In my opinion, Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500 is still the best beginner controller. It has RGB performance pads, TS and RCA outputs, AUX and microphone inputs and easy to use loop buttons.
Absolutely! I had to switch to rekordbox unfortunately and for similar prices you get lower build quality, I miss my 500 so much, expecially those amazing rgb pads 😢
@@PichettoFratame Lately I was able to use a Pioneer XDJ-RX3 and I couldn’t see my hot cue comments on the device, which was a major let down. Only colors were seen on the screen so performing became harder.
The best things about your videos is that you always talk in comparison, that is the biggest sign of professionalism. I appreciate that you always present Rekordbox vs Serato vs Other SW features on every controller, not only concentrating on one software. Keep it up Carlos, you are the best!
This channel and a few others helped me get back into djing, and i have not looked back. The tips for transitions and a good evaluation of the controllers is what gave me the confidence to buy a DDJ800 years ago. I personally would love a FLX10 but outof my price for now. One of the few channels i feel we get legit and honest advice.
@@djcarlo I agree, one of the clubs i play at a few times a month is using the XR3 and that is a good unit as well for a stand alone. Keep the videos going man thanks again.
Most (if not all) controllers on the market work with VDJ, and allow full customizable mapping functionality. VDJ is unique in a way that because the versatility and how open the software is to let you do whatever you want, it’s hard to pin down “the best controller”, the best controller would be the one that either gives you all the features YOU personally NEED ergonomically, or the controller that mimics club setups
I loved your review of the DDJ-GRV6 as it is on my purchase list for this Black Friday. I am a new DJ and I appreciate the comparisons of all the other controllers. All your videos provide a wealth of knowledge!
I have the FLX4, I'd say I'm a new intermediate DJ, and I can't lie, its great value for everything you can do! Spot on advice there Carlo! On the other hand, that FLX10... that is a beast! what an upgrade lol!
I think the DDJ-FLX10 is the best gear from this video! Actually so much value for the price thats why it is for me the best even though i haven’t played on it.
Love understanding the capabilities of the non-AlphaTheta/Pioneer units, but it's hard to break away from the club standard when it seems like they have established themselves universally as the go-to controller/CDJ/etc.
Personally, my favorite DJ controllers are the Hercules Inpulse 500 (even though it’s not featured in the video, I’m attached to it because I started playing with its 'little sister,' the Inpulse 200) and the Pioneer FLX-4. I think they’re the perfect balance for anyone who doesn’t need extreme performance but wants to liven up parties with friends (and why not, some smaller gatherings) without giving up many of the features found in more expensive and professional controllers. I hope to win the giveaway so I can gift my old controller to my brother, as he’s also starting to get into this world. I believe the DDJ-FLX10 is the perfect controller to upgrade and start playing seriously. Love from Italy 🇮🇹
love all your content! i currently run a ddj flx6 but am looking to upgrade to a flx10 or xdj unit in the future! your insights really help me form a better idea of what i want to invest in for the future. thanks carlo !!
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Thank you, this breakdown is a needed update in the new world of controllers haha. I’m looking for 4 channels but am torn if I should spend more for a standalone or keep using the laptop
use the Gemini MDJ-900, which is a great and affordable option. It works really well with Virtual DJ, and I pair it with a Behringer DJX 750 mixer. I’m really satisfied with it because, by simply remapping one or two cue points, I can easily access the stems.
Gonna participate in a DJ contest soon, winner gets to perform on a festival... Do you have any tips on song selection? I wanna win but idk if I'd make it with my collection of house...
im gonna buy the xdj xz, is that a good controller For a DJ who has played on a FLX4 for 2 years and would now like to switch to a stand alone for larger parties and activities? please let me know
It's good for any DJ, especially mobile DJs. Since I only have a phone that is suitable for running DJ software, the FLX4 and FLX2 are very high on my list. I started on turntables in 1986 but stopped mainly because I couldn't get the jog wheels to scratch without a delay on the RMX 2 and also never used cue points extensively or the sampler. I never had anybody explain it well, until I found DJ Carlo and also DJ Angelo, both with foundations in hip-hop as that is the genre I started with and still my favorite to play.
I primarily use Serato & Rekordbox, but DJay works fine. I use the Pioneer DDJ-SX, and I have a DDJ-200 bcuz it works with my iPhone when I want to casuallyDJ wherever. BUT, what I really need is a Pioneer XDJ-AZ.
A very good video, I think if you are really really starting out then yes something like the FLX2/Hercules DJ control are the way, but if you are semi serious then flx4/numark mixtrack style, or if you can stretch the budget, grab a mixstream pro go (or plus if you don't need the battery). I think for standalone experience, the mixstream is hardest to beat, given that the software (engine) will be the same on the high end prime 4+ for example makes for an easy transition. I have one (pro+) and I really think it's an immense bargain for what you get. Especially now it has stems support (coming in Dec for a one off free). With this you can go serato, VDJ, standalone+Engine PC libraray or just engine without the Pc. Sadly though, inmusic are being buggers with the built in screen. Algoriddim Dejay does support the mixstream but the screen. They can't access it apparently / inmusic won't allow them.
The Rane is definitely my fave, but “having to use” rekordbox because all my dj friends are on that platform I have to stay with flx6 and hopefully one day flx10
Tbh, I'd say not to follow what everyone else does (or uses), and go with the software and hardware you truly like! If Rane is calling, then I think you know what to do 🥳
@@djcarloI know, but I wanna grow and in the DnB scene here all my friends are on rekordbox making it harder to have B2B if I’m not on the software. Plus I have to say after getting used to it I love that you have memory and hot cues there. I just wish the pioneer controllers (expecially the more budget ones) were like Rane or Hercules ones, or they opened up rekordbox to more controllers
I might try and just get the GRV6 to replace my FLX6. It's *fine*, but the effects panel being the way it is drives me up the wall and I never use Merge FX. Rotating a dial makes more sense than pressing a button four times to get to the next channel for effects, and the Groove Circuit gimmick seems like it's actually usable in a real performance. Of course, the one I actually want most is the FLX10, but it's out of my price range. So many more nice features overall, but in particular I'm very interested in using the on-controller buttons to only apply effects to specific stem channels, I'd go crazy with using stems for transitions (and also keeping effects away from the vocals when I play hip-hop) but it's not intuitive to mouse over and turn them off and on with the trackpad, especially live lol
I believe I discussed it at length already last year, and a lot of DJ gear needed highlights this year around (30 minutes of video lol). I did mention it at the end though!

