The idea I’ve had for a Nintendo achievement system for a long time would be a sticker book. Each achievement is a sticker and you can place them in your book in different ways to really customize your collection.
I'm glad they did this, the Switch is arguably the best ever console in terms of success and sales. All it needed was to upgrade its hardware so that it can play 3rd party AAA games properly and improve its online features.
I fear that they might just patch a handful of games and leave hundreds more with no boost whatsoever. It's absolutely a no buy if tears doesn't get a free framerate boost
@LordMuzhy It will run 900p to 1080p handheld and around 1440p when docked depending on the game. For context a ps5 game would run at 30fps with DLSS and achieve 720p according to Digital Foundry. It's an iterative upgrade rather than a generational leap. Basically a switch Pro.
Yeah really. A switch with a better CPU and GPU, and more memory. That's all i really want. More ergonomic joycons that don't hurt so much to play handheld mode would be lovely too. But mostly just a stronger switch.
I wholly disagree. Specifically, I’ve never had a leak for a game I’m anticipating ruin my interest in said game but I respect your emotions on the matter.
Must also suck for those Nintendo people whether the devs, marketing, hardware guys getting their hard work leaked and sucking up all the hype and anticipation out of the air Supposed to be a fun time but hey yall need those interest points right?
@@RedBearNAaron I wouldn't say I've had interest in a game ruined either, but especially with leaks like this where every headline in my news feed is "Switch 2 to be announced this week.* And then the Switch 2 gets announced this week, there's not really any sense of surprise or anticipation, or that "Holy crap it's finally here" excitement either, imho.
DUDE describing its appearance as a "piece of hardware" perfectly encapsulated how I feel about the look. I couldn't put it into words but it doesn't look like a toy. No doubt I'm still gonna get it though XD
I think having adaptive trigger-like controllers like the ps5 should have been a feature considering Nintendo games. Would have been an easy upgrade imo.
Glad they taking the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it approach” what we have is great and spawned all kinds of handheld PC systems, switch 2 mainly just needs to be much more powerful, better servers, new smash bros and Mario kart
I like your thought of appreciating this moment, as the market potentially pushes out some console launches we’ve come to expect over the years. I think we also need to appreciate the fact that even in their pretty barebones reveal trailer for Switch 2, they MENTION PHYSICAL MEDIA. Physical games will remain a pillar of Nintendo’s new system, and THAT will not be a given in the future.
Personally I’m absolutely fine with the iterative approach. I love my switch, i just want it bigger and more powerful. I’m also fine with the dark mode styling, I’m a 32 year old dude, I don’t want the device I’m using to look like a toy. I’m hoping for customisable themes and layouts. I’m less fine with it probably not being OLED, it’s so hard to go back. I’m also worried about the connector chips in the side of the main device, those look so easily breakable.
I think the way they announced Nintendo Switch 2 might be due to some events. It seems that the reveal happened at CES 2025 when a hardware accessory company, which was not bound by Nintendo's NDA, showcased its accessories for the Switch 2 at their booth. Numerous images of the hardware spread across social media, leading to Nintendo's frustration in revealing it.
I really like the switch design in general. Portability and small form factor play an important role. I believe the new generation getting substantial hardware upgrade.
I personally like the neutral and minimalist design a lot. It doesn't scream GaMeEEeRrRrRr. I will either get the original or a Zelda one if they ever release one
I don't get the need for an achievement system. People shouldnt need a carrot dangled in front of them in order to want to play a game. Achievements should be a fun bonus, not a determining factor in what games/systems someone plays
How much heavier is it? How strong are the magnets the connect the joicons? Playing a fast paced game, mine would disconnect, even with the rails they just move along them and the game pauses killing the momentum, but my switch is old so who knows. My concern is I get playing and since there's no rail to guide the joicon when it inevitably disconnects from the switch, the weight of the switch will cause it to disconnect from the other and then plummets to the ground.
They kind of already have achievements now though very very limited. If they expand the platinum points system with the earnable icons and addd some themes as well then I think it would be a really cool, fun system
Great video Matty! It felt to me like a very underwhelming reveal when compared to the first one back in 2016 which really showed off the functionality. Also, this feels more like a GBA or 3DS and not really a brand new generational console. Oh and I don’t know if many are thinking of just how using the mouse would feel when sitting on the couch I guess you’d just scroll it on your leg?
Not every way, it lacks a oled screen which is a huge deal, in its place you get a chat button & mouse functionality that 99% of players will never use
Some commentors are gonna miss the point of Switch2, you're judging downstream from the prism of specs. The selling point of this is 1) hybrid 2) joycon control scheme 3) 1st party games. Even if Nintendo were to port games onto other handhelds, a lot wouldn't work. While some conventional games can work just fine, a huge % of their games are designed to utilize the motion features of the joycons/
I get everyone was looking for some huge change but if it’s not broken don’t fix it. Just advance apon what works. The look is just fine no need to change it. The screen being bigger is huge the could have left it the same as OLED. As long as the tech got an advancement that’s all that matters.
