Excellent point on proper warm up. I'm guilty of ceremoniously dinking with poor form for a few minutes before starting the first game. I hadn't really thought about that. I should use this opportunity to calibrate my posture and coordination, not necessarily my touch.
Absolutely! Once properly physically warmed up as described, I like to warmup with my partner hitting balls from the kitchen line with myself stuck in mid court trying to play defense only. Then warming up dinks after a bit of this drill. This seems to correct the habit of “lazy dinking” until the march starts 🤣
@@Pickleball_Health This I like to see. I play tennis with western grip and doesn't translate well for pickle...it's frustrating. Good info in this video.
@@georgebarbero4743 so true! I use a western in tennis too and that was one of the hardest things for me to wrap my brain around when adding in pickleball as well! 🤣
You can do it! 💪 just take 1-2 of the tips and focus on those the next time you play. Then when confident with those add the another few and rock and roll!
Thanks J! I use the Movo WMX Duo wirelessly attached to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I do a few things in premiere post shoot to clean it up but it comes through very clean as is I definitely recommend it. Iam beginner in pickleball from tennis background..I liked your video but one thing is so,confusing was those blue & red cones placements...Are they placed for th balls coming to you or do we have to imagine those cones on opposite kitchen where we need to place the ball by dinking?? Please let me know thanks!!
Hi Dustin, your videos are great and I've subscribed. I like how you go into great levels of detail including mechanics, physiology and the mental approach. As someone coming from a competitive level in other sports, your teaching approach resonates well. That clip of you in your day job with the racket is hilarious. Glad you're having fun with this. Cheers!
Thank you so much Alex that means the world to hear I appreciate you taking the time to share that! Working on plenty more to release soon and extra motivated to do so with support like yours! 🤘
I'd like to hear if you recommend the grip you use that extends the index finger onto the paddle face rather than wrapping it around. How does that affect your backhand? What percentage of top players also use this grip? Mark
Thanks for the great question Mark! I don’t recommend putting a finger on the actual paddle face, because I do not recommend holding the paddle that high (loses some of the leverage built into the paddle for added power). BUT if coming from table tennis and that’s significantly more comfortable then I would say go for it as being comfortable with what you know and love will play better than making a small changes. 💪 I hold the paddle at the end but I have experimented with the finger along the handle. I actually liked it a lot but felt it hindered my mobility during bigger drives so I ultimately don’t use it but I did for a while and liked it for the control at the kitchen especially on backhand dinks. 👍
Haha I caught that after uploading too 🤣 It’s my new favorite phrase! I’m sure something like it will happen again so stay tuned for more fun new spellings 🤣
Accurate, but it’s hard to beat colloquialisms! Like in tennis, players refer to the “backhand side” or “forehand side” instead of “deuce court” or “ad court”. I’m new to pb from tennis and I would have found the “kitchen” rules much easier to learn if they had called it the “no volley zone”! One can step into the kitchen or camp out there as long as they let the ball bounce before hitting it!
Great, understandable, helpful communication!👍🏻🙌🏻👏🏻
Thanks a bunch Steve I’m glad this helped! 😄
great video. first time Ive heard someone suggest a proper warmup!
Thank you! Warmup is so huge! Not only does it help prevent injuries but it 100% percent helps us play better right away! 🤘
Great job with this Dustin. This is the first of your videos I've seen and I was impressed.
Thank you Ken, I really appreciate that! Welcome! 😄

Great question Avinash. Those cones represent where on the other side of the net you want to hit your dinks! 😄
@@Pickleball_Health Thanks a ton...now it makes sense👍
I'm gonna use this for my Dink n Drink meetings!

Great videos! Can you please do one on tournament day? E.g. what to eat and drink, recovery, exercises, mindset etc.
Thank you Esther! You got it, I’ll get to work on that for you! 😄 great suggestion thanks!
These tips are amazing! I busted out laughing when you said "you wouldn't flick a ball at a child's face"
🤣
Haha very happy to hear you got a great laugh from that! 😂 Definitely better than if I said I would right?! 🤣
Can’t wait to get my dink on! 🤣
Awesome! Gettin' dinky with it!
High marks for the Les Paul on the paddle!
Hahaha thank you Greg! Half the time I’m playing air guitar in between points anyways so I needed to make sure it was a quality axe! 🤣🤘

Doing too much is an issue for me coming from Tennis ! Thanks...
Charles, isn’t that crazy that one of the hardest things to do is to do LESS! 😂 especially with us coming from tennis too!
Your dictation reminds me of the guy from the TV show “mysteries of the museum“ 😆
Haha I’ve never seen it but I’ll have to look up a clip? That a good thing? 🤣
@@Pickleball_Health absolutely!
👍👍
Thank you Debbie!
Pro tennis players like Sam Querrey are going to make the use of dinks obsolete. GO TEAM QUERREY in 2023.
😂🤘
We’re just going to ignore the guitar? 😛
Haha never ignore the guitar! 🤣 🤘
What about grip pressure? Thats why ppl can't dink soft.
Great addition April! There’s a sequel in the works including grip pressure and others as well! Thanks for your tip! 😄

Sorry but the guitar paddle is very distracting.
It won’t be the only paddle used for these videos but thank you for your feedback Roger
Its the No Volley Zone, not a kitchen!
Haha true! It’s funny that we also call it a Kitchen! I don’t see any food! 😂 🍔
