  • It's no surprise to us that #Plovdiv was voted the 2019 European Capital of Culture. This beautiful city is exploding with culture and fun things to do! We spent the day exploring the city centre, and in this video we'll show you exactly what to do in Plovdiv, #Bulgaria.
It was a truly epic day! Here's the full list of everything we did:
    - Plovdiv "Together" Sign
    - Ancient Roman Stadium
    - Visit the Dzhumaya Mosque
    - Wander through Kapana District
    - Walk through Old Town
    - Lunch at Wok & Load (a thai food truck!)
    - Explore the pedestrian area
    - Bulgarian Dinner at Rahat Tepe
    - Watch the sunset from atop Nebet Tepe hill
If you want more information on everything that we did, here's the full list on our blog: jackandgabexplore.com/21-amaz...
Thanks so much for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe :)

    While in Bulgaria...
Sofia (do not forget the Rila Monastery) > Plovdiv > Veliko Tarnovo is an absolute must (the former capital of Bulgaria + Etara just next to VT. Varna > Balchik > Ruse (little Vienna) and then start off to Romania with Bucharest, which is around 70km away from Ruse. There are so many other places in Bulgaria, especially in the south.

Jack and gab try and go to parts of cities and towns that don't get mentioned in the usual tourist leaflets, places like i.e cathedrals, town halls, art galleries or a like which are GRT if that's all you want but most towns, cities have other cultural highlights happening...like I'm from Liverpool but moved to another city not far away called (Chester)both completely different on the surface but the similar underneath that skin....like in Chester the tourist are mainly shown things to do with the Romans because Chester was a massive Roman garrison town and very important to them...also my birth city Liverpool was named capital of culture in 2008 with stavanager in Norway which was something I didn't know that two cities are awarded it.... Plovdiv and mantera in Italy....

Worth mentioning is another beautiful place in Bulgaria - Белоградчи[ките скали (pronounced "Belogradchishkite skali" and meaning "Belogradchik rocks"). Would be better to research in advance the local food and restaurants/ places to eat. I see many foreigners consume crappy food or have no clue about the food in the country they are visiting, Ive seen people who put yellow cheese and ketchup on top of Shopska Salad *disgusting!. Bulgaria has beutiful nature, getting out of the cities is a good idea, places like Trigrad, Dospat, Shiroka Laka etc are amazing. Bulgaria is not commercialised as other places, therefore is normal not to know much about it, but if you dig deeper and have willingness to research you will find out that: we have lots of animal species, which you can still observe, such as bears - the biggest bear rescue center in Europe, bats, wolfs, many birds etc, there are many mineral water reserves and balneological canters, many caves, as well as location to find your own precious minerals. The mosque in Plovdiv is not just the oldest in the city but in whole Bulgaria. Do not make videos just for followers and views, rather make it more genuine to improve your own knowledge.

As a local I may say ABSOLUTELY TRUE!💯 In terms of nature, ancient landmarks, silence and cheap food Plovdiv are the best👍
*but some hidden problems here: pollution and rubbish, beggars, racism, abandoned buldings and dogs...no one covers it in Insta vlog videos(( #jamisover

you guys are not very good at this. This is one of the most beautiful cities on earth and i spent more time hearing your lunch order and seeing the food on your face than looking at historic architecture.
    keep your day jobs.

Some constructive criticism from me. Saying that you are impressed by the mosque and Thai food in Plovdiv is a bit like going to Saudi Arabia and saying that you are impressed by the churches and roasted pork there. I mean..,camoon guys,I know you are americans but how ignorant is that. Do some research before visiting country or city. All the best.

    Minute 11:38.
That stuffed cabbage is called "sarma" (singural. But you have more on the plate) and "sarmale" (plural), typical ancient Dacian food, from the time when Anatolia was Dacian teritory, not invaded yet by turks.
When the turks came to Anatolia masacring everything in site, they took over many Dacian dishes, names and recipies all together. Now they call the whole dish "Sarma". They had no clue that "sarma" is only singular. They call this dish "sarma" ever since.
Note: The original Dacian version of it is with grape plant leafs arround the minced meat. The sour cabbage leaf version came later.
"Rahat Tepe" (ever heard of Gobekli Tepe?) is turkish.
"Rahat" means "turkish delight" (loser style harden sugar jelly artifficialy coloured).

Sarmale is the plural form in Romanian - in Bulgarian it's sarmi. The Greek version (with vine leaves) is, IIRC, dolmades in Greek or "gratski/lozovi sarmi" in Bulgarian. And rahat doesn't mean "Turkish delight" (which is lokum), but "comfort, leisure".