@ I’m playing off Marty’s words that he was disappointed that the look didn’t change. The Xbox looks dumb and the ps5 reminds me off stark tower in the avengers when Captain America makes fun of it. (I have and love my ps5) the look of these things don’t mean anything really. As I am typing this I would say larger joycons are a plus for me. But as long as the tech advances that would be what most ppl want in “just a switch 2” other wise just slap a 2 on the OLED and call it a day.
Series S performance more or less while docked based off leaked specs. I skipped the first Switch, but might have to pick up Switch 2 for Zelda, FE Three houses, and maybe if Gamefreak can pump out some good Pokemon games.
I'm super disappointed that the form factor is basically exactly the same. Since the Switch was launched, we have had a million different PC handhelds come to market, which made a lot of advancements in the comfortability of holding these devices for hours on end. Hopefully some aftermarket joycons come out that allow me to wrap my palms around them like VR controllers or controller handles.
I'm curious if this "C Button" will be a modifier to turn the left side d pad style buttons into C buttons in the spirit of the 64. Seems a bit redundant; have to wait and see.
Not surprised they didnt announce a retail price, mainly for the US. Why release a price then a couple days later a potential 20% tarriff gets added onto it.
It's bigger and better for my hands. I just wish they would've shown MORE games besides Mario Kart cuz Mario Kart 8 already looked gorgeous on Switch 1. This is just a teaser tho.
It'll be interesting to see how the leaks affect the Switch 2, but I still think It'll be close to hitting the same sales if not more than the OG Switch. We already have more info about the system and games because of the leaks than what they "teased" today, and they still had the gall to try to tease us with an April Nintendo Direct date assuming like we don't already know some of this info. Nintendo messed up bigtime in their pipeline by even letting this info get out there in the first place. It's unheard of except for the Xbox leaks because of a lawsuit. If the leaks hurt the sales of a really good portable Nintendo system, it's at least partially their fault. They could have jumped in front of this months ago.
Im pretty sure everyone is overestimating the power upgrade that Nintendo is going to put in this device. While it might be more powerful than the switch I stil think it'll be 10 years behind pc performance and probably 5-7 years behind consoles. Where the innovation needed to be was battery life and charge speed so maybe that'll be something to hope for.
Talking about back compat Achievements, the Kotor games would be awesome with Achievements. Especially if the remake never comes out, disappoints or doesn't come to xbox.
Do top 10 games (ports) you want to see on Switch 2. I don't really want to see achievements. Even though i was big on achievements, they force me to play the game while i want to enjoy the game. I played some games that i didn't enjoy just to get the achievements instead of playing the games i like. Plus, they kind of spoil story sometimes, i want to discover things more naturally.
I hope they fixed the thumbstick drift issue. It's ridiculous on my launch Switch. I still haven't decided whether I'm going to buy one of these. I'm so angry at the company for the things they've done over the last year that I think I'll skip it.
Nintendo fans should hold them to higher standards they nickle and dime customers and don’t take any risk, Mario,Zelda,Pokémon Milked to death, underpowered system etc
Atlast the switch 2 is finally here, but for some reason I feel lukewarm because it's been so long, there was too many leaks, and also they didn’t so that much besides the design
This is the thing, why would most want hardware/software, time & money spent on mouse functionality that I'm gonna use like twice over a nice oled screen & useful back buttons? Also if that's mk9 that was shown, it's looks no better than mk8. Campus button is underwhelming as well, wow switch now as a chat/social button. I will buy a Switch 2 when if it has OLED screen and achievements. Backwards compatibility was the other must have. Edit: if it enhances games then I’ll be heavily tempted day 1.
While the console looks cool, it’s nothing that my Steam deck OLED can’t handle. More games to play, emulation, more flexibility and freedom with SteamOS, more game sales, right to repair. It’s the ultimate handheld on the market right now.
In terms of sales potential though? No, Nintendo will always dominate the handheld space. Casual consumer ain’t buyin little Timmy a steam deck for xmas.
@ of course Nintendo dominates the market, no doubt, but you’d be surprised at how many young kids and young adults are starting to discover steam and what that platform offers. That a neat idea but Nintendo only put features in their consoles that no one wants except maybe 2% of their userbase.
I actually prefer the color tone of the new joy-cons. Gives the console a much more refined and mature feel to it.
The fact that Nintendo has normalized using mature and joy-con in the same statement is hysterical. Only Nintendo can get away with such things.
Nintendo did exactly what they needed to do for a new console. Just make the Switch but stronger with back compat
