Fire Emblem Three Houses kinda snuck up on me. Wasn’t expecting this video to be a long one, but when a game resonates with me this hard, I’ve gotta dig a little deeper!

Clemps get on with your bad self and finish the Nier and draken guard extras you haven't cover (like where the play of A2 or the Nier Automata porno that Yoko taro hid it somewhere (I'm gay but my straight friend who willing to watch for sake of it)
Loved the video! Advice for you next runs, though; you're off on the number. Three Houses has *four* different routes you can take, as the Black Eagle route branches off into two wildly different paths halfway through the game. Seeing as you already started with Golden Deer, I *heavily* recommend you do Edelgard's path, by building your support up to C+ with her quickly and then following the choices that support her in the story. The other path given, Silver Snow, is entirely too similar to Golden Deer's Verdant Wind, while Edelgard's Crimson Flower is the most unique of all four. Hope you enjoy them all!

Before got to know Leonie I refused to call her anything but HD Chie
He does have depth to him. It's just that it doesn't show through in all his support conversations.
Three Houses is my third attempt at getting into fire emblem and holy shit this game is great. I love the role of professor. It was so easy getting frustrated at units in radiant dawn and fates but in this title when Ashe misses his shot for the sixth time in a single fight I'm more like that's okay buddy we'll work on your archery skills after class this week
Haha you described the feeling perfectly with that example! It feels good to know all the students from the start of the game because they do fall under our responsibility as Byleth and I think a lot of us feel more sympathetic to them because of that. They feel like real people with backstories and personalities that change over time and that was super engaging the more I played
I think it's kind of a double edged sword. I'm almost finished with my first play through on the blue lions path and I'm broken up at the thought of killing my adorable former students in ng+. I know for damn sure I'm recruiting Mercedes every playthrough. Can't bring myself to murder everyone's big sister
Ashe went from the unit usually left behind accidentally on the battlefield to running solo on one side of the map while still being able to backup the middle of a map easily. He legit never misses a shot in the last few chapters and gets crits most of the time
@@MoistChungus Oh yes, Ashe is really that good! I had a hard time training my child in the beginning, but now he has over 45 dexterity and hits everything in a 4-mile radius. I will never leave my baby behind! Ashe is precious and must be protected! At all costs! And Lysithea is literally the most broken mage I ever used. And I really love Dimitri! That man is my life and I regret absolutely nothing.

Biggest negative of the game is sadly a very dreaded thing, yes I am talking about...
Not being able to pet the cats and dogs at the monastery, I mean wtf? It would make this 9/10 into a 10/10 easily.

I know...I have about a thousand fish in either my pockets or where ever the storehouse is and i cant feed or pet the kitties or the doggos? Also, apparently we keep owls as messengers and we cant feed them either. That future dlc better add animal care in it.

I think in Awakening it was done well and explained. But even without playing fates and just hearing about how it handled the s rank children was pure stupid. No real plot element. We just threw the babies into an alt dimension thing that super aged them. I mean some of the child characters I've seen are adorable and all but...why did it have to be like that?

Fates on the other hand... yeah. Hard to sympathize with the characters you're fighting with when they impregnate women during war time, shove them in a hyperbolic alternate dimension to give birth, then raise said children apart from their parents in said hyperbolic time dimension only to pull them out and make them fight a war.
Echoes didn't really underperform. It sold about as much as the copies they made. It's just that it was released near the end of the 3DS's lifespan.
Yep. Kinda hoping it get's some kind of re-release on the Switch at some point.
The final boss of echoes was brutal.

@@TheRagingSun coding romances so some of them are locked on one gender and some are shared with the other gender takes more time than using the exact same code for both characters.
Not locking romances and making every character bi would save them time that they could, as you said "use to improve the things they've already made".
The only thing they would have to do is change the pronouns used in the dialogues depending on the gender you chose to play as. But everything else would be the same between the male and female protagonist.

