The 17th century was mainly about Hussars, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was at war with Sweden. The conflict takes place over Livonia, but it is a broader battle over the Baltic ports and the Baltic Sea itself. Hussar battles took place also in the north, and today I am presenting you the Battle of the White Stone in 1604 in the borderlands of today's Estonia.
The battle around Paide is a forgotten battle and little mentioned in the history of the Hussars. And it was there that our great armed formation once again showed its skill and contributed significantly to defeating the Swedes and stopping their invasion. Perhaps this would not have happened if it were not for their main commander at that time: Jan Karol Chodkiewicz. This strategic victory turned out to be a prelude to one of the greatest triumphs of the Hussars in history, the Battle of Kircholm, which came soon.
The film will present you some of the biographies of both great commanders standing opposite each other at that time, and especially the tragic fate of the governor of Finland. As a result of being involved in the Vasa family's rivalry, this man became their victim and their biggest loser. I will also describe the course of the battle, as is my custom.
