  • Episode 208: Elevator Action(s) ! In this video, I play "Elevator Action" and then play the sequel, "Elevator Action Returns" in order to showcase some differing game elements. Which one is better ?

There was an era where many arcade action games reminded me of Rolling Thunder. I think of Elevator Action Returns as the tail end of that era, if not the last game which felt similar.

Yea there definitely quite a few of a similar playstyle. One that comes to mind from the later 80's is Sega's "ESWAT" - which was well played in my part of the world. I don't play ESWAT much these days (and although "fun") is not (IMO) a very deep game. I think the concept is super cool, and the player upgrades are a unique play mechanic, but the game overall leaves something to be desired... perhaps I'm reading too much into it ! LOL!

@@arcadesunday4592 Yeah, I think it has some similarities. They are usually games which involved moving left and right, shooting enemies, and switch planes (geometrically speaking) by moving into the background temporarily or jumping up to a platform above. They also allow ducking usually. The movement is usually very stiff or "precise" with no extra frames of sliding or embellishment. Another which comes to mind is Konami's Sunset Riders.

@WhatsOnMyShelf Sunset Riders for sure! I always admire that particular Konami classic for its imense level of graphical detail, orignal soundtrack, solid gameplay and an awesome "western" / cowboy theme.. The next (older game) which comes to mind is (IMO) one of the most flawlessly executed platformers (by Sega) - Shinobi... Now that is a well polished platformer!
