- A representative from a species in the Delta quadrant, seeks help from the mighty and evil Captain Janeway of the warship Voyager, to conquer another species. But the evil Captain and crew of Voyager, are not gonna waste time on being diplomatic, when biogenic weapons are much faster and much more affective.

Shje was great as evil Janeway. Far better than Sisko was in the Mirror universe. Archer was quite enjoyable though he did ham it up a little.
Maybe the Voyager is that way in the other dimension. Remember in DS9 there was this "mirror" dimension where the Cardassians are the ones allied with the Bajorans and Starfleet was the enemy?

They DID victimize the Borg, were racist against Species 8472, they changed entire Timelines and therefore wiped out Generations just because they couldnt comprehend the loss of some dozen people, and so on and so on.
And Starfleet made Janeway Captain - laughable.

Sisko destroyed like 3 planets looking for Eddington. He also lied to get Romulans involved in the war, don't get me wrong it's a decent episode but it is a extremely dystopian concept. Sisko did clearly the wrong thing because of ego, numerous times .
including that he didn't use a contraction, when he could've said, "...it's ready now"

What I like is how that premise, as fun as it is, is really only half the episode. The rest deals with the Doctor encountering how propaganda can tweak events to make either side look like the evil ones and stifle the truth.

I don't think the Terran Empire was overthrown until some time in the DS9 era. So if Voyager left before the uprising occurred, the timing could work.

Voyager doesn't exist in the mirror universe. DS9 established pre-VOY that mirror Spock became Emperor and made so huge military reforms that the entire Terran Empire had been conquered and enslaved by the Klingons and Cardassians. In fact, Tuvok even appeared as one of the slaves.

Tom V , It's interesting, but that's exactly my recollection of how B'Elanna pronounced his name in the first few episodes of the series, though, I don't believe, ever to be heard again. I may need to watch those over again, to be sure I'm not just projecting that impression.

One of the best Voyager episodes, not merely because Evil Janeway is hawt AF, but also because of the lessons it teaches about historical narratives.
one of the worst episodes due to the tell not show method of the meaning of the events. showing the testimony would have been a good way of improving this episode by a large margin, all you'd have to do is curb some of the evil scenes to make room for the pivotal point. or cut some of the dialog between the doctor and the historian short given that a good chunk of it doesn't advance the plot. you could have just had it as a recording in the second future scene so that it took less than a minute, though ultimately this is the point of the episode so it should take a bit more time.

Some of the "evil" scenes are what makes the video fun. If you're blind to that fact. Read some of the comments. Loads of them are how "evil" janeway is fantastic. You're wrong in every sense and likely responsible for nine eleven two thousand one
@@MrMedukneusha I agree that the evil scenes are fun, but I feel like their over-the-top nature makes it fairly obvious that they're a misconception at best, a propagandist caricature at worse. And sure, the episode is more about the Doctor trying to set things straight, but still...
It would've been much more engaging a story if they had toned it down the evil nonsense a bit. If it had been a retelling of a scenario where Voyager came to the system in question, facing some sort of mortal peril, and begrudgingly agreed to help the Vaskans in their war, and they later used Voyager as a weapon of mass destruction, or something along those lines, that would've been more engaging, because it's not completely absurd. You know what they say: The best lies are the ones that incorporate as much truth as is possible.

This is what the U.S.S. Voyager of the alternate universe would have been like had the Terran Empire survived.
We know that in Star Trek there are multiple quantum universes. Some are slightly different to the prime universe and others a fair bit different. I think its fair to think that there are universes like the Mirror universe and only slightly different. In some universes the Terran Empire never fell, and in those where ISS Voyager were stranded in the Delta Quadrant, it would have been very much like this.
From what I've seen, the Terran Empire has reunified and set itself as head of the table once again.

For those who are wondering, this is not a mirror episode for the mirror universe. In this episode, many-many years have passed since Voyager passed through this system. Over the history, details about Voyager's visit were badly misinterprated and Voyager was given a reputation as seen in the video. Thankfully during the period, voyager's backup computer core was stolen, and contained a backup file for the EMH. He set the records straight.
Also a very depressing episode. At the end, after setting the record straight, he continues the journey home....all alone...in a shuttle...trying to follow the footsteps of his long since dead companions.

Ah yes, I remember this episode. If I remember right ,there was a curator at the museum who pleaded with the doctor to leave in order to save him. The doctor refused, insisting he remain to correct the incorrectly recorded history.
The brilliant part is where we learn this entire episode was actually being told as an in-museum exhibit.

