Plasticity’s latest release is here, featuring xnurbs, cv editing, dependent offsets, and a ton of small quality-of-life improvements.
Let’s focus specifically on the CV editing feature! Inspired by this amazing Siemens NX video • NX Design - How to cre... - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
Thank you for making the 3D modeling experience so much fun! Creativity meets freedom.
I'm sold. I think this update is the tipping point for me to invest in buying this software.
This is like applying sub-d modeling skill to a CAD workflow and its awesome.
You won’t regret it. It’s so good
Holy Moly! It was already the most super intuitive CAD I've used before this update.. but now it's another level! Thank you so much for pushing this tool forward 🥰😇
Nick, you are a fucking MONSTER at turning out these updates. Great work man! I recommend Plasticity to every person that is into 3D that I meet. So happy to have purchased a copy.
You rock!!! No joke, I was literally searching around last night to see when to expect the next update. Then today this! Looking forward to trying these new features!
Do you know what synchronicity is?
@@alimariwankamal1937 I do. It's a bit trippy isn't it? Almost in a deja vu type way.
@@alimariwankamal1937plenty of us have been searching for the update release date, cos it's seemed imminent for a month now, ever since we started seeing xburvs videos, and Nick even mentioned it'd be coming out in Q1 of 2024. There's no need to believe in Jungian magic lol
AMAZING, I really love the new features and improvements. Thank you!!
This program really correlates well with its name! Love it!!
FULL UI Customization and I would buy this for sure! Time management is key. Awesome progress to NX Tech. xNurbs is also amazing! Keep up!
Incredible! I can't wait to play with these. Thank you
OUTSTANDING software Nick! Early adopter of Plasticity and loving the continuous improvements and surfacing tools. Plasticity + Blender is a formidable team. Mahalo!
Raise Degree ... is going to change my work flow! Thank you Nick!
I've been on the fence since launch but I think you just sold me with this update. Phenomenal!
I believe it was me who originally posted the link to the nx feature/video :D :D cheers
This is Incredible!!! Thank you so much to keep evolving and improving this amazing tool!
Looks incredible. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'm digging the CV editor, which is clutch for things like complex shapes
Can’t wait! Plasticity is the best program I’ve used in a long time
Applause! Nice features have been added! Thank you very much!👏🙂
so much fun using plasticity. Would be nice to have the option of importing SVG. for regular license. I feel this is the feature that everybody would use. For exemple transfering logo from illustrator
Just thankyou! Amazing update as always. Keep this great work, congrats!!!
Lol the discord noises kept making me alt-tab XD
Awesome update Nick, I tried following along modeling and yeah it's crazy cool how easy and fast. Great Work buddy!
Great uptate! Very powerfull tools!
Thank you for your work!
Excellent work, Nick!! Thank you!!!
Wow. So excited to try out the new festures! Amazing work.
bro you are the best, plasticity is fabulous, every new functionalities comes always at the right time for my needs
This is amazing. Thank you so much for your hard work
Plasticity already saved me few times, I am happy to buy it. Very good work.
Keep up the amazing work! Please bring in parametric history too. Absolute game changer when that comes along. You will completely own the market by that point.
amazing...simply amazing software...thank you!
This looks crazy good!
Now im thinking to upgrade my version
the dependent offset function is amazing!
Oh my God thats so cool Nick! Awesome stuff!
Plasticity is like at the oposite side of Alias and Fusion in terms of being fun to use! Why cant these expensive programs be this user friendly, i understand that they do a lot more but man its a shame. Props to the developers, using it is such a joy, almost effortless but still gives great results.
Alias was developed 40 years ago, and the interface really never evolved...
Sometimes it's easier to build from scratch than to rebuild an existing app, which was built with 30 years ago hardware in mind and tech available at that time
Please explain the license again and which tools are in studio vs indie.
OMG, what a thing of beauty this upgrade is! I cannot wait to get it installed and use it.
"Just getting started"? Wow, if this is just getting started, it will be an even more amazing product soon!
I still remember the first days of plasticity , nice !
It`s great to see these awesome updates! Keep up that good work.
Congrats Nick! I already renew :) Keep up the great work.
Excited to dive in into this new release 🔥
I am a plasticity supported in June 23, and I personally think that the current buyout system has a big problem, it is better to change to monthly payment and annual payment, and now the 2.0 version has been updated, resulting in many 1.4 users who bought the studio version before can't use it.
All studio licenses can access this version
Just wow. Bought the tool. You are building an amazing tool.
fantastic update! Thank you!
Sweet, need to get on the next upgrade!
