch that totally eclipses the Nintendo games on the Wii U in my opinion. There's also a much larger library of games to play in general too, so I feel like the benefits of having tons of games on the system completely outweighs any of the minor perceived flaws with not having a Mii-Verse or Street Pass equivalent. The novelty of that stuff wore out very quick for me personally and after the first couple of months of the Wii U and 3DS launch, I didn't even interact with that stuff anymore. The lack of E-Shop music is also a bit lame, but these are such minor gripes that I didn't even feel like including them in the video. They are such minor aspects of the consoles in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, if I had to pin it on anything, it feels more or less like the Nintendo Switch was a very quick turn around and they definitely didn't prioritize giving the Nintendo Switch the same kind of charm as the Wii and Wii U. I feel like the biggest culprit that sort of proves that for me is that there is still software options to put other themes on the home menu, but all we ever got was white and black. I also feel like Nintendo was taking a more direct streamlined approached and I think there may have been a deliberate effort to keep things simple, which could also be why they didn't want to add these kinds of features. I guess we'll see if that's the case or not whenever the Switch 2 is shown off.
I also do think the Nintendo Switch was successful because they weren't trying to be innovative. Ultimately, I think a lot of players just want straight forward hardware to play there games,, and the Nintendo Switch has the best hardware to play games wherever you want. Obviously, it's underpowered because of that, but I feel like most people aren't expecting Nintendo consoles to be powerhouses like the PS5 or Xbox anyways, so I feel like that stigma from Nintendo doesn't necessarily matter as much anymore, especially with the massive diminishing returns of AAA games of recent years. At the end of the day, if you want cutting edge technology at this point in time, you don't buy a Nintendo console, and I feel like everyone collectively understands that.
I like the video I like Nintendo switch console but there a few things that I want mention that you probably know or don’t know. I feel like Nintendo probably was playing on returning F-Zero during the Wii U but due to its commercial failure. They decided to do F-Zero ports, F-Zero 99 and a similar game to F-Zero Fast RMX 2017 for a safe approach. I think Nintendo will probably release a F-Zero game either after 2 years of the new console or launch title since Mario Kart is a bigger IP than F-Zero they might release Mario Kart first.
Or crazy idea combine F-Zero and Mario Kart in one game for a launch title.
I've been seeing some rumors that Mario Kart 9 will be a launch title, which makes sense considering how old MK8 is. I would be really excited for a new F-Zero game for sure, it does seem like they are testing the waters to see if people still care.

You know, years back, I expected you to be much more critical of the Switch due to its flaws. You were, but you seem to be a lot more accepting of the Switch compared to the Wii. I may not agree with some of your opinions, but that’s fine.
From my perspective, it all comes back to the videogames on the system.
The Switch has a lot more obvious hardware flaws compared to the Wii, but I'll take a bit of boring flawed hardware that has a lot of great games on it over an innovative console like the Wii with not as many good games on it.
I think Super Mario Galaxy was better than Super Mario Odyssey, but every other Nintendo franchise on the Switch completely demolishes it's Wii counterpart. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were way better than Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Super Mario Wonder was better than New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Dread was way better than Other M, maybe Metroid Prime 4 might not be as good as Prime 3, but we'll wait to see, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of my favorite Kirby games of all time, and the list keeps going and going.
Also, the third party support on the Switch CANNOT be understated. The fact I could play Persona 5 Royal on Switch as a flawless port is insane, there are so many great games on the system, and I feel like I never experienced that same kind of support with the Wii! If you rolled up to a local target or bestbuy during the Wii era, you'd just see a line a bunch of decent Nintendo games and then a massive pile of third party Carnival Games-esque bullshit. That's something I never experienced with the Switch!

I think in an alternate reality where the Switch didn't exist and Nintendo continued making handheld and home consoles, I don't think we would've even gotten any open world Pokemon games at all, so I'm kind of glad games like Pokemon Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet exist, despite them being absolutely jank. In my opinion, GameFreak would've gladly continued making 3-4 Pokemon Sun and Moon esque Pokemon games in 480p or whatever if they had the option. but I think the Nintendo Switch has unfortunately forced GameFreak outside of their comfort zone. While they are kind of eating crap right now, I do think the Pokemon series will be better as a result.
I do agree with the online stuff too, like if Nintendo wants to charge for Virtual Console stuff, then go ahead, but keep the online multiplayer free!