I picked Claude and the Golden Deer because I felt less pressure from him in the trailers for each house.
i picked claude because of that smile. That damn smile ! and because the GD seemed the odd one out and the weakest . wheter they are right or wrong , i always picked the side of the weakest , kumagawa style .
Ended up staying because everyone in the GD are amazing .
even after playing all the routes i can still say that the golden deer are the best for me.
I agree. Each route focuses on a different point of view. I heard that the golden deer focuses on the lore of the story. While blue lions and black eagles have their own routes but in a different perspective.
In a video game, I wanna learn the lore of the story, I'd rather do that than involve myself in a political brouhaha.
This game is so worth buying, the game is mostly the same for all 3 routes for the first half of the game, the biggest difference being the cast and story
But when you reach the second half of the game you have basicly 3 different games in one cartridge for 60 dollars

There's something satisfying about getting a notification for a video I'm already watching.
I'm glad to see Clemps has excellent judgement when it comes to the best house.
Great video but the history segment was a bit off, the series didn’t catch on until Smash is because it wasn’t even localized in the west until the 7th game.
Actually, when SSBMelee came out, thats the first time people, outside of a select niche who I bet already knew about FE, ever got to see Roy and Marth, and interest piqued. Thats why a few years, after the popularity of the characters in smash they finally brought the series to the west.
My second playthrough is with Golden Deer! My first was Black Eagles. It's been really interesting seeing how characters in different houses perceive each other as the story goes on. You really get to see the behind the scenes politicking and scheming that goes on to manipulate people. It's also interesting how so far no one looks purely good or purely evil. I'll be taking a break before and p[laying something else before going for a 3rd playthrough though. NG+ is good but I feel like I made myself just a wee bit too OP lol.
Why is it that people are so scared of Classic? There is always the restart button in older games, and now you can turn back turns.
Yep. The divine pulse mechanic was essentially a nod to making players lives a little easier for that. You've always been able to potentially lose characters permanently, but it's rare that I see anybody play through like that. Instead, most people lose a unit and reset the whole battle. And personally, restarting a 30+ minute battle because I made one boneheaded move has never felt appealing. The DP ability reaches for a middle ground since you have a limited number of them and it doesn't make the actual battle any easier. It just saves you the frustration of replaying over and over again.
Play on Classic. It’s basically impossible to reach a fail-state on Casual.
Hey Clemps, really loved the review. You did a lot of justice for the game without going deep into spoilerly territory since the story is pretty juicy throughout the game. I'm just going to leave my musings here for anyone that wanted an extra opinion on 3H after I've finished BL and GD.
Three Houses has been a real solid game, definitely in the top half of FE games overall. The way they utilize classic weapon ranks from something to grind up to a new interactive mechanic. The monastery's systems providing unique ways to grow and classes being directions for a unit rather than a set path really helped out with freeing up the game play. I can have Sword focused Wyverns or Fist based Snipers if I want and that's something completely new to the franchise that I've loved to play with. The game overall has been an enjoyable romp after 2 paths and I doubt the other 2 will disappoint.
One thing I'd disagree on within the video is the difficulty. Generally the enemies don't have a lot of skills or unique setups like Conquest and made enemies just their stat blocks. I'm waiting for the Lunatic update to see if the game gets more difficult than big numbers, but Hard mode really didn't have a lot of the difficulty built into unique enemy setups and skills that forced you to work around something outside of stats. I'm reserving judgement on game difficulty until we get Lunatic though.
Characterization in this game follows a general trend. C supports are gimmicky and really don't do individual characters any favor like you pointed out with Raph, but beyond that it gets really good for an FE game. For most games I'd say about 30% of supports are well written, but 3H has at least over 50% of the conversations being genuinely good, even some of the C supports fall into this. Some characters like Felix just tend to leave strong impressions in their C support and those come across really well, but there are a lot of eh supports as well. For sure a step up from earlier games.
I also have to say to anyone worried about the random stat growths that it's really not an issue. The game has an abundance of items that'll give you stat increases and you can change a units class which'll trend their stat growths in certain directions (ie putting someone into bandit will give them better HP and Strength growths, but worse Magic, Defense, and Resistance growths). The game is built to be winnable no matter how stat screwed your characters generally are since most of the students will at least get 1-2 stats per level. It makes each experience with the game different which is something I appreciate and makes replaying FE games more fun.
Three Houses overall has been a blast and, even being a pretty big fan of the series, haven't found a ton I want to criticize yet. There are things like the game's slow pacing and the general map design at some points, but overall I've been able to look past those things as I've been absorbed by the entire experience. I hope this review motivates some of you to try this game out since this is another unique Fire Emblem game that brings something new to the table just as every entry has.
Golden Deer was the last house I played with. Holy hot damn, best house, kinda glad I did it that way so that I got the best for last.