This update is madness!!! 🔥🔥🔥🚒
Looks awesome. Gonna scrape together the loot for the studio version this time, methinks.
Do you get a discount on studio if you have indie already?
Hey there, just wanted to say the workflow in Plasticy is absolutely brilliant! I'm loving using it for my CAD projects. I had a few ideas that I thought could potentially make it even better:
It would be super helpful to be able to adjust the transparency/opacity of imported images. This would make it much easier to trace things when needed.
The imprint function is genius, I use it constantly now. I was wondering, is there any way to reverse this? Like taking a curved surface and unrolling it to a flat pattern? That would be game-changing for creating flat patterns for parts that need to be bent into shape later.
Have you considered adding a gallery where users can share models they've made in Plasticy? I think building a community around it would be a great way to get more people using it and seeing how powerful it is.
Keep up the amazing work, you're going to give Autodesk a real run for their money!
Just some thoughts, but seriously, thank you for creating such an awesome CAD program. It's an absolute joy to use. Looking forward to seeing where you take it from here!
nice work Nick !
Fantastic update! From the first segment of the video though it’s unclear how custom matcaps are imported. Could someone explain how it’s done? We could kinda hack this feature in 1.x, but I’m assuming there’s a proper way now.
Why is it asking me to renew my license for this version, if when I bought it, it said 12 month updates?
This is classed as ver 2.0. Did you own the Indie 1.0 licence like I did? If so, this classes as a major update and so isn't included
@@iKaGe01 Ah, I see. So it's not really 12 months. Had I bought 1.4 yesterday, they would already ask me for another 100$.
@@sert87 No as after 2nd October 2023 a purchase of Indie changed from 99 dollars to 149 dollars.
The 149 version included updates for 12 months INC major updates, so this update today would have been included.
To get the update they have released today, I'd have to shell out an extra 100 dollars.
I do wish I'd waited 2 months to purchase as would have only cost 50 rather than 100 but it is what it is.
@@sert87 Yes this guy is a scammer who changed his pricing post launch. Actually illegal.
@@sert87you should have access to this version update, but NOT to the xnurbs functions, since that's only included in the Studio version. All the functions shown here should be viable though, I think.
Edit: the site says purchasing an Indie license provides "All version updates included for 12 months, including major releases".
My God! YEAAAH!!! I enjoyed using Plasticity 0.1 but i really missed to have a T-Splines like functionality like in Fusion 360. Here it is.... Now there is no reason to use other CAD for me for hard surface modelling... Definetely sold on version 2... Happy to have supported the development by purchasing 0.1 as well. Thanks! Amazing!
It's not quite as flexible as t-splines but it's quite powerful in its own way
HOLY F@#$! Glad you chose Parasolid. I have used NX before and currently use Siemens Solid Edge. I love the direct editiing capability in SE and it seems you've implemented the Parasolid capabilities similarly. Now with this surfacing CV manipulation, Plasticity is positively blowing doors. (not to mention Xnurbs!) I have to wonder though, how long until other CAD companies come knocking to snap up what you're doing, it is likely too disruptive for them. I hope Plasticity has a long life as an independent company!
To them though, it's not that disruptive. NX and SE are corporate manufacturing , product life cycle data packages - Plasticity is only a very good shape modeller. Can you see the difference? Remember that NX video was 15 years ago. I think NX has added other modelling tools since then. I'm sure Rhino and MOI are more interested in what Plasticity is doing though.
I'm really worried Plasticity is going to out price its user base. The license increases were understandable but now with XNurbs being studio only (and only partial function on indie, someday, maybe?), I feel like the actual indie market (that would go for studio) will just not bother. This isn't a hate thread by the way, I think Plasticity is great, I just feel the price increases going forward is going to be hard for solos.
To my understanding XNurbs is a fairly expensive licensed technology, why it is only available in the Studio version. There’s a clear reason why f.ex. Rhino has XNurbs available only as a paid plugin - XNurbs is for most users a non-essential, but expensive, feature. If that applies to Rhino’s customer base it applies 100x for Plasticity, so I fully understand why it’s not available in the Indie-version, but I’m also quite surprised it was decided to include in the Studio version. Not that I’m against having the tech available, but it may become a burden on the pricing and set a course for even more disparity between the versions.
You came a long way since i first tried the beta ... lets see how plasticity can complement Alias, which is my main tool ... awesome !
This brings me back to 1996, CV editing in Alias Power Animator. I loved it then, and now we can do it on steroids in Plasticity, thanks Nick!!
Yep, NURBs revisited. I also have warm feelings towards NURBs, because it was always a beast with some weak spots slowing it down. Now buckle up!
