Tiger Heli. Oh man this game and Magmax drove me INSANE! I got em for Christmas and every game I had played up till that point had an ending, so I resolved one weekend to beat these freaking games! I stayed up all night, got so good I knew where every enemy was and was destroying them before they could even get on screen, got 10 extra lives by the 130th level, hadn't even died once and I was beside myself. That's when I knew, this game doesn't end?! lol looking back it should've been obvious but as a kid I felt betrayed. I felt I got cheated out of knowing the story (thinking back though, I don't think there was a story at all, besides you're the helicopter, kill everything else lol.) a lot of undue hate I had for this game now alleviated. Thanx Mark.
I remember spending my first pay check working at a pizza place when I turned 16 to buy it for my brother for a Christmas gift the year he got his NES, that music will always sound like Christmas 88 to me.
First played Tiger Heli when I was on leave in Osan, South Korea. I remember being amazed at how detailed the graphics were compared to other games at the time. It's been a favorite classic game ever since. Thanks for the review.
I used to play this at circle k when convenience stores had arcades. Someone figured out if you put a nickel in a certain way it would register as a quarter. A lot of nickels where is spent on this game.
Second game for the NES I ever got when I was like 6. My grandparents took me to Sears to get SMB2 but they were sold out. This is what I picked out instead because the box looked cool. Wasn't disappointed. Played it for weeks. Simple game, but pretty fun.
This was my first game besides the pack-in SMB/Duck Hunt cart. Played the shit out of it. Got so good I'd just loop it over & over without dying until i got bored.
4:21 So weird, especially with all the great helicopter shooters of the '80s and '90s - you already mentioned Twin Cobra, then there's Choplifter, Thunderblade Silkworm/SWIV, Desert Strike and its sequels. Heck I might as well throw in Thunderblade, even if I didn't think it was all that good a game - but Sega Superscalar tech, man!
I thought Steel Empire for the Genesis was the best shooter published by Acclaim (well "Flying Edge" by that was just another brand name to get around Nintendo's third-party exclusivity thing).
Mark, IIRC there's an option in the NT console menu to make it support more simultaneous sprites, thus reducing the flicker. From 8 to 16 sprites I believe.
I had this game as a child and it is pretty much the reason why I don't like 2D shooter games. Blowing up houses and parked cars was pretty cool though.
Hi l am new here! l am on the mission on trying to find arcade heli shooter l used to play in 90's this was based in Turkiye/Turkey, but this arcade heli shooter was way behond its time it was green heli and on arcade you played /shoot from left to right!. l used to play MR DO! and street fighter l believe was the first edition on arcade but l really would love to have that experience again can anyone please help me? where can l get this game and what is it called? l would like to thank you for listening and helping me in advance!
Never judge a game by it's publisher... Always look at the developer, as well as the original developing company (with ports). Tiger Heli was developed by Toaplan ,which explains a lot.
Fire Mustang for Mega Drive is probably my favorite animal-based shooter title. Though a rather unknown game, seems to still be pricey (it has the Taito logo on it, that has to be why :P ). Odd, a Japanese-exclusive WW2 side-scroller shooter.
This game felt more like Atari than Nintendo. I guess its cuz the graphics are so plain and it feels like the game goes on forever like many Atari games didn't have any endings. It reminds me of the Atari game River Raid. To be fair this is a good game, but I don't remember playing it that much. I think the main reason was you could go super far but then have to start all over again if you lost all your lives. This was common with NES games. Yet the difference between them and Tiger Heli, was with Heli when you restarted you had to slowly wait for the screen to scroll upwards. You couldn't just speed to where you wanted to go. So, you'd be stuck having to wait for 1 tank, then 2 tanks, then uggh! Similarly you are limited to the one scrolling screen, it just felt too claustrophobic. This game would had been much better if they allowed the player to dictate the speed at which they went through the level.
Hey Mark! I went to a local store and tried to convince the manager that Power Strike featured helicopters, but he stil wants 80 bucks for it... Another strategy?!
When ur 8, playing on a friends NES since ur parents wont by one, it was the best heli game ever...played the Top Gun game but that was super hard to figure out...especially after playing nothing but mario, mega man, and a little batman
He's been reviewing for like 20 years. He's done more than a few SNES reviews in that time, but he's into older games. At his age "classic games" means something a bit different than it does to people your age.
He's been reviewing games for like 15 or more years. Chances are high he's reviewed everything once already. XD I remember a bunch of snes games about 3 or 4 years ago...
You definitely are not supposed to be saving the people... you are supposed to kill everything that moves. Kind of dark actually but in fact, in the first stage you get a 5,000 point bonus for repeatedly shooting the hospital until it blows up. War is hell.
I hated this game as a kid. I found it very difficult and bland. I think I may have even returned this one or sold it within days. I may have to check it out again some day.