Thank you for this video I was actually thinking about getting a controller just to start learning how to dj. Open to Everyone: How would anyone compare the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 to the Hercules DJ DJControl Inpulse 500?
Not really! It came out in 2019, so it's fairly outdated. The secondhand segment are my personal picks as well, and I haven't had much time with the 707M
That's fair! Engine DJ is still newer in the game, so let's see if they can play catch up. Though, in its defense, it's more geared for standalone equipment

Nice tho) But kinda have to disgree- it might not be ideal for "getting into Djing" IMO removing 3 band eq removes too much fun especially if you just starting ourt. However as a welcome/ceremony/music preparation controller for already experienced dj- this little thing is really good. It's got a lot going on for it's small size
Fair assessment! But I still believe it's for those who aren't completely sure yet, and just getting into it. Quite a number of folks have gotten into it and let their 3 band EQ gather dust haha
I am 40 years old and have started practicing to mix music on Hercules 200 , will keep practicing for couple of months than decide if I can DJ for events, and get a professional console. Need tips to stay motivated 😂
Some of these things are too heavy to do mobile gigs with, I'd go with an FLX10 overall but I love the T7 as a scratch/hip-hop DJ and it's still lighter than the other motorized controllers on the market.
I got one used for about 500, and with the exception of the big useless mergefx knobs I'll have to remap, it's great if you really need a 4 channel and don't want to drop 1000. It's HUGE however. Glad it has performance pads rather than the little baby buttons

For indian....
Some of these things are too heavy to do mobile gigs with, I'd go with an FLX10 overall but I love the T7 as a scratch/hip-hop DJ and it's still lighter than the other motorized controllers on the market.
What about FLX 6??
It has been replaced by the grv6!
I got one used for about 500, and with the exception of the big useless mergefx knobs I'll have to remap, it's great if you really need a 4 channel and don't want to drop 1000. It's HUGE however. Glad it has performance pads rather than the little baby buttons
i have the FLX 6 and its insanely good i got one barely used for 500 euro and damn its nice deal

🥳

Which controller is your favorite on this list?
Salut frérot, peux-tu faire une démo des stems sur Prime 4 +, j'ai lu que pour les autres systèmes Denon, Numark la mise à jour serait de 10 €.
Good suggestion I will definitely get into it once I have the time but so far from my testing it sounds incredible
@@djcarlo 🙏