Wohoo!!! Nick, you rock!!! 🥰😍🤩
Damn there are some major improvements since I last checked this program out. That said devs went full Tim Cook with the pricing...
thank you for the release!! we need to renew the license to get the update ?
CV editing is so tasty!
ah unlucky me has bought it in april, so i need ot pay the upgrade fee.
Though im gonna wait a bit to see what else might come :) Great job as always!
some good new features. but ! if It can snap imported obj files(now id “empty” objects), which attracts me the most.
Almost SubD))) Lovely jubbly. How to update software?
Very impressive!
The discord notifications make me laugh. Beautiful program! I can't wait to try this out myself!
Thank you!
Tried getting into plasticity for the 2nd time in a year or so and again, I found it so frustrating. There feels like a serious lack of fundamental features that CAD software demands you have but this doesn't. Having CAD in the name atm sounds disingenuous. I've heard the same from CAD people trying it out, but I hear the opposite from people who have come from blender. It definitely seems to be more for that crowd even though I WANT a cad software that's shaped to be a bit more artistic but it seems it's much more artistic than CAD atm.
Ill keep trying and i'll be posting videos of my experience in real time with the software but man, I usually pick up cad software easily because it's fairly intuitive, this I found myself spending 15 minutes on one simple task if I even got to do what I was looking to do at all. :s
I think Siemens would pay for Nick's skills. In just a few months he created a super powerful 3d modeler. Now it's time to add a beautiful UI.
fantastic! I really like all the new features! keep going 🫶
Seeing this video and the new features made my decision to upgrade easy.
(to do it, btw)
So cool update !!!
Thank you!!!
How to add material on different surfaces, was trying earlier and realize that was not easy at all?
Awesome! On the topic of consistent design language. Can you Match Fillet or Chamfer? Say I add a new piece of geometry and I want it to have the same fillets on it as on another part of the model. Can I Match the Fillets?
Yes you can! With fillet is possible.
blya it's JUST AWESOME!!
That remove fillet from shell.....mind blown! That is huge! So glad to have discovered that feature! Can't tell you the number of times I put myself in such a bind because I got too eager to start filleting my models too early in the development and then not being able to make necessary changes because edges have been fillet, and I just have to go with it. Thank you for showing this!
incredible!!
you.are.the.man! Love it!
CV editing very powerful for designers experimenting shape and forms. NK is forcing me to buy Plasticity - that's outrageous!
Super update and exciting to see how far this has developed in a year. I am very much considering upgrading to studio for the xnurbs features, however in the video you stated that these are not available for Linux currently. Is this something that will be arriving at a later date during the 2.x upgrade cycle? If so I think an upgrade is emminent :)
We have asked but it is unlikely they will port xnurbs to Linux unfortunately
Excellent!
I'm an indie user. New feature looks great. Do I have to buy studio license again to use this functions? Isn't there any option to upgrade?
xNURBS requires studio but all of the other features in this release are available on Indie
Is there a plan to do a timeline like some cad packages have? I feel like it would be so beneficial for a software like this
Sorry, got this mixed up for plastiq, a credit card transaction processor.
Best software ever. But if plasticity improve the obj export so the ngon lines are connected along bevels, now that would be a game changer
mental (p.s. xnurbs are fire)
Just got studio!!! ❤🎉 hope I get some 2.x with it too 😂
Could you show in a clip how you extrude the surfaces of an imported dxf file? A complex logo or so, converted into a path and then extruded and worked with in Plasticity.
If plasticity is going to be this destructive with its edits it needs non-volatile undo history stored in the .plasticity file. Having undo history just stored in ram is pretty brutal.
This is a HUGE reason why I have hesitated to pull the trigger. I'm far too stupid to know what I'm doing when I'm doing it, and I love being able to step my way forward and backward to get my bearings.
yeah a history tree would make it much better
I work with my laptop just with suspend mode instead of turning off. Windows complains for days now that I have to reboot because of updates. But I don't like to lose my history in Plasticity. ;)
@@andreasbramftl1106 SAME. I have managed to trick the software into running on my steam deck and I just have to just keep it running...forever! but sometimes the whole thing and all my windows crash anyways and I have to lose my undo history🥲
@@jrhager84 The devs have talked about adding it. In the mean time, I came up with the very jank and MSpaint style solution of copying all my geometry into folders before I make major irreversible changes. the Linux compatibility and curvy-nurby-spliney features easily make this my favourite CAD package, but this is a MAJOR quality of life issue. Shipping the next major version without robust umdo history features is an absolute embarrassment.