At the time this game just looked like junk to me. Micronics were so terrible at Famicom programming, and yet so many of the ports they were contracted for were hits. But in hindsight, and now knowing the legacy of Toaplan, I could probably appreciate this much more.
Dude please, enough with the Truxton / Vectrex / El Camino jokes. If you're never going to change the format of your reviews, at least try to make some new jokes. I'm a long time follower of your channel, but please try to inject some oxigen into it.
stonerdemon As fucked up as that sounds I concur just a bit lol. At least he doesn't try to put cartridges in cd based systems anymore, that joke got old years ago 😂. The channel hasn't added subs in quite awhile. Don't get me wrong though I'll come back to his channel to watch every so often, I still like the channel.
L0L247 I like it too, but it saddens me that this guy gets less and less views with each new video. He's a pioneer, and honestly, I don't want this channel to disappear.
you are an idiot. some constructive criticism is not only valuable, the only shame is that it should not be necessary. I also would not mind less begging. Top guns don't beg.
I can understand why he alway's makes jokes about truxton & the vectrex because he is a huge fan of it,but to me tiger heli looks & sounds boring,it makes me realize how far we have come in the nes day's in terms of graphics & sound and how boring most nes games were in terms of graphics & sound in the mid-80's .
This was one of my first NES games as a kid. To this day it still makes me want to throw the controller every once in awhile.
Tiger Heli. Oh man this game and Magmax drove me INSANE! I got em for Christmas and every game I had played up till that point had an ending, so I resolved one weekend to beat these freaking games! I know, I wasted mad hours.
Tiger Heli was my joint when I was like 6. It was probably the 4th game my family ever bought.
It was our first besides the pack-in SMB/Duck Hunt cart. It was the only game I owned for about a year lol.
I remember spending my first pay check working at a pizza place when I turned 16 to buy it for my brother for a Christmas gift the year he got his NES, that music will always sound like Christmas 88 to me.
fuck yeah me too... 2nd game ever bought for me
It was my first game I played on my older sisters NES …. The amount of rage it brought me as a 5 year old 🤣 the theme is my ringtone
It's a predecessor, not a prequel. A prequel is released after, but is set before.
First played Tiger Heli when I was on leave in Osan, South Korea. I remember being amazed at how detailed the graphics were compared to other games at the time. It's been a favorite classic game ever since. Thanks for the review.

Still the only channel I will always stay for every single patreon name at the end. Well done sir! Keep up the turbo volcanoing!
I had this game when I was like 4 or 5. I completely forgot about it till now. Thank you
Acclaim had good games for the nes. Wizards and Warriors, Double Dragon games, and Star Voyager
Go into the NT settings and turn on extra sprites if you want to fix the flickering issue
I've been looking for one with the box and the poster that came with it just because I love the cover artwork.
thx for reviewing this game. had this on nes and i use to go to the bodega to play this after school
Second game for the NES I ever got when I was like 6. My grandparents took me to Sears to get SMB2 but they were sold out. This is what I picked out instead because the box looked cool. Wasn't disappointed. Played it for weeks. Simple game, but pretty fun.

Tiger Heli was my favorite NES game when I was 8 years old in 2009 on my childhood at Elementary School
This and Contra were my two favorite nintendo games in the eighties!
do more sega saturn reviews
Super fun
I have this game on a bootleg GBA cartridge that has 150 nes games which I got from Los Angeles. It's fun
Mark can we get sum pc engine cd reviews?
I thought Steel Empire for the Genesis was the best shooter published by Acclaim (well "Flying Edge" by that was just another brand name to get around Nintendo's third-party exclusivity thing).
I got this at a yard sale when I was like 12 or 13. Pretty good game.
Mark, IIRC there's an option in the NT console menu to make it support more simultaneous sprites, thus reducing the flicker. From 8 to 16 sprites I believe.
one of my favorite nes games!!
Does this game have an end? If I remember correctly the levels design started repeating itself after a while. Can someone confirm that?
31leoceara I’m almost positive you are correct
I put some time into this one back in 86'
Another Great review of such a under rated Gem, the pc-engine version is awesome.
I had this game as a child and it is pretty much the reason why I don't like 2D shooter games. Blowing up houses and parked cars was pretty cool though.
Hey Mark! I got this game!
FINALLY! Someone reviewed it.
Never judge a game by it's publisher... Always look at the developer, as well as the original developing company (with ports).
Tiger Heli was developed by Toaplan ,which explains a lot.
The developer was Toaplan; it was *published* by Taito.
haha... Right!... i knew that.
I was listening to Mark say Taito while typing.
Anyway, thanks for bringing it to my attention.... fixed.
No problem! :)
This was one of my all time favorite game growing up.
The boxart looks cool. Only the Acclaim logo sucks... LOL
Fire Mustang for Mega Drive is probably my favorite animal-based shooter title. Though a rather unknown game, seems to still be pricey (it has the Taito logo on it, that has to be why :P ). Odd, a Japanese-exclusive WW2 side-scroller shooter.
