The jack plane got it's name because it was a jack of all trades used in a workshop as a small bench plane or on a building site , the fore plane is the smallest of the larger bench plane's for those who found the No7 and No8 too heavy.

dont know much about miller falls as i only own type 1 records from 1931-1939 era,but as i see the frog on that miller is the solid flat type i can instantly tell it will be a quality plane.
+russell lowe That made me laugh out loud. And sometimes I were a pistol. I live in a swamp. Two of my daughters have been snake bit mowing the grass. We have been known to have a panther and coyotes on the property. My chickens and rabbits need protecting..... Cheers
that life style sounds so great.here in the uk we cant carry anything over 3". that doesnt stop me owning larger tho,i have passed many hours when stress just sharpening my knives,great stress reliever i find
A Stanley no6 or what people call the foreplane may have a flat iron with no camber but traditional wood bodied foreplanes have a large camber.

Stanley moved the keyhole in the iron to the bottom when they introduced the lateral adjustment lever.