Great update! I'm in)
Nice and Thanks
Is available for Indie version also?.. I mean.. If I not update to Studio.. Can I use Xnurbs?..
I have over 20,000hrs of seat time in Siemens NX and can confirm that it is indeed the most powerful CAD software ever created. If people knew what the NX Xform tool was really capable of their minds would be blown. This seems like NX in history-free mode but with a nice clean approach! Looks pretty awesome so far! Knowing it runs the super robust parasolid kernel is a huge benefit. My question @nickkallen1 is; how on earth are you licensing the parasolid kernel AND selling this software for so cheap???? NX with the advanced surfacing tools is at least 15K. Obviously it has a TON more functionality but still. Is this some offshoot experiment by Siemens or something? Seems too good to be true. Will there ever be an associative bridge to NX?
its probably some cut down version and yeah its probably siemens trying to get more people interested in working with this stuff since the whole industry is going down the shitter with everyone wanting to me an influencer instead of a mechanical designer. BTW does this thing do mechanical simulation with pivots and solids interaction like gears, does it do wear and tear and material simulation, does it do surface optimization based on stress sims? because thats what everyone is doing in the industry and you should know this. This is nothing but an improved version of MOI
Well Siemens (NX) licenses Parasolid to many companies, including their biggest competitor, SolidWorks. They do reserve some functionality for sure. (eg, anything dealing with explicit degrees/spans doesn't really exist in Parasolid). But 90% of it is there for anyone to use. It's a bit of a strange business model. Parasolid is actually very expensive from my perspective! It's worth it though.
It's definitely worth it @@nickkallen1 I recently found your video from last year on making the decision of which kernel to go with and you made the right call. I just never would have guessed that it could be licensed for so little. Parasolid is such a rock solid file format for i/o too. I love how you're keeping the user interaction fast and simple. Not having explicit control over the degree and spans will eventually limit the freeform surfacing capability but then again, keeping things simple is nice. It would be amazing to see some Alias style CV manipulation eventually. I really miss sculpting in that software. Keep up the great work! and never ever EVER go subscription based!
@rayk393 Thats a ton of time. I can only claim less than half that in NX. What I like about Plasticity is I can practice different complex exercises and play at home for a fraction of the cost. I don't spend nearly enough time surfacing, so it keeps my mind fresh when I need it. I don't get the same level of confidence at home with other modeling kernels.
Sorry but it seems to be a scam, 9 months ago I paid the license because you said that I would be able to acces to the rest of 1.xxx versions, and then you jumped from 1.4 to "v2024.1". Reconsider your strange decision and let us update to this new version, because In my country its no so easy to pay "200" dollars for an update because you decided to play with your offer promise.
The version number went from 1.4.20 to v20241.2 . Version numbers do not go from one to ten. Are you angry Blender went from 3.6 to 4.0? This criticism doesn't make any sense
@@nickkallen1 bruh, it's free so no one complain, even big ass companies like maxon, adobe.... allowed you to upgrade to their newest version within a year. Oh well, pirate life for me yoho =))
@@nickkallen1 It does make sense. Support for 1 year? no. you guys are just greed. Remembered the time when you told us who "early adopt" have 1 years free of upgrade? WHERE IS THAT NOW? I really hope Plasticity has a strong ground to stay with upcoming years but now I just hope you guys fail hard. go ahead, charge more and keep thinking you guys are unique, I could live with freeware or my old 1.4 instead of these updates.
@@monsterinsane2228 One year ago we offered a Studio license with 12 months of free upgrades and an Indie license with access to only 1.x features . Please see this video th-cam.com/video/Kx3UX4ldjJA/w-d-xo.html and this video th-cam.com/video/xOftfx05l14/w-d-xo.html
It is now over one year since our 1.0 launch and our very exciting "2.0" release is now available!
Anyway, the great thing about perpetual licenses are: you are free to keep Plasticity v1.4 forever and never need to pay us again!
@@nickkallen1 I've been trialling Plasticity this week before deciding which version to buy. But this is worrying. Did you indeed promise a year of updates for v1.x and then change the naming to 2024.* and not allow people to upgrade?
Hi, thank you for your beautiful job, could you tell me please if i can somehow delete those points if I set too much of them ? Tried x, shift+x but doesnt work
you can't delete the points of surfaces but you can use the Rebuild command to simplify the surface
How about a Tool for creating DIN metric screws/screwholes? rly missing something like that in my Tests.
Are you planning to add history editing features like fusion 360?
How do I update from a previous paid version?
www.plasticity.xyz/upgrade-renew
Magic!
I just purchased a standalone license. I know that it is possible to upgrade to study, but... What is the procedure to do it. Thank you.