As a guy who played in Hard Classic, I can say you're concern with the time-rewind is taken care of. In the later battles I was using rewinds A LOT and every time it got more and more tense AND I HAD AROUND 12 USES.
I played True Black Eagles btw.

I absolutely love this game to pieces. There’s so much they did well with it. Down to the art style and how people depict their goddess. Close but you have no idea about who the goddess could really be. The Golden Deer boys and girls are my heart of hearts, I love them all so much especially Lysithea and Hilda freaking POWERHOUSE units. I love Seteth too he’s one of my favorite characters in the game surprisingly. Anyway I love this game and the fact you did a review of it makes me so happy.

Super excited for you to get more into the series. Genealogy of the Holy War has soooo much of the things you love, and is the most similar in tone to Houses, so consider that when you’ve gotten your fill of 3H.
That said I’m on my 7th playthrough of Houses and I’m really concerned about how I’m not sick of it yet. Genuinely fantastic.

I'm went in blind recently and chose golden deer. I've just got to march after a pretty good twist and I'm loving it so so much! As my first fire emblem it's way more fun than I thought it would be.
I'm so glad you reviewed three houses, I was so pumped when this game came out and play it every time I have some time.
However, Empire all the way. I love brooding Hubert and seeing Edelgard switch between her comanding Emporer and insecurities is amazing, and all the depth of the characters makes me want to do so many more playthroughs.
Flayn as Gollum is just perfect
Divinity Original Sin 2 has a nifty social link mechanic as well, where throughout the story, depending on who you have in your party, will change some events and endings to questlines. You're also given the chance to talk to them, individually or as a whole, and get their opinions, as well as get to know them better. It's a nice touch that doesn't force me to go out of my way of the core game just to make sure my mage is happy.
They will also interject in conversations if a character you're talking to is connected to that member's personal quest. Good game. Wish more people would play it

Even though I am late to both playing FE3H and owning a Switch to do so, returning back to a well written Clemps review still feels good--adding even more to the experience now that it's in my hands.

Since you're familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (don't know if it's the PSP version or whatever), might I recommend giving Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together - the remake on the PSP - a try? It's got everything War of the Lions had and more: Lots of characters with personality, 'old-timey Englishe' dialogue, no slowdown with combat animation, multiple endings, endless ways to break the game over your knee and, most of all, the precursor to the rewind mechanic used in Three Houses - The Chariot tarot, which allows you to rewind any and all actions up to 50 turns.
Most of the internet seems to have completely forgotten about the entire Ogre franchise, so, if anyhow possible, might I persuade you into giving the PSP remake a chance? It's worth a look, if for no other reason, then the fact that Final Fantasy Tactics was built upon the framework the original Tactics Ogre laid down.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together would like a word...
About 40 hours into my Black Eagles playthrough and loving it. I've never played a Fire Emblem game before, and playing this has made me go off and purchase Awakening and Fates to play in the future.
Heads up while awakening is pretty decent, Fates is... well... kind of a mess. Not to discourage you but neither of them have as in depth stories as three houses

I picked Golden Deer too - I found all the characters to be very compelling, Claude very much included.
The reference to Kaim from Lost Odyssey gives me hope for a review. I'd love to see it, considering that both it and Nier were considered the big cult classic JRPGs of the PS3 Xbox 360 era (It doesn't help that the former's thousand years of dreams sequences influenced the latter's Choose your own adventure segment in the forest area).