I feel like Paid Online has to die out somepoint, when a lot of people moving over to steam over Sony or Mircosofts over priced Onlines AND lack of game output.. as for Nintendo tho idk we should be grateful it's "cheap" but it probably won't be free for a long time
@@TwilightYonder720 To be honest, paid online was already stupid but Nintendo came and proved everyone it could be even worse with their own online "service". Emphasis on the parenthesis because you aren't paying for a service, you are paying for a PERMISSION so you can play online. And I say this because it doesn't have dedicated servers and most of the benefits (which some of them are abstent in countries like Mexico btw) just aren't worth.
The fact cloud save is locked behind a paywall is absolutely stupid as not only free on Xbox Series and PS (if you use a SD card on the latter), but also because of it's hybrid nature, you could easily lose it or even get it stolen with no chance to ever recover everything if you didn't pay for the "service".
The Switch has so many games but also so many owrformance issues. I have pretty much stopped buying any games for the system beside first party ones. Here's hoping Switch 2 actually improves them.
For the record, while the Nintendo Switch was a massive victory for Nintendo, I think that what it represents is a massive detriment to the way that Videogames as a whole used to be.
See, the Console Wars pretty much died with the 8th generations of consoles, with both Nintendo and Microsoft losing miserably to Sony.
For their 9th gen, Nintendo had to pretty much flee to the area of gaming they kept a dominance of, portables, while Microsoft decided to change their model altogether through Gamepass.
What this means is that the Big 3 are pretty much no longer competing with each other, because Sony pretty much kicked their competitors so hard that they fell off from the traditional Home Console market, as a result, all 3 of them have grown really complaisant up to a certain point.
Want proof of this? Well where's E3? ... That used to be the arena for them to compete in, where is it? It no longer exists, because these f-kers don't want to compete anymore.
I get what you're saying with Sony completely dominating the traditional console market, but Nintendo is absolutely putting up numbers and is competing in the same field, whether or not you consider the Switch a handheld or home console. If you want an extremely powerful home console, then Sony is the way to go, but you also have to consider that the PS5 Pro is not selling well. There's so much diminishing returns on the costs, AAA development is becoming way too unprofitable, and output of more powerful hardware isn't necessarily worth it as much anymore. At the end of the day, The Nintendo Switch is a good counterbalance to Sony's approach and as long as Nintendo continues to put out good games on the system at a relatively affordable price and has tons of third party support, Nintendo could potentially eat away at Sony's market dominance in the traditional console market as well. To put this in perspective, the lifetime sales of the Switch have now completely exceeded the lifetime sales of the PS2, which was Sony's top selling console of all time. If you think Sony aren't paying attention to that, you'd be crazy. At the end of the day, the Sony vs. Microsoft direct competion has always shifted between generations and just because Microsoft is seemingly out of the picture doesn't necessarily mean that Sony now has a defacto monopoly of the market. Nintendo is a real powerhouse in the market right now and if the Switch 2 is powerful enough to genuinely compete with Sony at a more affordable price, it could effect them as well.
As far as E3 is concerned, it's just a defunct media convention. With the advent of online presentations like Nintendo Directs and Sony's State of Plays, old school media circuits like E3 no longer need to exist. Instead of informing the media on video game news and having the media inform the consumers, now Nintendo and Sony can put out an online presentation directly to consumers and the media is going to cover the presentations anyways. They are still competing with each other, it's just not happening in person.
@@HyperCharge - Yeah, I made that comment right after clicking on the video, because it was something I wanted to get off my chest.
And part of the problem I had was something that was reflected in the video, where we let the Switch get away with very poor performance because it was the only one of its kind, so they didn't even need* to make a Switch Pro, because we* pretty much just had to put up with it.
However, I will say that I forgot how good the Switch really was, and that I started to remember that as I was watching the video, I guess all that pessimism has mostly been building up these past couple of years, that have been dryer because of them prioritizing the Switch 2 while not telling us anything about it.
I hope the Switch 2 turns out to be a banger because we really need one, I still think that the lack of competition I mentioned is true, and it has led to a lot of games not getting optimized in all aspects: Budget - Graphics - Gameplay Mechanics and more, it's like a radiation rotting a good chunk of the landscape!
The irony is that those are all problems happening outside of Nintendo, whose market is greener than ever, and if Sony is smart, they'll have to come in to Nintendo's turf and actually compete again, because their market has been greatly degraded by that metaphorical radiation.
As for the fidelity race, I think that Gabe Newell should keep that one to himself.

Ultimate is not a wii u port there are so many new features that were not present for wii u, they used the same ASSETS as the 4th game but otherwise it was a completely new game. Also sorry but 4 is easily the weakest game in the series, gameplay wise it's great but otherwise there's not alot of reason to go back to it like I can say for literally every other game in the series.
The Jimmy Kimmel and Switch Success Spiral bits were the ultimate 7-year payoff!