Which is interesting, given that other episodes indicated that the Doctor's program had no backup. Otherwise, Paris and Kim would've used it in "Message in a Bottle."
This episode was fantastic, and I hear a favorite among the cast. They finally got to throw away the Boy and Girl Scout badges and be the bullies for once. In line with Enterprise's "A Mirror Darkly," it would be awesome if they made a mini-series, or even a full series of "Dark Trek."

The Kazon would've been wrecked by Voyager's antics as they would've made an alliance with the Trabe to throw them into disarray with traps and then give the Trabe all sorts of Fed tech to help the Trabe crush the Kazon and regain their former power to get back at the Kazon for destroying the Caretaker's Array fighting Voyager for control of it.
Tim Russ did a fine job as director here, I believe the only such assignment he got in the series.

To those who say that something is wrong with this episode. Yes this is a bit mismatched one, but then again this is propaganda taken from a museum 700 years after Voyager visited that planet. This in it's turn was taken from a holographic representation from when the vascans and the kyrians where united as a whole another 5-6 centuries later, if not more.
You can tell that the cast had fun with this episode.
The thing I always appreciated about this episode was how everything looked familiar at first, then it quickly became clear that it was all just a little bit off. It was noticeable even down to the spoken dialogue.

Mulgrew delivered this one on another level. Absolutely cold-hearted and without hesitation.
Even if someone doesn't particulary like the story/episode they should at least be able to respect the performance she gave, it's exactly the opposite of her normal Janeway. I've always been impressed with the way Mulgrew can deliver lines, changing inflections and tone, i personally have such a monotone voice, i find it incredibly difficult but she has a real talent there.

This is one of my favorite episodes of Voyager! I love the misdirection when you find out that this was some kind of historic simulation based off of some misinformation by the alien culture. You find out the doctor is reactivated many centuries in the future on the Homeworld of that alien culture and he tries to correct how the story was told and I love, absolutely love how the episode ends.
I love Janeway's nonchalant demeanor as she is obliterating the masses 😳😍
She should have released her cobalt tarantula army.

A Federation version of this vs the Dominion would probably had been star trek's ultimate version of evil vs evil.
The Dominion would have lost long before they had a chance to evolve due to Mirror universe Voyager using the time distortion phase canon on them that Voyager got from the Captain of that ship in the Year of Hell. Janeway took his offer of him helping them return to the Alfa quadrant, but not before Tom Paris stole the ships schematics.
this is a very good episode, no only it show us the closes we have to a mirror voyager, but also it shows how history can be changed and lied very easily, showing the enemy as something 4 times worst than what it really is, something we humans know how to do very well.
Re-watching Voyager, haven't seen it in nearly decade and at the end of Season 4 right now. Decided to hop on TH-cam to see what other people say about this episode.
Season 4 had some amazing episodes, in-fact probably some of the best in all of Star Trek. Not going to lie, this episode actually made me emotional. This episode and the 2-part Year of Hell are my favorite so far.
Year of Hell was one of my favorites. Voyager in general is underrated.

S3E3 “The Chute” was such an emotionally charged episode for me. I nearly cry every time I watch it. Paris & Kim were my favorite characters & Kim practically beating the crap outta Paris after he caught him dismantling the pipe was a little much for me. 🥺

It really tickles me to hear Janeway talk like this knowing what Starfleet stans for but she does it so well.
One of my favorite episodes.
Touches on a lot of interesting concepts, including judging people in the past by modern standards.
And it's nice to see episodes where Janeway's truly arrogant self-absorbed nature is revealed, instead of hidden behind uniforms and trite banter.
If only she'd been more of a starfleet captain, like the noble captain of the Exodus! *eyeroll*

This was an EXCELLENT episode.

The episode is titled "Living Witness" and is set 700 years after the time of Voyager.
I can't help wondering how losing the backup module affected the Doctor Hologram, and how the events of this episode fits into the timeline of the series.

All these years later I still remember watching this sequence for the first time. I was hopping excited, thinking that Voyager was about the get its first mirror universe episode, and thinking how awesomely bad-ass Janeway was.
I was disappointed it wasn't mirror universe but I consider it virtually akin to one anyway, not least because they never actually made one in the show's seven years :(

It's crazy what a pair of black gloves can do to make a character more intimidating.
To be fair. Her performance would work without the gloves but yes they do add a nice look.
When this first aired I was so sure we were going to get a Mirror Universe episode. This one was just as good.

A whole series like this would not work. The appeal of this or mirror universe episodes is watching twisted versions of the main characters. But the novelty wears off quickly and all you have left after that is watching some douchebags do douchebag things to people who do not deserve it.