So I decided to check out your channel after I watched your video with buns, and when I realized that you are a fellow die hard fan of Final Fantasy 9, I could feel that I was making an excellent choice subscribing to you. Final Fantasy 9 is not only one of my personal favorite games of all time, but I share a connection to the game that not many people have. I was actually named after the scene with the summoning of Alexander and it was my first ever Final Fantasy game. (The only other one I've beaten is 15 and I got close to the end of 10, but I hate that game's bosses with a burning passion) I just had to type this in the comment section of the video that got me to purchase Three Houses.
Thanks. I played the previous Fire Emblem one and thought it was okay but was, despite all the accolades, unsure about this one until your review.

The thing that got me into FE was awakening, I saw the box art while at the mall and I begged my father to buy me it, I never regretted that decision.
Psst-hey-hey-Clemps you should do full on review of each house when you get the time. We would enjoy seeing how you enjoyed them each. But only if you have the time.
Currently playing the game because of this video. Wanted to say that. But also to find others to gripe with because trying to decide which goals my students should take on in order to reach the Master Class I wanted for them but being unable to concurrently see the requirements for the Master Class is a major headache.

I will say - having played hard mode - classic mode still is made a little too easy by divine pulse. I suppose it doesn’t have to be used.... but still. I wish there was a harder mode to the game. I felt like (having completed the golden deer route) there really weren’t enough places where I felt challenged enough by hard difficulty. Maybe that will change with the dlc I don’t know.
There's going to be a Lunatic Mode that will be patched in at the end of the year.
I always got a sense of a "young people have to shoulder the responsibilities of their elders and go off to fight a war" with the permadeath feature making an in-text reality check of what these pretty young warriors are doing to each other.

Coming from someone who has beaten most of the game in the series, and someone who's already beaten all the routes available, welcome to the series and the game. Overall great review! PS you're right about the divine pulse, the game should've only allowed 1/3, maybe even only 1/4, of what was given to the players, but that's just my opinion. Happy gaming everyone!

I had a feeling that the game would turn out great but wanted to check out some reviews before buying...sounds like it did.
Been enjoying Fire Emblem since Nintendo decided to gift Sacred Stones to early adopters of the 3DS and I've loved every Fire Emblem since.
I do get why some didn't like fates, my only issue with that game was having to buy half of it as DLC, but idea of dividing up the game in separate campaigns was great, playing as both sides in the conflict made the story that much deeper.
"Launch sales were around 15 times higher than Radiant Dawn". That's like, the shit lowest bar they could've worked with. That's a terrible comparison lmfao. RD was one of the absolute /worst/ sellers in the franchise because Nintendo completely failed at marketing for it, and now it and PoR are so popular that they've become the most expensive games in the franchise because they're so rare. They would've done better comparing it to more popular sales in the franchise. RD may be one of the more sough after titles because of its rarity, but it should honestly /never/ be compared to with sales. That's Nintendo's fault - not RD's - but it's still the actual worst sales comparison they could've ever made.

TH definitely did an amazing job with its supports. I haven't read supports this good since PoR and... that's unfortunately a very, very long time. That's over ten years ago. I was wary of how good TH might be because of the never ending controversy of how people handled the 3DS titles, and even prior, both remakes of Marth's games weren't exactly seen by the fanbase as exceptional. I stayed away from most of the promotional information until the game was almost out because I didn't want to start forming opinions on it too soon. It felt a lot better to not have many pre-established thoughts on it until I got to see the actual content. I think I enjoyed it a lot more that way tbh.

It's so good man. I'm not even a fire emblem guy, I usually stick to xbox/ps4 titles, but my girlfriend got me a switch for zelda awhile back and I picked up three houses on a whim. Say goodbye to sleep though lol