The best music. The Black Tiger-Helia Murder.
It looks fine...
o i still have this game
Awesome game tiger heli ❤😊
Would definitely buy 'Truxton vs Magmax: Extreme Volleyball Challenge' for the 32X
Nes version was very close to the original It´s one of my favorite Nes arcade conversions.
Tiger Heli is the best game published by Acclaim in the same universe Double Dragon II for NES exists?
hey Mark on the genesis review of twin cobra you mention that twin cobra is your favorite game from that publisher....even better than truxton..
loved this game :D
This game felt more like Atari than Nintendo. I guess its cuz the graphics are so plain and it feels like the game goes on forever like many Atari games didn't have any endings. great game
Hey Mark! I went to a local store and tried to convince the manager that Power Strike featured helicopters, but he stil wants 80 bucks for it... Another strategy?!
So there's not a actual ending to the game?
came for the helicopter, stayed for the vehicle discrimination.
Video games and beer life doesn't get any better
next review Nuclear Strike for the ps1
Playing old games on crt tvs are so much better.
You know it!!!!
Tiger Heli is pretty cool, but it's no Blue Thunder.
I think they are both dolled up versions of the French Gazelle light attack copter, but Tiger Helli was never turned into a TV show with Dana Carvey.
When ur 8, playing on a friends NES since ur parents wont by one, it was the best heli game ever...played the Top Gun game but that was super hard to figure out...especially after playing nothing but mario, mega man, and a little batman
Remember getting this years ago from thrift store, easily worth the $3 paid for it!
An awesome game!
How come he never review SNES games?
He's been reviewing for like 20 years. He's done more than a few SNES reviews in that time, but he's into older games. At his age "classic games" means something a bit different than it does to people your age.
he' s a Sega genesis guy in his own world with obsession for the game truxton
E.D.F !!!!!
ThumbdownMan he reviewed speed racer on snes
He's been reviewing games for like 15 or more years. Chances are high he's reviewed everything once already. XD
I remember a bunch of snes games about 3 or 4 years ago...
Truxton jokes were amusing...once upon a time
Rick Harding Truxton jokes are funny ALL the time!
No, they arn't lol.
H4PPYPSYCHO Lord Karnage says otherwise.
Who cares he's just as lame.
H4PPYPSYCHO If you dislike these videos, why are you here commenting?
This was one of my favorite NES games - played the hell(i) out of it. Even the music was good for an 8-bit game.
Flickering bullets when there's too much stuff on screen is a big problem
I can't get into this game. Tried a few times, it's probably the lack of a kickin soundtrack and the slow movement. Oh well, to each their own
I love helicopter rides :^)
o shit, played the shit out of this as a kid
this is such a dope game for the nes, definitely an underrated shooter on the system
Sounds like a british tiger handheld game.
You definitely are not supposed to be saving the people... you are supposed to kill everything that moves. Kind of dark actually but in fact, in the first stage you get a 5,000 point bonus for repeatedly shooting the hospital until it blows up.
War is hell.
I played this game way too much as a kid
I hated this game as a kid. I found it very difficult and bland. I think I may have even returned this one or sold it within days. I may have to check it out again some day.
At the time this game just looked like junk to me. Micronics were so terrible at Famicom programming, and yet so many of the ports they were contracted for were hits. But in hindsight, and now knowing the legacy of Toaplan, I could probably appreciate this much more.
Too much blinking/slowdown in this one, as I recall.
Tiger-Heli is originally from Toaplan but this is a mediocre Micronics port. It's decent enough though.
"Best Akklaim game ever"? Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 on consoles?
wow, outside of Mario, Kung Fu, Zelda, I made a lot of bad NES purchases.
I prefer these simple endings over boss battles. Just a tally and an inventory check and level up. It's a gratifying transition.
Dude please, enough with the Truxton / Vectrex / El Camino jokes. If you're never going to change the format of your reviews, at least try to make some new jokes. I'm a long time follower of your channel, but please try to inject some oxigen into it.

only 3 dislikes so I guess it's not a popular opinion.
L0L247 I like it too, but it saddens me that this guy gets less and less views with each new video. He's a pioneer, and honestly, I don't want this channel to disappear.
Um, it won't. Patreon has a thriving CGR community. CGR isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
you are an idiot. some constructive criticism is not only valuable, the only shame is that it should not be necessary. I also would not mind less begging. Top guns don't beg.
This game cost me like $4.
Second
I can understand why he alway's makes jokes about truxton & the vectrex because he is a huge fan of it,but to me tiger heli looks & sounds boring,it makes me realize how far we have come in the nes day's in terms of graphics & sound and how boring most nes games were in terms of graphics & sound in the mid-80's .
Never even heard of this game but it seems like a rip off of 1941 which I loved
